I’be never been a great sleeper but it’s just ridiculous now. I have been awake since 4.45am 😭

What have you tried? Are you on HRT?

HermioneGrangersHair · 12/11/2025 00:01

HRT if you can or want to try it. This really helped my sleepless nights and in just a few days.

RandomMess · 12/11/2025 00:13

On HRT, take magnesium, zinc and melatonin.

I am always tired and becoming a carb addict.

I take two different Progesterone tablets just before bed. One helps me get to sleep and the other helps keeps me asleep.

RandomMess · 12/11/2025 00:19

I can only take progesterone every 3rd month as I don’t tolerate it well and don’t sleep any better when on it.

Talk to your Gp. I’m the same as you and I occasionally get a prescription for Zolpidem. It will absolutely knock you out and hopefully taking it for a short course will reset your sleep pattern xx

OSTMusTisNT · 12/11/2025 00:24

I was on a viscous cycle of no sleep at night and drinking ridiculous amounts of coffee during the day (10+ cups before lunch) just to get me through work.

I cut out coffee after 9am and listen to boring nonfiction audio books in bed instead of scrolling, concentrating on listening to it until I fall asleep. I can recommend Rick Astleys biography 😳.

Failing that, I get up and make a nest on the sofa so I'm not disturbing DH all night (much prefer sofa to the spare room, no idea why).

RandomMess · 12/11/2025 00:26

I drink decaff, listen to dull podcasts. Tried Zopiclone several times I tend to sleep 6 hours on it but once I stop it’s back to usual.

I sleep in my own room, can’t potter around else all the pets want to get up too!

I find melatonin can make me drag myself around the next day if I take it more than very occasionally.

Apileofballyhoo · 12/11/2025 00:49

Magnesium bisglycinate? Are you taking a fairly high amount? The one I mostly buy recommends 240mg.

I have a hard time with progesterone so I'm on a non body identical progestin. Which isn't that much better but Utrogestan used to keep me awake all night. A pump of oestrogen gel is often the only thing that works for me but I'm not prescribed to use this every night. I have found night time Kalms helpful in the past but not everyone gets on with valerian and i sometimes feel dopey in the morning. DH swears by Melissa Dreams which have Lemon Balm, b vitamins, magnesium and L-theanine (sp?) which I've seen mentioned as a supplement you can get by itself for sleep in a few menopause groups I'm in. There's also Revive Sleep fairly recently launched in Ireland, I think that's the one I saw with cherry in it which I had also seen in meno groups. The Better You sleep lotion is good. GP offered to prescribe something for sleep but meno specialist upped my oestrogen and that helps me with sleep more than anything.

I don't have caffeine after about 11 AM unless I'm feeling particularly rebellious. Any time after lunch and I'll be awake till 4am.

RandomMess · 12/11/2025 07:14

@Apileofballyhoo yep that’s the one 1040mg that provides 208mg Take B12, 3 pumps of oestrogen gel.

That was 20mg melatonin I took last night.

Was awake until after 1am woke at 4.45am then snatched another 20-30mins from 6.30.

I miss the days of Vit D deficiency or when I had young DC when I could sleep.

You might need a higher dose of oestrogen to relieve this menopause symptom.

It does usually/often. Without I’ll be awake for over an hour or so trying to sleep every night. I have tried that too.

Stop all supplements. They are piling on the pressure to sleep. It's all about acceptance. You can sleep. It's anxiety. Address that first. The sleep coach, Daniel Erichsen is amazing. Free info on you tube.

RandomMess · 12/11/2025 07:43

I sleep in the pitch black. Reading doesn’t work it stimulates me plus I wear glasses so I have to take them off, lie down and then “ping” wide awake.

When I was in hospital I hadn’t slept since 6am Friday so when I still hadn’t slept by midnight on the Saturday they have me Zopiclone. Gave me 6 hours sleep. When I was supposedly exhausted, needed to sleep lots etc.

Mollydoggerson · 12/11/2025 07:44

Are you getting enough exercise during the day?
