What kind of HRT are you taking?

Following on from an other thread, I just wanted to find out which HRT everyone has been prescribed? Has it helped at all?
I do not live in the UK and they only prescribe the Estradol patch here. I’m not taking anything at the moment but I have all the horrid symptoms, especially the feeling of detachment from everything, including my family. It’s awful.

Oral Estradiol, micronised progesterone and compounded testosterone, DHEA and extra progesterone lozenges.
I also take low dose T3 and T4, high dose Vitamin D, Omega 3. It took 3 years of optimising to get it right.
This through a private women's health and functional medicine specialist.

Elleste duo tablets

DisplayPurposesOnly · 07/09/2025 09:30

Ellestte Solo (tablet) as I have a mirena coil.

doitwithlove · 07/09/2025 09:35

Estradol patch work perfectly for me, I have had numerous gels, tablets before going onto the patches.

BubbleBB · 07/09/2025 09:47

Patches here too. I was worried about introducing hormones as I used to feel awful on the pill, depo, etc but no downsides at all, I just feel less irritable and my period flooding has improved. I was so scared to start in case it just made things worse and I wasn’t sure I could take that. But I’m so glad I made the leap.

TheAutumnalCrow · 07/09/2025 09:59

I am on oestrogen only as I’m post-hysterectomy (a BSO TH).

I now use Sandrena gel sachets as my local independent pharmacy can always get hold of it. (Also recommended by my GP pharmacy team re: availability.) I’m afraid a lot of chain pharmacies really seem to struggle with supplies of everything.

My current dose is 1.5 mg daily. I am now 60+ and have no current plans to change this because I’m very conscious of osteoporosis risk in my family.

I also am prescribed one tube of Estriol cream per month.

Hope that helps on your quest! Flowers

Combined patches - Estradiol and norethisterone. Estradiol pessary 10mcg (twice weekly).
It's the only HRT I can tolerate unfortunately, due to progrstogen intolerance.

Icecreamhelps · 07/09/2025 10:28

Everol 75mg and 100mg utrogeston continuous.

Henry8thHoover · 07/09/2025 11:46

I’m in Cyprus and started these about a month ago. Change patch every 72 hours. One a day for the tablet.

Thanks everyone.
My only option here is the patch which I’m fine with but just wanted to find out how everyone else was getting on with other types.
Thanks again.

Mirena coil for the progesterone and Oestrogel gel for the oestrogen. It works really well for me.

mrsnjw · 07/09/2025 15:37

Coil and gel

WhereAreWeNow · 07/09/2025 15:39

Mirena coil + estrogen patch. Works for me.

Do you still have your uterus?

You need progesterone as well as oestrogen if you do to protect the lining of your uterus.

This is what I've been advised by two gynaes and my GP ( who specialises in women's health).

Thanks @Thebluespoon
I do have my uterus and I suffer from adenomyosis, irregular heavy periods and a lot of other peri symptoms.
The gyno only prescribed the patch for me and had no idea about the progesterone! Thank you so much for the info. I will give her a call and ask her 🙂

Gosh that’s worrying - the progesterone protects the lining of the womb so really important. I can’t believe a doctor wouldn’t know that!

I have an Estradot patch, progesterone tablet and testosterone cream.

Passthecake30 · 07/09/2025 16:14

evorel patch (oestrogen only) and ultrogestan, it’s going really well.

I started on the gel but found my skin got very dry and very itchy.

EveryDayisFriday · 07/09/2025 16:17

Evorel Conti 50 patches, they work brilliantly for the symptoms I had.

I'm about to switch to Femoston daily pills as I find the patches irritating and water pools in them because I swim 3 times a week.

EveryDayisFriday · 07/09/2025 16:18

I do also have the Implant to try and erase my periods.

Newmum738 · 07/09/2025 16:18

Oestrogel and testosterone. Magnesium supplements which are life changing.

WhereAreWeNow · 07/09/2025 16:33

@FartNRoses it might be worth looking at getting the Mirena coil. I believe it's good for adenomyosis and it really sorts out heavy periods. It would provide the progesterone part of your HRT which you need if you're taking estrogen.

FartNRoses · 07/09/2025 16:38

Thank you all so much. I will ask her all that has been mentioned. For ref, I’m in a European country in the Mediterranean so not really behind on knowledge and gynaecological issues. I’m so glad I asked 😍

Are your patches definitely estrogen only?

There are no ‘conti’ or ‘sequi’ types or any with other ingredients like another hormone in any of them?

What instructions have you been given regarding how to use them?

3678194b · 07/09/2025 19:01

Oestrogen patches and progestogen. I've stopped them though, I found the progestogen was given me horrible bladder symptoms of urgency and not being able to empty the bladder. It was on the list of side effects.

So may have to change or re visit in the future.

Brendathebear · 07/09/2025 19:06

Had patches originally, which worked brilliantly but was advised by GP to have a merina and cyclical progesterone. I had horrible complications with the merina so that was taken out after a year.

Now on oestrogen gel daily and cyclical progesterone x2 per day

However, ive now been period for a year so at next review GP stated he would change the regime to daily progesterone.

Its ok now after the merina car crash. Tbh, although ok now, I did actually find the patches the best.
