The HRT prepaid prescription certificate goes live tomorrow.

Thank you for this! I just heard from my GP and they just got my Utrogestan!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 01/04/2023 06:28

It doesn't seem that you can currently buy it from that page, it hasn't gone live yet. I'm picking up my prescription in a few hours and would like to get it before then! I know you can get it from some pharmacies too, but I can imagine being faced with blank looks if I ask.

OhVicIveFallen · 01/04/2023 06:35

So it's just the same as the ppc that is already available then? I pay £10.81 a month for a ppc and use that to get my hrt. I don't see the difference? Is it just you have ro pay quarterly or yearly with the hrt ppc?

ferneytorro · 01/04/2023 06:35

Thank you for the reminder.

The link takes you to the one you (and I) have got already. When the site is updated, the hrt one is a lot cheaper.

I think it's the cost of two prescriptions ( so just over £18) for a year of HRT. Must cheaper than the PPC if HRT is your only prescription.

WhereAreWeNow · 01/04/2023 07:04

I'm guessing the form will go live in a few hours.

monkeyblonde · 01/04/2023 07:11

I also have Testogel as part of my treatment so need to work out the best way ahead for me - assuming others are in the same boat?

I think if you’re picking up a prescription today I’d speak to the pharmacist and show him the the link. They should be given the latest NHS information before it’s live. I’m wondering if it’ll go live at 9am. @BatshitCrazyWoman could you possibly collect you prescription on Monday if the link doesn’t work until then.

Ah right, that make sense.

I’m on the understanding that unfortunately Testogel isn’t included on the PPC list for the HRT certificate. There’s a list on the website stating what’s going to be allowed with the ppc.

Hullothereitsme · 01/04/2023 07:32

Anyone know how it works with a prepayment cert already in place? Can it be switched? Will I get a refund?

toomuchfaster · 01/04/2023 07:40

@Hullothereitsme the HRT PPC will only cover HRT so it depends what else you get on prescription. Obviously, no point buying both but you will have to pay separately for any other items. I think you will have to go back to the gov.uk you buy it from to ask about a refund for an annual certificate, unless you can just cancel your DD.
@BatshitCrazyWoman it's unlikely you will be able to get a prescription today at the reduced rate but you can ask for an FP10 receipt, I think it's an FP57, which will allow you to get a refund for a prescription charge later provided your HRT PPC is dated from the date of the receipt. A simple till receipt won't get your a refund.

Thank you, I'll do that. The next time I can collect my prescription is next Saturday, and I don't want to wait until then (and not sure if I have enough Utrogestan to last!).

JinglingSpringbells · 01/04/2023 08:12

I'm assuming this is only for NHS prescriptions and not private ones?
I'd always assumed that anyway, and can afford the cost of mine, but if anyone else knows, do say.

Whaeanui · 01/04/2023 08:20

Yes it is only for NHS. A private prescription just for Utrogestan cost me £50 for 3 months. Not including the appointment fees to get it!

That sounds about right. The cost per tablet is anywhere from 40p-50p depending on the mark up by the pharmacy incl dispensing charges.

So if it was 50p, a box if 30 would be £15.

I use less than you as I only take it every 6 weeks on a cycle.

Whaeanui · 01/04/2023 09:15

@JinglingSpringbells oh yes I think I’ve heard about that method before. I’m terrible if I don’t have it so after 18 months I’m on continuous, every day no break ( periods already almost non existent anyway ). It’s so much better for me. I wish I could understand why it’s so different for different women. Why I am crazy without progesterone! It’s really obvious and really severe.

BarbaraofSeville · 01/04/2023 10:13

Just checked and the link isn't working yet, I just get 'bad gateway'. Maybe it will work on Monday?

As long as it works in the next 2 weeks I'm happy, because that's how long the patches I currently have will last.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 01/04/2023 10:17

Same here bad gateway

Sidge · 01/04/2023 10:24

The HRT prepayment certificate will only be for NHS prescriptions, and only for HRT items listed https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/help-nhs-prescription-costs/nhs-hormone-replacement-therapy-prescription-prepayment-certificate-hrt-ppc/medicines-covered-hrt-ppc

If you already have exemptions or have a prepayment certificate for other prescribed items it’s not worth getting, but if your only prescriptions are for HRT products (including vaginal oestrogens) it’s worth getting as it will cover all HRT items for 12 months for the cost of £19.30.

monkeyblonde · 01/04/2023 11:51

@Strongbeatsskinny I know Testogel is not included - I think I said that in my post. Need to work out the most cost effective way of getting both elements.

Littlepumpkinpie · 01/04/2023 11:57

Has anyone actually managed to get the HRT ppc yet ?

WhereAreWeNow · 01/04/2023 11:58

I suspect the site has crashed because of demand.
