I'm sooooo tired

I'm SO TIRED. ALL. THE. TIME. I'm bored of myself saying I'm tired.

I'm 50. Been on hrt for 2 years. 100 patches plus progesterone.

Yes, I'm busy -kids, work f/t, help with DH business, I actually "like" to run, usual household shite. You know how it goes....

But I'm TIRED. I'm tired on a busy day. I'm even more tired on a slow day. (Wtf if that about?!!)

I'm not TOO bad in the morning, but I crash mid afternoon. And I have zero energy or motivation to cook. Then I'm also inclined to comfort eat and drink wine in the evening. Weight going on because tiredness erodes my willpower and motivation

My sleep isn't great. But it's not as terrible as the tiredness.

Anyway. Mostly just sharing

Yeah. It's the pits. I juggle my hours for a mid afternoon nap when I can. Go to bed early and get up early. Use sleeping aids when necessary. That keeps it copeable.

Thisismynewname123 · 18/05/2023 16:55

This sounds so much like me. I'm so fed up of being tired.

bookworm44 · 18/05/2023 17:00

Me too!! I'm tired even though i sleep well every night for a reasonable amount of time. I would be so happy if someone had the answer. My eyes are burning today but i think they may be dry aswell as tired.

junebirthdaygirl · 18/05/2023 17:01

I take The Complete Woman supplement from Boots..definitely helps. Not interested in advertising for them but it contains what you need. Not on HRT so presume it's fine to take.
And exercise .

isthewashingdryyet · 18/05/2023 17:04

Check your vitamin D, sounds like you could be deficient

Saucemonkey · 18/05/2023 17:07

Me too. Tired all the time. And my legs feel heavy.

grafittiartist · 18/05/2023 17:10

Gosh- could have written this too.
Terrible isn't it. My energy levels are so low.
I usually exercise a lot, but have lost the mojo.
Sorry- no advice- just solidarity.

Testosterone is meant to be very good for menopause fatigue, though you can't say that's what you want it for.

Hbh17 · 18/05/2023 17:25

It's called "getting a bit older" 😂 Completely normal.

Really? Well that's sad. I'm only 54 & feel like i should feel less exhausted after a good 9 hours sleep!

BrassicaBabe · 18/05/2023 18:13

Well, I'm not alone at least!

Vitamin D and testosterone (both free and the other one) are all normal I'm afraid.

Comfort eat and drink wine?? Both of these possibly contributing to you feeling constantly tired. Your body does not sleep properly if it's trying to digest too much sugar and alcohol has the liver working overtime. So although you might be asleep your body is not resting and that's why you are crashing by midday.
Try looking at your diet and take small regular healthy snacks which can prevent comfort eating and sugar crashes. Save the wine for weekends only??
I'm only posting this because I was the same and feel huge improvements since I reduced my alcohol and sugar intake. I walk most days now too and my mental health has improved hugely. Don't get me wrong it was incredibly hard to get the motivation to make these changes. I talked myself out of it for weeks. I joined an exercise class and haven't looked back. I still have bad days/weeks etc but overall feeling better. Also taking omega supplements.

bookworm44 · 18/05/2023 21:35

I used to love really long walks but my joints hurt too much these days.

Tiredsotired23 · 18/05/2023 21:52

Have you had iron and thyroid checks? What is your testosterone level? I think there’s a big range of what is considered normal for women but a bit more may help

DustyLee123 · 18/05/2023 21:54

Try vit B complex for energy. And ditch the booze, it affects your sleep.

100% agree re alcohol. My Fitbit confirmed that whenever I drank alcohol, I'd only get light sleep and too little deep sleep. You get to sleep then the alcohol dehydrates you and you wake up. You lose the deep sleep and that makes you feel like shit and anxious the next day. Your body needs its hydration and nutrition from fresh food and water. Then you'll sleep. Alcohol also heats up your body temperature when you go to bed, hence not helping you remain asleep if you become too hot.

SirChenjins · 18/05/2023 22:14

Me too. I don’t drink so can’t blame that, walk the dog 2 or 3 times a day, get a good night’s sleep - but I’m constantly mentally and physically exhausted. Can’t take HRT. It’s the pits.

Jellykat · 18/05/2023 22:23

I'm post meno, and couldnt take HRT.. i'm the same and crash between 3.00 and 5.00 every afternoon. Really tough going at work, especially as i can no longer drink coffee (palpitations)
I find its worse if i dont drink enough water..

AlisonDonut · 18/05/2023 22:28

There is a thread on here about magnesium. It has changed me post menopause.

supercatlady · 18/05/2023 22:32

This was me, and I’ve just found out I have moderate sleep apnoea. I had put it all down to menopause, but when I got to 100mg oestrogen and still didn’t feel better I decided to look into other possibilities.

BrassicaBabe · 19/05/2023 03:08

Oh the irony of reading thread at 3am. Wake up most night about this time. ( will r reply properly in the morning)

It's probably the alcohol and sleep that's killing you assuming you've had a full medical checkup and you ferritin, thyroid and B vitamins are all good. 3am wakeups sound like sugar crashes, you're almost certainly insulin resistant or even prediabetic. You could get a sleep tracker or a continuous glucose monitor so you can see what's happening, or ask to go for a sleep study to find out. You could well have sleep apnoea too.

If you fixed your diet and cut the wine out completely it will help regardless of the cause. Try a low carb diet.

Not sure what a blood test for testosterone being normal means. It's 'normal' for a 50 year old woman to have extremely low levels of testosterone, that doesn't mean it's a good thing, or a good thing for you as an individual. If your doctor has interpreted all your other test results in the same moronic way (which is extremely common) then you may well have other problems which they're not diagnosing. Make sure you have actual copies of your blood test results and have asked Dr. Google to interpret them for you.

dubyalass · 19/05/2023 08:03

I feel your pain. Woke up at 5am today but it's usually 6am or thereabouts despite going to bed at 11pm or later. I think my insomnia is partly due to my job which is extremely stressful at the moment, so I go to bed too late because I don't want tomorrow to start, if that makes sense. I've forgotten what it's like to not feel exhausted and like others it's impacting the rest of my life.

Trying to find a new job but nothing really appeals at the moment (and I'm too tired to do job applications in the evening!). On HRT since January but if anything the tiredness is worse.

BrassicaBabe · 19/05/2023 08:15

Bless you all. I appreciate the support and comments!

I have my HRT privately. I couldn't cope with the feckwittery at my GP.

I've recently had several blood tests and reviewed by the hrt medic. No problems with anything (which of course is great. But was also hoping for a magic fix too 🙄). No problems with vit D, b, thyroid, not pre-diabetic or insulin resistant. I tried a testosterone cream and didn't notice and improvement (not unusual)

I used to be low carb and liked it. But I run distances up to half marathon and low carb wasn't leaving me with enough energy for this.

I exercise several times a week - 3 runs, 2 weight training sessions, yoga and Pilates.

Bollox. It's the wine isn't it 😩😩😩 Lord above, leave me with one thing!!

I have had to give up my life long love of Diet Coke because suddenly my anxiety last year was THROUGH THE ROOF!

Life is a bitch 😩

Personally I would never trust the medical profession to review my blood tests for me. If you're within the lab reference ranges most tell you your results are normal. They'll also do things like check TSH but not FT4 for thyroid for example and tell you your thyroid is fine. You can have a ferritin of 9 and if the bottom end of the lab reference range is 8 they'll tell you your iron is normal.

But yes the wine and the sleep are the two obvious culprits unfortunately. I assume you're not vegan, and that they checked B12. You do need to get checked for sleep apnoea though, it's really common especially as people get older. I think it's a huge faff to get it investigated properly but it would be worth it if that's the main cause of the tiredness. You might even find yourself able to have wine at lunch the odd time if that was fixed. I presume you're doing all the other things to get better sleep like no blue light in the evening, no eating 3 hours before sleep, early morning light exposure, not exercising late etc.
