How soon after starting HRT did you notice an improvement?

Just that really, how soon after starting did you feel that your symptoms eased (assuming they did)?

Was there a period of settlement/adjustment and did any symptoms get worse before they got better?

A couple of weeks, max. It was really quick.

everycowandagain · 09/06/2023 16:28

Someone else asked me about 3 days in why I looked so peppy!

TheMindfulMum · 09/06/2023 16:35

Wow?! That's really positive. I've been given a trial which I could start on Monday. I was a bit reluctant due to some things we've got booked coming up over the next 8 weeks and I was worried if everything goes a bit haywire, am I best putting up with everything else. But I've really struggled this week so I'm thinking sod it, let's get going with it and hope things have calmed by next month 🤞🏼

Within a week. GP friend was skeptical, but honestly, the improvement was really fast for me.

TheDogsMother · 09/06/2023 16:43

After about three days the night sweats stopped and my sleep got so much better.

barbarahunter · 09/06/2023 16:43

same here, less than a week

FriedEggChocolate · 09/06/2023 16:53

sorry to crash your thread @TheMindfulMum but can I ask how long it took you all to get the right dose? I'm tempted to make an appointment with my GP but they're not close to work so I'd have to do an 18 mile round trip for additional appointments if the dosage isn't right, which is putting me off. How easy have you all found to get the dosage right first time?

TheMindfulMum · 09/06/2023 17:03

@FriedEggChocolate - with a name like that, you can gatecrash anytime! Fried egg chocolate, just yum 😋

What an uplifting thread! I can't wait to start now. I've been worrying all week that starting this month is going to upset the apple cart. Fingers crossed for a positive experience like those who have commented. Thank you so much for sharing x

Yep same here, really quick - 3-4 days in for me, it's a life changer!

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 09/06/2023 17:12

Less than a week for night sweats
A bit longer for other symptoms, took a slight increased dose to resolve those

SofiaAmes · 09/06/2023 17:13

Within a week or two

Mymblesdaughter · 09/06/2023 17:22

3 or 4 weeks for hot flushes to go.

Sewingdufus · 09/06/2023 18:17

A couple of days. Got a very heavy period straight after taking the progesterone but also slept like a baby - hadn’t realised lack of sleep was so extreme or affecting me as badly.

MissSmiley · 09/06/2023 20:25

I slept through the night within 48hrs after having really bad insomnia and my palpitations got better really quickly too

wizzler · 09/06/2023 20:54

Started on HRT on Tuesday.... no change to aches and pains but I've slept through the last 2 nights and it's been months since that happened

MrsHerculePoirot · 10/06/2023 11:38

3-5 days I got my life back. Felt like me again, lighter, happier, didn’t hate everyone, most of The Rage went. Wish I had done it months ago. I’m two months in and it is the best thing I ever did. Life changing for me.

vestanesta · 10/06/2023 12:05

Just finished my first month of sequi patches.

First 2 weeks I felt less achey and a bit more energetic but nothing more. When I started the progesterone bit I got a bit sick and tired every patch change day.

But my pmt was better, I didn't get the night sweats I usually get a few days before my period and my boobs were less sore.

Across the entire month my libido picked up (usually it's flat except for a day or two at ovulation).

My friend needed 3 months for her to feel benefits. I'm keen on the sleep improvement to happen as that was my main reason for starting in the first place

CiaoBellisima · 10/06/2023 12:08

Within 3 days for me. I was suddenly sleeping for a 5-6 hour stretch. A lovely but unexpected side effect after many years of 2-4 hours of sleep per night.

Inadvertentlyspring · 10/06/2023 12:32

I swear like other posters, within a very few days (I feel like 48 hours for this one symptom) - i have a lot of back problems and had then developed massive joint pains. I remember lying in bed and it felt like someone had literally injected me with some magical joint-pain-easing drug.

WonderDays · 10/06/2023 12:54

Two to three months for me and it was a subtle improvement. I’ve been in it about 4.5 years now and am very happy.

lightlypoached · 10/06/2023 12:57

Same as all the above.

The real revelation was that I started dreaming again. My sleep had been so bad that I'd not dreamt properly in years. Mad crazy wonderful dreams. So wonderful. Hadn't realised that I'd missed them.

I started testosterone after 3 months and that took about 3/4 months to have its full effect. That is bloody wonderful too. I'm all lurved up again and sex is back to how it was in my youth 😬. DH seems quite chuffed too 😂😂😂. There's life in the old dog yet 😎

KohlaParasaurus · 10/06/2023 17:19

Two weeks before I was free of flushes, a little longer for the dryness. I had no other symptoms.

whatisforteamum · 10/06/2023 17:54

2 or 3 months as I felt dizzy on the dose I had and felt dizzy before.🤣
Recently got swopped from utrogestan to provera and feel better still.
Been on HRT for 4 yrs now and wish I had had the chance sooner.

ETgo · 10/06/2023 18:08

Can I be nosey and ask how old you all are and if you any problems with your GP prescribing HRT? I'm coming up 42 and struggling but just worried as I'm not 45 they will just refuse!

MrsHerculePoirot · 10/06/2023 18:21

I am 45 and had no problems at all. I had used the balance app to track symptoms just in case I needed it but I didn’t. I requested an appt with whoever was best placed to deal with menopause issues when I booked. I told her my symptoms she prescribed me HRT to start that day and sent me for blood tests but my HRT was not dependent on that.
