I hate progesterone

Seeing a private meno doc tomorrow and wondering about asking if i can take less progesterone as it makes me feel horrendous and my GP is useless.

I have been struggling with this for nearly 2 years.

Has anyone else found a way to cope with having to take progesterone?

My private meno specialist said that going down to every day Utrogestan can mean random break through bleeds for perimenopausal women.
So best to do this afterwards.

This is me. Adenmyosis and just had polyp removal which I am convinced grew when I tried oestrogel last year but couldn't tolerate Utro at all and suicidal and basically couldn't function at all inwas in a coma more or less...

However I am sweating a lot, flushing in evening, when I eat, depressed, anxious and exhausted. Dry downstairs and constant UTIs.

And heavy heavy periods and iron deficiency.

I'd love to know name of doc OP. Literally sitting in bsck garden crying as we speak

I picked someone from Dr Naomi Potter's organisation. Am on the app and cant work out how to message sorry!

You can read up on the drs here and book through the link. It's really easy to get an appointment l.

Not cheap but to me it was worth it.

I’m most likely being thick- but when you say afterwards do you mean after your periods have stopped altogether?

I think I am going to experiment with a lower 100mg dose of progesterone on a 21 day cycle and then start again when a bleed starts and see how that goes while also upping my gel.

I also spoke to another person IRL who is progesterone intolerant.

some one also suggested the oestrogen patch as that might be a better absorption rate than the gel.

lots to think about

@Catsfrontbum I posted this for you last week.

I've been on HRT for 15 years. When I started it, practically no one was using gel or Utrogestan.

Utrogestan is a love/ hate drug.

The advice is after 3 months and feeling rotten, you work on the HRT.
Using anti ds is against NICE guidance and they too have side effects.

You can read about it here- medical site https://www.balance-menopause.com/menopause-library/antidepressants-and-menopause-factsheet/

The first step is to work on your HRT and get that right. You may need more estrogen, so not just 2 pumps but 3 or 4.

What I did, was use estrogen-only for 10 weeks, to get the dose right to control peri symptoms, before adding in progesterone.

To update this....

In peri menopause ( periods not stopped but may be infrequent even just 3/4 times a year) HRT should be used on a cycle. That's so many days of progesterone per month (s). This type gives a false period- a withdrawal bleed.

For post menopause, (no periods for at least 12 months) women can choose to use continuous HRT. (Both hormones daily.) This gives no-bleed. if this regime is used too soon (in peri) it can cause breakthrough bleeding. This can raise alarm bells with women being sent for investigations, etc etc. usually unnecessarily.

It's not a particularly good idea to use Utrogestan for 21 days if you are intolerant to it. That's a lot in a month! You won't get the benefit of no-bleed (you may still get a very light bleed) but you might get all the side effects by using it daily.

You'd be better using it for 10 days per month (that's a calendar month) OR doing long-cycle of 14 days every 3 months.

I hated the idea of a coil but it’s been fine. I had it inserted under GA at the same time as a hysterescopy.

Exactly the same here. Idk if I would have had it without the GA, I had developed such an aversion to anything going in my vagina, partly because it's often painful but also just in an unexplainable way I was just upset by the thought.

It's so much better than utrogestan (oral or vaginal), I had real despair before and now I feel more normal.

Into my 3rd week of just oestrogen (as advised by specialist) and I'm feeling hiuge and quite anxious already.

I had thought the progesterone was the main problem.

I'm seriously considering giving up this hrt lark all together! It's so annoying. Sick of thinking about it!
