Utrogestan

Has anyone in the SE managed to get utrogestan recently?

I have been offered provera or northisterone but don't want to take either as I find synthetic progesterone gives me a headache.

I have a months supply left so was wondering if it is worth waiting to see if it comes in stock anywhere.

I suggested Bijuva or the vaginal utrogestan to my gp but they say they are unable to prescribe either of these.

If you look at Besins website and supply of products they have been giving dates of when the next batches will come into the UK.

longtompot · 30/06/2023 10:30

I have managed to get a months supply but where I normally get it from (Pharmacy 2U actually cancelled my order despite saying it was packed and ready for dispatch), so I had a frantic call to my local pharmacy linked to the gp and they did me a new prescription. They did say it is changing every month and can only give me a month at a time. Im so glad I have the exception certificate.

lechatnoir · 30/06/2023 11:51

I couldn't get it anywhere so I've had to swap to a patch. Early days so I don't know whether it's any good and not hundred percent happy as the progesterone isn't body identical, but don't have much choice.

Passthecake30 · 30/06/2023 14:59

My doctor has swapped me over to a patch due to the supply issues in our area, I’m a couple of days in, so fingers x

Delalune72 · 01/07/2023 14:41

I managed to get 15 tablets after a 2 week wait from my local pharmacy. Pharmacy2u sent the prescription back after a 2 week delay.

SusannaOh · 01/07/2023 16:13

Can I ask what patch you are being given instead?

HundredMilesAnHour · 01/07/2023 16:19

Nope. Haven't been able to get any for months. I'm having to take Provera instead.

lechatnoir · 01/07/2023 18:08

@SusannaOh evorel æqui which is 2 different patches (one tapie oestrogen and one progesterone). I'm really like the patch over gel for ease but have yet to figure out how to clean off the sticky residue and would rather switch back to the pills for the progesterone as they are body identical whereas the patch isn't. Not noticing much difference but haven't been feeling well (don't think it's related but now I'm writing I'm wondering ?!)

lechatnoir · 01/07/2023 18:10

That should say evorel sequi & conti

Passthecake30 · 01/07/2023 21:17

I’ve been given Everol conti instead, no periods for over a year and a bit (I’m 48)

Moredarkchocolateplease · 03/07/2023 10:05

Why won't they give you vaginal pessaries of utrogestan? I got that from my GP without a problem.

SusannaOh · 03/07/2023 12:15

Baby oil for the sticky marks.

They probably would, but they are pretty much the same as the oral capsules (which can be used vaginally), plus I'm taking 100mcg continuously and asfaik they only come in 200mcg.

Sorry, I thought I was on another thread 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ ignore that reply!

Moredarkchocolateplease · 03/07/2023 12:22

They are different in so far as you can't take them orally and so there is no shortage of them.
Ah hadn't realised about the 100 dose. That's a pain.

Sorry I should have read more carefully.

They told me that they have been told to reserve the vaginal capsules for use in pregnancy due to the shortage. This is despite the fact I have been using the non vaginal utrogestan vaginally for a few months on their advice.

They can only offer me the non body identical progesterone which gives me a headache. They also say I have to pay for this despute having an hrt certificate as these are not listed on it.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 03/07/2023 16:17

What?! Surely all the progesterone options should be available on the HRT certificate. That's crackers. So you only get it free if its utrogestan but not norehisterone or provera?

I've just given up on utro and switched to the mirena coil, so keeping my fingers crossed it works and I can leave it in and forget about it.

Is that an option?

lechatnoir · 03/07/2023 17:54

@Bubbles254 I've felt awful these past few weeks totally spaced out with a headache + crappy/dodgy tummy some days. I'd never even thought about my HRT as it's just a change of brand (same dose) but you reckon not being body identical can really make that much difference and so quickly? Honestly totally baffled what to ask for if not this patch.

And thanks for the baby oil tip will try it later Flowers

Bubbles254 · 03/07/2023 18:11

@Moredarkchocolateplease it is crackers, I wouldn't even mind paying (twice) if I knew it would work for me but to have to pay again for something which I know will give me headaches is completely rubbish. I wondered about the mirana but am reluctant to have it inserted in case I get the sane side effects as this is non body identical albeit in a lower dose.

@lechatnoir sorry to hear that. I think non body identical is meant to have more side effects in sone people. Have you had side effects from contraceptive pills in the past as they are also non body identical?

Just wondering how you're getting on with the Evorel patches

@Passthecake30? A full cycle on and I've asked to switch - no idea what to and did quite like the ease of a patch but I've had the mother of all head aches plus weird skin itching I've never experienced before AND my main symptoms (low mood/brain fog/lack of energy) seem to be back full pelt so it's a definite no for the Evroel Conti/Sequia from me!

I've signed up to an online pharmacy to see if they can get the Utrogestan in which case I'm asking to go back on that & the gel but if it's still hard to get hold of I'm considering asking for the coil if there's

Passthecake30 · 21/07/2023 17:00

@lechatnoir sorry to hear about your issues. I am liking the patch, I feel much more stable on it and it’s less faffy than the gel/pill combo. However, over the last few days I’ve had fairly heavy period type bleeding (ie more than spotting), prior to this I’d not had a period for a year (I’m 48). I didn’t have any such issues with the gel but I do think I’m getting more of a hit of oestrogen with the patch (as I feel better) so hoping it calms down. I’ve been on HRT less than 6 months so I think it is normal enough.

Notellinganyone · 21/07/2023 17:22

I now have the exemption certificate but was previously buying privately- I get the repeat prescription a month early so always have some in hand . Alternatively I get my sister in Greece to send me some.

I was the same with the patches, glad it’s not just me! They’ve moved me back to the gel and pills for now as they’ve managed to get some back in stock.

Yesquiteright · 21/07/2023 17:32

Anybody know why it's so hard to get hold of? I'm completely out of it yet again..

countingto10 · 21/07/2023 20:40

I was fully expecting to be given only one month’s supply at the beginning of the month but Asda pharmacy gave me three months worth🤷‍♀️ so it seems a bit hit and miss. I have to say that my local Asda pharmacy came up trumps when there was the oestrogen gel supply issue too when my doctor’s pharmacy couldn’t get hold of any. It does pay to phone around - gave up with my doctor’s surgery in the end.
