Feels like period pain but no period

My last period was in August. For this past few weeks I've been getting this discomfort daily but intermittent that feels like period pain but no actual period. It's not painful enough for pain killers, just feels like a mild period pain. Is this normal during menopause?

Hi there yes it is. So rest assured. I’ll try keep it brief and simple. First off, You’re not alone it’s very normal. It happens Becuase of the Hormonal changes, ovarian activity, or even pelvic tension can trigger those familiar aches. It’s frustrating, but often normal. Try magnesium, heat therapy, gentle movement just a 5 minute walk outside, and herbal teas to soothe discomfort. If the pain is severe, persistent, or comes with other unusual symptoms or heavy bleeding, don’t ignore it—trust your body and speak to your doctor. You deserve to feel comfortable and heard.

Assuming you haven’t spoken to the dr or started any form of HRT?

Take care and hope you feel a little more assured. X

Nets888 · 06/03/2025 11:48

@Menoglow thank you, that's reassuring to hear. Just one more question, can the feeling of period pain lasts on and off daily? I've been feeling the discomfort everyday for the past few weeks.

No, my other symptoms are mild so I'm not too keen on HRT.

Menoglow · 06/03/2025 11:53

You’re very welcome and absolutely 👍. HRT also protects you from future health issues. But equally understand it’s not for everyone. Take care x

Nets888 · 06/03/2025 14:21

@Menoglow you take care too.

Anyone suffering the same during menopause?

I'm not sure if I'm classed as perimenopause or menopause as my last period was in August so not a full year without period yet.

OP posts:
Menoglow · 06/03/2025 14:38

@Nets888 your classed as menopause when you haven’t had a period for 12 consecutive months. So if it is peri menopause which it sounds like it very well could be your in peri menopause. Which can last up to 14 years. But based on research the average is about 4 years. So your at an ideal phase to take control and hold of it now. So when symptoms get worse you’re very much prepared. Many women wait till it hits and their brains not functioning at its best and they just don’t know where to start, are totally overwhelmed, sleep deprived and suffering mentally. So you’re in a prime position. 🥰 x

Yes, I have the exact same symptoms. Currently in late-peri, and for the past year or so I can occasionally experience intermittent cramping which can go on for a week or longer, isn't related to ovulation, and doesn't result in a period. It isn't a sharp pain, just a dull low ache. My last period was in mid-December. Stupid hormones!

Nets888 · 06/03/2025 18:05

@OnionBudgie exactly the same! I've heard of phantom period pain. Could it be this?

OP posts:
CreationNat1on · 06/03/2025 18:12

Yes, also the same. 46 in April, (can't believe it) went 5 months with no bleed from May to Oct, then 3 consecutive bleeds, nothing since mid December. In early Feb, felt v strong pms symptoms, wiped twice to extremely light pink tinge and nothing else.

Currently, aches, nausea in the morning, tired, hot flushes at night. Feel I m done but I guess I need to wait and see.

OnionBudgie · 06/03/2025 18:49

@Nets888 Could well be! I'm 55 now, it's about time it buggered off completely. 😅

MrsPatrickDempsey · 06/03/2025 19:35

Just checking in with solidarity. I am in bloomin agony feeling like my insides are going to drop out.
Last bleed was Nov 23 but having a bit of spotting. Off to research magnesium.

Nets888 · 06/03/2025 19:58

@MrsPatrickDempsey I take magnesium for better sleep and restless legs.

OP posts:
Menoglow · 06/03/2025 20:06

Hi there @MrsPatrickDempsey also have you tried tonic water for restless legs? Its has quinine in which they give Rx in tablet form for restless legs. But you can just have a small slimline tonic water before bed 7pm or so. It works like a dream. Also Tumeric helps with inflammation which you can get in herbal supplements. I take and absolutely recommend these for so many reasons but they help with restless legs Mucuna pruriens (a natural source of dopamine) may help, as RLS is linked to dopamine imbalance. Tjey give Parkinson patients l-dopa help with tremors. It really works. X

MrsPatrickDempsey · 06/03/2025 20:14

Thanks for the helpful suggestions.

Nets888 · 07/03/2025 18:32

Anyone getting bloated stomach too?

OP posts:
PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 07/03/2025 21:31

Yes, bloating and period like pains. Well, more discomfort than pain. Lyng here with hot water bottle on stomach.

Nets888 · 07/03/2025 21:50

@PunishmentRoundupWithJoon yes more discomfort than pain. Do you get it often?

OP posts:
NeverDropYourMooncup · 07/03/2025 21:54

Make sure you've got heavy duty sanitary protection with you at all times. You can't trust that it won't suddenly change into a full blown period to beat all other periods.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 07/03/2025 21:55

It's actually been almost constant for a while, on and off, but mainly on. It's really annoying. Actually just took a couple of ibuprofen as it was getting on my nerves!

Have been referred for a scan by GP just to check ovaries, but from what I can gather, this is quite common, the low level discomfort. Such fun...

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 07/03/2025 21:57

I'm definitely peri menopausal. Had a period about four weeks ago, but before that I missed two or three, so it's all winding down.

DivorcedMumOfAdults · 07/03/2025 22:01

I think if you have had pelvic pain for a few weeks you should see your doctor .
It may just be normal menopause but there are some things that should be ruled out with a blood test

Nets888 · 07/03/2025 22:04

@PunishmentRoundupWithJoon I haven't spoken to my GP yet so it's reassuring to hear this is common.

OP posts:
ScribblingPixie · 07/03/2025 22:07

OP, I would get a check-up. I had this and thought it was menopause but it turned out to be an ovarian cyst. It's tempting to rationalise things away but I've learned it's safer not to.

Nets888 · 07/03/2025 22:20

@ScribblingPixie what were your symptoms?

OP posts:
ScribblingPixie · 07/03/2025 22:24

Nets888 · 07/03/2025 22:20

@ScribblingPixie what were your symptoms?

Like period pain but milder with some bloating - all on my left side low down. With hindsight, I probably had the cyst for years and the discomfort didn't stop when my periods did.

Are you me? Last period was in August for me too and I keep on getting these phantom period pains but nothing happens.
