Large blood clot - PHOTO WARNING

Hi ladies, WARNING PHOTO INCLUDED

I have a doctor's appointment but it is a little away and I know I will be very anxious in the meantime. The last few periods I have had, I have had small blood clots alongside 3 or 4 "large" ones. This is the one that really made me worry (see photo - sorry for TMI). I can't get it out of my head something is wrong and I know I'm going to be thinking about this until my appointment. Has anyone had this? Apparently we need to be concerned if it is the size of a 10p coin but I'm unsure if it is because of shape so getting checked incase. I should note I'm 31 and have had 2 kids (2 and 5) so although I put this under menopause I doubt this is the case.

That looks very normal to be. I can see that it looks large to you, but it's really not large at all. Clot shapes are random, so that's not a concern. It's always good to get check ups when things change a bit, but it is normal for periods to change as we age. Try not to worry!

Fishling · 15/12/2024 06:40

I'd not consider that large at all, I regularly get way bigger and GP wasn't concerned.

AllThatEverWas · 15/12/2024 06:42

That was very normal for me too. And uh ... Much larger ones too

Chroomy · 15/12/2024 06:44

That's completely normal??

I was expecting something the size of a kiwi the way you described it.

Absolutely no need for a dr

Luddite26 · 15/12/2024 06:50

In my experience that's pretty normal. But if it's happening more frequently talk to your GP about what's wrong.
They may adjust your contraceptive to one that stops you bleeding if you want. But no need for a more urgent appointment. Try not to be anxious even though it can make you feel miserable.

RoseMarigoldViolet · 15/12/2024 07:00

I would think this is normal. I get larger ones than this.

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 15/12/2024 07:02

I really wouldn't worry. That wouldn't even register as a clot to me. I pass some absolute beasts - actual fleshy lumps of uterine lining.

I've also passed a decidual cast (don't necessarily recommend googling) on more than one occassion.

It's good to get checked if there's been a change in your cycle, but I wouldn't find what you've shown to be concerning, personally.

My periods have definitely changed as I've gotten older (38) and the pill makes me pass more decidual casts, for some reason.

Calmhappyandhealthy · 15/12/2024 07:15

I agree with PPs. That's not a large clot. You don't need to worry

cantthinkofausername26 · 15/12/2024 07:23

I think clots are pretty normal, I've had some so big I can feel myself giving birth to to. But I've had biopsy's and scans and all is fine.

crackfoxy · 15/12/2024 08:25

That's not large

JinglingSpringbells · 15/12/2024 08:37

That doesn't look like a clot it looks like the womb lining and absolutely normal. it's not a reason to see a doctor IMO.

meganna · 15/12/2024 09:07

I get clots this size regularly, and much larger to be honest! This wouldn't worry me in the slightest.

MsXmasGGMasterTwat · 15/12/2024 09:10

Another one saying it’s not remotely large. I have clots as big as the palm of my hand at times, multiple big clots.

restie · 15/12/2024 09:19

So scary if you are not used to it.. but like others I routinely have bigger clots, ridiculously large.. which impacts greatly on my iron levels.

JinglingSpringbells · 15/12/2024 09:21

Maybe you're confusing a clot with a piece of womb lining?
Clots aren't a problem. If your blood didn't clot you'd have a far bigger problem.

Lobstercrisps · 15/12/2024 09:25

That was a small one for me before I started HRT. I could feel them slither out of me when I sat down on the loo for a wee.

itsgettingweird · 15/12/2024 09:28

Be reassured that's totally normal.

Before my hysterectomy I'd have blood clots the same size as pouring a jelly pot into my hand. 4 of those in 20 minutes some days.

Even then the GP just said "it's not as much blood as it looks" <helpful Hmm>

Clots are just where the blood is exciting quickly.

itsgettingweird · 15/12/2024 09:29

Exiting it's no way an exciting event 🤦‍♀️

mizu · 15/12/2024 09:33

I'll reassure you too, this is normal.

Before I had my full hysterectomy around 9 years ago, my body was producing clots the size of tomatoes at times. No wonder I was iron deficient.

UpUpUpU · 15/12/2024 09:35

Normal OP. Do not stress at all.

whenemmafallsinlove · 15/12/2024 09:41

That's not big. Totally normal. Many women find things get a lot more clotty after having kids. Partly because pre kids you were maybe on contraception which also reduced bleeding?

I passed a whacking clot a few months ago. So big the fecker washed my coil out with it. That was a mite annoying.

Anonym00se · 15/12/2024 09:41

Believe me, it’s absolutely nothing to worry about. By menopause I was passing clots the size of a clenched fist, sometimes a few times a day. The doctors still didn’t bat an eyelid. I wouldn’t even bother to change my pad for a clot the size of the one in the picture.

Tealpins · 15/12/2024 09:54

Totally totally normal. I get plenty of these. Definitely not a big one.

Highamred73 · 15/12/2024 10:08

When I had the copper coil some years ago that turned my periods into absolute beasts, the stuff that was coming out of me resembled what I can only describe as looking like afterbirth, it was unbelievable. I would say that looks normal to me, nice colour etc, I can understand why you would be concerned it’s human nature to be so. I’m sure you are absolutely fine

SuperBlondie28 · 15/12/2024 10:14

My 24 yr old daughter passes clots when on period. Dr's not concerned. Perfectly normal. She calls them 'blood slugs'! My daughter, not the doctor lol
