Just that really. Interested to know when it’s most common to start.

The weight all went straight to my tummy and would not budge even with diet and exercise. I have diabetes in my family plus Asian genes, so need to keep my waist to height ratio low.

I also don't have much anxiety so going to try to see how I do without it for a bit.

If I feel terrible I will go back on it.

Ah I see, thanks for replying!

Losingmymind85 · 30/04/2025 10:21

38-just unlucky with premature menopause. It-along with coil and additional progesterone, have given me my life back.

BuntyBeaufort · 30/04/2025 12:38

55, after a comparatively late menopause, judging by other replies.
I had minimal physical symptoms but became very depressed, to the point of self-harm, and anxious.
I tried coming off it a few years later but symptoms reoccurred.
GP refused to let me continue, but I found a reputable on-line pharmacy and am still on it at 70+, and intend to stay on it as long as possible.

Chocguzel · 30/04/2025 13:28

Really interesting thanks. I’m 47 and have v regular periods and ovulation pains so not obviously menopausal, no hot flushes, no weight gain, but I’m so anxious. I want to persuade the doc to let me give it a go.

I’m picking my first HRT prescription up later today! 49.

thecrispfiend · 30/04/2025 13:54

41 - had been having symptoms since age 38. I’m 43 now and it’s made a huge difference to quality of sleep and anxiety

LydiaBucket · 30/04/2025 13:57

44!, life changing!, the anxiety is pretty much gone and I’m a happier person

tobee · 30/04/2025 14:47

Ooh this an interesting question!

I'm 57 and had a hysterectomy (conserving ovaries) over 10 years ago now. I've just recently been wondering should I get hrt? Am I too old to feel the benefit? There's a lot of arthritis and osteoporosis in the female line of my family.

restbite · 30/04/2025 15:02

39 after hysterectomy

BigDahliaFan · 30/04/2025 15:04

Started on the pill for perimenopausal symptoms about 36...full on HRT about 42. Came off it last year at 55. I have so say it really helped me - much less anxious, slept better.

I was worried about coming off it (had to for medical reasons) but it's been OK so far - touch wood.

DramaAlpaca · 30/04/2025 15:07

Very late - I was 58 and postmenopausal. My goodness, it's been amazing. I've been on it almost three years now and have no intention of coming off it.

BestIsWest · 30/04/2025 15:12

55 and stopped at 61. It did help at the time but I feel better and have lost weight since I stopped.

Ilovelowry · 30/04/2025 17:50
  1. Should Hve been on it at 41/42.

Night sweats started with a vengeance age 42, but I was crying for a fortnight every month from age 39.

I very speedily went from 50mcg to 100mcg patch, added coil after utro made me suicidal. Then testosterone. Use estriol cream daily.

No weight gain. Still have night sweats and anxious but symptoms mostly reduced.

Also had counselling alongside all this to cope.

yeesh · 30/04/2025 18:12

42, I intend to stay on it forever

ForFunGoose · 30/04/2025 18:19

45 but should have gone on it sooner.
There were tricky times because of my own hormones fluctuating but it made things a lot more bearable. 50 now and as my own hormones decrease I’m doing much better.

Cabbagefamily · 30/04/2025 18:22

52 but came off it after a year

notsureyetcertain · 30/04/2025 18:28

I’m 46 I started on it about two months ago after around two years of feeling dreadful. So far my sleep has improved, less night sweats and more energy. But I’ve also had sore boobs and a hair has grown on my chin

After a lifetime of being a totally chilled and rational person I had a meltdown and handed in my notice at a job I loved after a ten year period of being very happy there. Couldn’t cope anymore. Everything felt too much to manage. Went on HRT at 47 then got asked to work in a more stressful environment than I had previously. Took the leap and I’m happier than ever. It changed my life and improved my hair!

I’m just about to start HRT. I I so, so hope it rescues my poor hair.

Echobelly · 30/04/2025 18:35

47, was pleasantly surprised they just gave me the prescription after a phone consultation, given my symptoms weren't terrible but thought I'd give it a go (itchiness, especially ears, a bit tired and slight difficulty focusing, sweaty nights). I have the contraceptive implant which has basically stopped any period symptoms for the last 12 years so I have no idea what my periods are doing now.

Been on it for 5 months. Mostly stopped the itching and definitely not crashing as much with tiredness post lunch so I'd say it's an improvement.

sandgreen · 30/04/2025 23:07

It’s different for everyone obviously, but one thing I have only recently noticed could be related is only a few strands of hair coming out now when I wash it, instead of the noticeable clump I was losing pre-HRT. Fingers crossed for you.

savuni27 · 30/04/2025 23:36

38 but that’s due to having a hysterectomy. However, I was struggling for a couple of years before and think I should’ve started sooner.

AnonMJ · 30/04/2025 23:48

Too late. At 47. Should have started at 37

oviraptor21 · 30/04/2025 23:55

Plan to be on it till death.

Seeyousoonboo · 01/05/2025 06:44

A month shy of my 47th Birthday.

Dustmylemonlies · 01/05/2025 06:53
  1. It was a gamechanger.
