The Itching - my god the itching…

WilloTheWispy · 27/01/2024 11:42

So this is a new thing. Itching - mainly all over my torso, like I want to itch my skin off. Sometimes my arms and legs. But mainly my torso. Has anyone else had this, and if so what did you do?
I’m on HRT (Utrogestan & gel).
I’m moisturising.
Help me!!

It's horrible isn't it? :-(

Aveeno shower gel and body lotion. Its expensive but has helped.

timtam23 · 27/01/2024 16:24

I have started using aqueous cream instead of soap (I'm sure I read it as a tip on a thread on here) and the difference was almost immediate. Some of the aqueous creams can be very greasy but the one I have at the moment is quite light and doesn't leave oil slicks everywhere even when I use it in the shower. It's cheap as well, and I haven't needed to use any additional body moisturiser after bathing/showering

JinglingSpringbells · 27/01/2024 17:02

Try some sort of antihistamine tablets, the sort you can buy for insect bites or hayfever.

Flossflower · 27/01/2024 17:29

Oilatum soap bar from Amazon to stop the skin itching

Flossflower · 27/01/2024 17:30

Are you allergic to you moisturiser?

Sletty · 27/01/2024 17:31

Antihistamine tablets help settle mine

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 27/01/2024 18:33

Another for antihistamines. I took one in the morning and one at night and it definitely eased it.

Piggywaspushed · 27/01/2024 18:45

My itching feels like things are crawling over my skin. My skin isn't dry. It's maddening.

FatherJoseFernandez · 27/01/2024 21:33

Taking magnesium supplements helped stop my itching. I was tearing the skin off my arms and legs but it seemed to stop about weeks after taking magnesium. It also helped with insomnia and rage too!

FatherJoseFernandez · 27/01/2024 21:34

*two weeks that should say

Oblomov23 · 27/01/2024 21:59

I have very itchy skin.

twitchwitch · 27/01/2024 22:07

How quickly did the itching start for you all? My itching came out of nowhere & I've never known anything like it, it's just unbearable. I do have some other health issues & don't actually know if the itching is hormonal or something else but nothing really seems to help it.

43ontherocksporfavor · 27/01/2024 22:09

I’ve not heard of this with menopause. I’m over two years since last period and not had this. I’m not on HRT though. I’ve heard of itching with liver issues or anaemia .Have you been to GP?

Ifyouhavetoask99 · 27/01/2024 22:13

My arms itch to the point I’ve used a body brush to scratch the life out of them.
things that work for me -
piriton tablets (4mg ones)
ice pack - such relief

I would love to hear what creams might work?
I’ve tried e45, and Eumovate

MoonWoman69 · 27/01/2024 22:15

I am also 2 to 3 years on from my last period and have had the itching, it's enough to drive you insane! I haven't had HRT either, so now I'm wondering if there's something in the HRT that prevents the itch? Most of my itching is in places that are either unreachable or tender to scratch!

LadySlipper · 27/01/2024 22:18

Mostly every evening I am absolutely tortured with the itching. I nearly take two layers off skin off with loofah mitts after a soak in the tub and I slather the oil/cream/moisturiser on until I'm like the main event in a greased pig competition, and there is no relief to be had. HRT has managed my rage, but hasn't done a thing for the itch. 😫

Mumscollab · 27/01/2024 22:25

I use Sanex fragrance free, it definitely helps. I'm not on HRT by the way

unsync · 27/01/2024 22:57

I swapped to vegetable soap from shower gel, and moisturise with Cetaphil now. My skin became really dry almost overnight and the itchiness was awful. The Cetaphil worked instantly, it is a great relief.

Mine is awful. Came out of the blue in January 2020 and I've had it ever since. It's worse as my periods come around and was worse, I think, when it first started (either that or I've simply learned to live with it). It brought me out in hives to begin with. I control it with Loratadine.

I had my bloods checked as this can be a symptom of underlying kidney or liver issues, so I do recommend you do this. I've had batteries of blood tests for various reasons in the years since and nothing untoward has ever come up, therefore the only remaining explanation has to be perimenopause.

No one ever seems to warn women about these things!

justasking111 · 27/01/2024 23:28

Goats milk soap. Non bio washing powder. Binned the conditioner. Fexofenadine for allergies.

I now have allergic asthma, hayfever all the year round. Probably allergic to the dogs, cat, dust mites etc.

I'm even allergic to some woods we use in the log burner. Scented candles etc a thing of the past 😭

HardcoreLadyType · 27/01/2024 23:29

Go to the GP. There is a kind of liver cirrhosis that disproportionately affects middle aged women. It is not associated with alcohol consumption. I listened to a thing on radio 4 about it, a year or so ago, and remember that itching was a major symptom.

Crikeyalmighty · 27/01/2024 23:32

I had this- but all down below- blooming awful- eventually went away but lasted 18 months

Abitboring · 27/01/2024 23:36

I'm only early 40s with regular periods but have noticed more hormonal symptoms over the last few years, especially hot flushes, night sweats and itching of my upper body. I tried various things but what stopped it was super drug vitamin e body butter for dry skin. I have to moisturise twice a day though.

Summerhillsquare · 28/01/2024 06:02

Fexofenadine anti histamine tablets are the only ones that work for me. The loratidine etc doesn't touch it.

AwkwardSquad · 28/01/2024 07:51

I had this - not exactly itching, but the feeling of tiny insects crawling all over your body. It’s called formication, and settled down after a while on HRT. Altered skin sensation is definitely a menopause thing, and it’s bloody awful! It’s not caused by anything topical, it’s the changing hormone levels that sets it off.
