Not anti-HRT but finding a combination that suits me is taking a while, so in the meantime....
Does anyone have any recommendations for supplements, treatments, beauty products...anything that helps.
So far I take magnesium, b12 tablets and evening primrose and have started using eborian's anti redness cc cream, all of which I would recommend. Anything else?

Which magnesium are you on, and what are you taking it for?
Id add in vit B complex for energy, a good quality omega 3 for joints, and D3 with K2.

Marmaladegin · 21/12/2023 21:40

Just magnesium with calcium tablets from boots... I found they stop my (age related) migraines - a knowledgeable friend told me it works for approx 15% of people and I appear to be one of the lucky few.

What's d3 and k2? I'll look for vit b complex. Presumably that includes b12?

Have a look at magnesium L Threonate as you might find that better for migraines. And be careful about taking calcium.

Swimming, a wool duvet, sleeping 9-5 (at night).

Yes, includes B12

FatherJoseFernandez · 21/12/2023 21:47

Black cohosh - it’s been a life saver for me!

Google Nutravita D3 and K2 and you can see how they work together. I recommend their omega 3 2000mg fish oil too.

Ditching caffeine and alcohol.

Really? Why do you say that? I assumed it was an added bonus to ward off osteoporosis?
Yes @missfliss actually I've just ditched alcohol in the last week after finally cottoning on that even very moderate drinking left me feeling ratty and low the next day. Did you find caffeine made a big difference (I only drink approx 3 cups of tea but I loves them. Can't drink coffee for last few years as gives me migraines)

Sorry, meant @Christmassss

Yes I found giving up caffeine made a massive difference for me. I am more on an even keel, anxiety is better/gone, no energy slumps.

Marmaladegin · 22/12/2023 02:23

I only drink coffee on a morning and no caffeine after 3pm. I drink lots of water and try to have a protein based lunch. Supplements I take are: ashwaganda , L-Theanine, Vitamin K2 and D3 , vitamin C and i take magnesium glycinate before bed to help me sleep. So far it's working and I feel good - not fantastic but a lot better than I was.

madamepresident · 22/12/2023 02:42

And I very rarely drink now

madamepresident · 22/12/2023 02:42

And I also take an omega 3 supplement as well.

Marmaladegin · 23/12/2023 10:58

Right, I have ordered vit k2 and d3 and vegetarian omega 3. I'll improve my magnesium choice when I next run out. Does anyone recommend collagen?

Yes to ditching caffeine & alcohol - I drink regular tea in the morning, decaf tea after lunch. I do still drink occasionally but it definitely affects both my sleep & my mood so I find it worthwhile less & less often.
Exercise and ideally outdoors exercise also really helps my energy levels & mood, but I'm not sure that's menopause specific. I think it's always been the case for me, I am just more aware these days.

Come back in a couple of months and let us know the difference it has made.

Rethink your diet.
Check out Georgia Ede, Mindy Pelz and Dr Boz, Eric Westman and Peter Attia on YouTube.

It's boring but physical activity is my top tip. If you want to sleep on a night get out every day, rain shine or gales and walk 10k steps. No fancy gyms needed, I guarantee you will sleep and lose any muffin tops into the bargain. No booze, or occasional only.

We can cope with shit habits until you get to about 40 then your body just decides to object.

I'm not one for supplements other than Vit D.

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 24/12/2023 15:58

Black cohosh - my GP actually recommended it to me, as I couldn't take HRT because of the cancer risk (my mother died from advanced breast cancer).

Cut down/out caffeine/alcohol (I failed on both fronts!)

Cut down on carbohydrate in your diet - especially sugar.

lljkk · 27/12/2023 15:33

I am a fan of exercise, being outside, nature, and volunteering.

cheapskatemum · 27/12/2023 17:16

I found taking red clover stopped me having hot flushes (as with pp, my GP recommended this.

I eat low carb, no ultra processed foods if I can help it & rarely drink alcohol. No caffeinated drinks after noon.

I note that when ever homeopathy is mentioned on Mumsnet there is a sudden flurry of nay sayers( big pharma advocates)
However I regularly use the homeopathy remedy Sepia, by Weleda.
It has been a life saver for so many
Google the remedy on Dr Homeo,
