Why oh why ? I’m already on magnesium. Last night I took an antihistamine to try and sleep a bit longer but no, 5.30am again.

OP posts:
Ohyoucutie · 06/11/2022 06:57

Me too. But I love it. Either run or sit with coffee and peruse mumsnet / catch up on admin

Glitterbiscuits · 06/11/2022 07:03

I got up at 6 but mainly because of my heavy period. I'm tired and cramps.
Might put the TV on

Hardthings · 06/11/2022 07:58

I love the extra time on my own. And don’t feel guilty about a sneaky doze later in the day

Fairislefandango · 06/11/2022 08:04

Yep, consistently 5:30 for me too these days. I'm 51 and haven't got any other real signs even of perimenopause yet. It's a pain!

KittenKong · 06/11/2022 08:04

This is a thing?

EnormousStuffedMarrow · 06/11/2022 08:09

Yes frequently awake at that time these days.

If I've slept well, it's fine and I'll get up and start the day. But if I've had a night of waking every few hours then it means I'm exhausted.
If I have a busy day ahead I will often drug myself the night before. Not ideal, but it generally means I can get through the day and be productive and / or enjoy myself.

ivykaty44 · 06/11/2022 08:09

This is a thing?

yes,

I go to bed at a reasonable hour, not to early and not to late

i sleep better the days a exercise and that helps a lot

if I go to be late I still wake early 10 past 5 is my ping eyes open

Fairislefandango · 06/11/2022 08:10

This is a thing?

Yes, very common apparently. For a while I was waking at more like 4:30. I can't nap either, however tired I am, which is annoying.

MamGetUsOneOfThemToKeep · 06/11/2022 08:11

I love it
The 5am waking
I potter about emptying dishwasher, coffee, packed lunches for DCs, getting ready for the day and those housework jobs I didn't get to the night before
Not on hormone treatment or anything for menopause
Get my hot flushes (that keep me warm) and early wake ups ...

CakesAndCookies · 06/11/2022 08:15

The best part of any day, the quietness of the dawn.
Download app Insight timer for free, put the headphones on and meditate. Or just listen and enjoy, you don't even need to leave your bed.

EarringsandLipstick · 06/11/2022 08:17

Yes me too! Mon - Fri I get up and exercise.

Sat & Sun I tend to read / browse my phone & doze off till 7 or so but kinda wish I didn't as I end up more groggy

Boiledeggandtoast · 06/11/2022 08:21

I love it too. I get up and go out on my bike, while the traffic is still quite light (I'm in London); this morning's ride was wonderful, even in the rain. I'm 61 now and in my younger years would never have imagined that I'd enjoy this!

WahineToa · 06/11/2022 08:48

Yup, me too. I hate it but it’s a thing!!

WahineToa · 06/11/2022 08:49

@Boiledeggandtoast that sounds so lovely! It was what I used to do before peri but I still feel too lacking in energy to get up then sadly.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 06/11/2022 08:57

I am fortunate that early waking and insomnia is my only real menopause issue. If it’s 3am it’s a real pain, because that’s too early and I may even fall asleep again by 5 which means I’m still asleep when my alarm goes.

A 5.30 waking (I’m usually asleep before 10.30) is a win - a 7 hour sleep and a gift hour to do whatever I want or need to do. Sometimes I even do an hour’s work and take a long lunch break or knock off early.

I am developing a Pollyanna attitude to this ageing malarkey…

MillyMollyMonday · 06/11/2022 08:59

@Glitterbiscuits you realise this is a thread about the menopause? šŸ˜‚

Me too, OP. I can cope with it but find the dozing on the sofa at 9.30 annoying!

WahineToa · 06/11/2022 09:00

Anyone waking early, are you on progesterone? I am, used to be 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off so while on the 200 dose a day I can sleep till 7am instead. I’m on continuous now so early most days.

WahineToa · 06/11/2022 09:01

@MillyMollyMonday love the username… in perimenopause women still menstruate :)

MillyMollyMonday · 06/11/2022 09:03

Thank you, @WahineToa . I know, I’m peri myself but the poster I was talking about didn’t mention that so I assumed they just read the title! Possibly my mistake 😬

GCAcademic · 06/11/2022 09:04

3.00am here. Then I drift back off at 6.00am just as the alarm clock goes off to go to work. Life is utterly wretched.

Wahine I don't know how old you are, but I find I have much more energy these days, now I am well into my menopause. (I found the perimenopause was the worst time for me.) Good luck and I hope you'll regain your energy in the not too distant future.

WahineToa · 06/11/2022 09:27

@Boiledeggandtoast thank you, I keep hearing that so I’m still in peri, around 50 now so should be post meno soon! I’m also hypothyroid so it’s very complicated with me. How funny to say, I can’t wait till I’m a bit older!

ASmallCat · 06/11/2022 09:37

Tea & tostadas at 4am this morning Grin am currently waiting on car MOT & feel wrecked but at least somewhat fortified.

My big sis did console me with tales of how sleep deteriorates further with age Hmm

Not sure how that’ll happen when 4hrs is a full nights sleep to me but presumably I’ll finally get to live out a Bon Jovi song & sleep when I’m dead Confused

Runaround50 · 06/11/2022 09:37

Awful sleep here. I'm post menopause and on hrt. The only thing which works is amitryptyline 25mg. Then I get SOME sleep at least. Life is tough right now!

RandomMess · 06/11/2022 09:44

5 hours sleep is a good night these days it's miserable and that's with magnesium and a couple of anti-histamines.

I am permanently exhausted.
