Is anyone using it? Has it helped? Are you using it alongside other HRT?
What type are you using?
Did you just go and buy it yourself?

Remainiac · 28/11/2022 08:41

I have Vagifem on prescription, use it pretty much every day as atrophy is one of my worst symptoms. I also have other HRT.

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 28/11/2022 11:51

Do you mind if I ask you about it please?

Is it a gel? Or a capsule?
Does it help with soreness from sex?

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 28/11/2022 11:52

@Remainiac oh also, does it require a prescription then?

I use Ovestin. I get it on prescription- I’m in early menopause due to autoimmune issues, I’m 42 and have been on that and systemic HRT since 37. I prefer Ovestin to Vagifem as you can use it externally as well as internally as it’s a cream.

I also use Replens which is non hormonal on the days I don’t use Ovestin as I have sjorgens which makes me super dry.

Remainiac · 28/11/2022 12:16

There’s a new OTC one called Gina (I think) which has been advertised on tv - I don’t know how it compares with Vagifem.

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 28/11/2022 12:32

Was looking at Gina - looks like tablets you put up rather than a cream you can apply.

Thanks @Afterfire - is it on prescription because of your age? Being under 50?

Why do you not apply it every day?

I've used Vagifem, which are tablets you insert, and a cream, which I find easier because you can apply it to the whole area to avoid atrophy. You can buy some over the counter, but your GP should also prescribe them. My GP said recently that it all looked perfect! 😂

minmooch · 28/11/2022 12:34

I'm using Gina - seems to be good although I have nothing to compare it too.

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 28/11/2022 12:35

I'm seeing the gynae next week to discuss increasing my HRT, and am wondering about adding something like this. Am not dry, but sex has been really sore a few times recently.

What has it helped with?
Did it work immediately?

Do you use lube OP? My gynacologist suggested the brand YES

Footle · 28/11/2022 12:41

I'm over 70. I've used Vagifem pessaries for the last decade or so. One inserted every night for two weeks, then one every few days ( two a week ) ever since. I wish they would redesign the packaging - heavy on plastic and aluminium foil- but it's a very effective medication.

Footle · 28/11/2022 12:41

And yes we have sex and use lube.

It's not dry.
Just feeling really sore on one side during /after dtd.
We used to use lube when using condoms, but since DH had a vasectomy it's been all very moist!
I'm thinking it's hormonal inflammation / thinning of skin down there...?

Can you use the vagifem around the entrance as well as inside? Iyswim?

And good to know people are still at it at 70! 👍👍👍

No because it’s a tablet you insert, but you can use the cream inside and externally.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/11/2022 12:51

Sorry, I was saying you can use the Ovestin outside as well as inside.
