If you had post menopausal bleeding did it feel like a period?

Not had a proper period in 2 years , had a couple of spots last year with Covid jabs ( actually on the days of the jabs) but now I'm spotting again . I fully plan to get checked out asap but if anyone else had this did the bleeding feel like a period with PMS or just spotting? And did it turn out to be sinister?

TIA

Just want to say thanks for this thread, it’s helped me.
Sudden bleeding post meno, sent online bullet-point note to my GP 10 days ago, scans within 10 days and now hysteroscopy in next 2 weeks.
This thread has been so very helpful

I'm so pleased.

I still haven't had my scan. Monumental fuck up by the surgery who failed to refer me TWICE. I lost my shit and finally have my referral. If I don't hear anything by Tuesday I am to ring the hospital directly. Fingers crossed it happens quickly as it's been 3.5 weeks now since the initial bleed.

Pleased for you Senorita, and we’ll done MrsP for losing your shit 😁 we should probably lose our shit more often about this sort of thing. I’ve spent so long advocating for various other members of my family, health wise, and not concentrating on me and I once did take notice of the perennial ‘well, your probably menopausal, what do you expect?’ from a GP (woman) but never again. I’m a bit more informed now and hopefully I’ll be better at advocating for myself.

This has just literally happened to me this morning, 17 months since my last period and I just had a ‘period’ that was like an ordinary period for me, I was so shocked and then scared once I googled, now convinced I have some form of cancer. Have a face to face appointment with GP in a weeks time so guess it’s just the torturous waiting game now.

Hempy · 16/08/2022 13:28

Don't panic LadyVictoria. I had the same after Covid and the transvaginal scan showed all was okay. Up to that I'd no period for 12 months. Bleeding can be caused by all manner of things so best to get it checked out but mostly things have benign causes. GP did an internal exam and looked for vaginal atrophy/ raw skin then sent me for a scan.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 16/08/2022 13:38

Thank you @Hempy much appreciated, funny thing you mention covid as this week I’ve had 3 rabies vaccinations at my travel clinic, probably just a coincidence as I’ve only heard of issues with the Covid vaccine. 4 years ago I has a tv scan which showed a fibroid but don’t think that would bleed post meno. I really hate being a woman sometimes.

I had this experience last year when I experienced a number of light bleeds at roughly monthly intervals despite being on HRT. Dr Google said HRT wasn't the right one for me. G.P. insisted on a 2 week referral, I was petrified, had to endure ultrasound (extremely uncomfortable, almost violent) then see the Onco gynaecologist who said I was fine, just needed a different type of HRT. He took a small biopsy and removed a tiny polyp which confirmed the diagnosis. I just wish I'd carried on buying my own HRT on line, adjusted to deal with the symptoms, and not reported it at all.

I've been referred for a scan under the two week pathway.

same thing happened to me.
it was all part of long covid. well, in the midst of it.

That sounds awful, I've had lots of internal scans and barely felt them!!

Glad you have your scan OP, can I ask if you are still bleeding?, if it has stopped how long did it last? Hope you don’t mind me asking, mine is very period like which feels quite alarming.

I had period pain but it was a very small amount of brown blood. Like at the beginning /end of a period. Haven't bled since but feel very hormonal and crampy at the moment and it's nearly a month on now so I think it's my body having a last hopeful blast.

Spoke to the hospital and they said when I'm seen I will have a scan and a hysteroscopy on the same day if necessary and speak to the consultant. It will be 2 weeks from last Friday. I'd have had it done by now if the GP has done the referral properly 🙄

Thanks @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor sounds like yours is the last hormonal hurrah and hopefully nothing sinister at all, I will keep everything crossed for you.

I had a call this morning with a cancellation so I'm in tomorrow morning.

Just read the info and I have to drink tons of water before the scan, omg I remember doing that 20 years ago when I was pregnant, not sure my menopausal bladder is up to holing a litre of water these days 😱

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/08/2022 13:39

All done!

Didn't need the hysteroscopy but had internal scan and it picked up a very large ovation cyst . They took bloods and will contact me with a plan of action as they're concerned how long it's been in there and the size of it.

Hempy · 18/08/2022 14:15

Glad you didn't need a hysteroscopy OP and at least now there's a plan of action for the cyst.

comfortablyfrumpy · 18/08/2022 18:11

Good news that you didn't need a hysteroscopy. I hope you get a treatment plan for your cyst without any more waiting.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/08/2022 18:32

Thanks, stupidly I didn't ask how long it would be likely to be before they contacted me 🙄

Hempy · 18/08/2022 18:44

You weren't stupid - there's a lot to take in at such appointments.

I had my medical gown on backwards, tied together like some mad wrap dress at the front because I was so addled. It was meant to be tied at the back 😂

Hempy · 18/08/2022 18:47

I also have form for leaping off the examination table while forgetting that the medical staff have raised it up high...

All sense leaves me.

Yes, I tried to get off too, didn't realise it was about 6ft in the air 🙄🤣

I have to say I was super impressed with how things have come on in the last 30 years with regards to dignity. The whole thing was very modest and even in the high chair with 5 people in the room I didn't feel embarrassed. There were areas to change and sheets to cover you, doors were locked during procedures.30 years ago you were expected to strip off over one side of the room and walk to the chair/bed naked from the waist down and you were lucky if someone didn't wander in half way through!

Hempy · 18/08/2022 20:27

Yes, I noticed that too. Even the insertion of the internal transducer ultrasound probe is done without looking.

Lovely you’ve got seen MrsPelligrinoPetrichor, I’m in on Monday and just realised I’m not actually sure (even though it’s within the two weeks pathway) what they’re actually going to do. I’m distracted as I’m also on the A Level results thread and having to try negotiate (after not the exact expected results) a trip to both Chichester tomorrow and Cardiff next week. I could easily have cancelled my appointment for Monday (which is exactly what I meant in my last post - putting others first) But I’m not going to, the Uni visit will have to be rearranged around my hospital appointment or DH will have to go it alone with DD. Which given todays results effects on DD makes me feel like a crap mother. Ho hum.

Dh did all the uni visits with ds. I did year after year of parents evenings so figured it was his turn and it meant I wasn't there influencing his decision as she was just the driver.

You should be sent an info email, I had to drink a LITRE of water, only managed half but it was fine, then weed and did the internal scan and then over to see the consultant who had a quick look at my cervix . If I'd needed the hysteroscopy I'd have had it done straightaway. It was all very well organised and didn't have to wait at all,I went straight in. When I had my bloods I only waited 10 minutes.

You must go. Good luck
