How long is it likely to be till I stop mainlining chocolate and generally acting like a psychopath? Or does that just continue?

Can I jump on here to see your replies, I’ve got an appointment soon so hopefully will be starting HRT.

PritiPatelsMaker · 08/07/2022 07:06

Sorry just read that back and realised it sounded like I was telling you to get lost which I'm absolutely not doing.

Just meant that you're welcome on this thread. Hope we get some replies that you'll find useful Flowers

I started in March and felt miles better after about 6 weeks. Recently I've felt a lot of the symptoms coming back though. The brain fog is just awful and broken sleep again.

TheOriginalPhantomflanflinger · 08/07/2022 07:09

I began taking HRT for hot flushes, think it was approx three weeks before I started having relief of symptoms

PritiPatelsMaker · 08/07/2022 07:11

One thing I haven't been having is hot flushes but I've read that lots of women don't?

The bloody brain fog though! I'm surprised I can string a sentence together most days.

I feel instantaneously better!!! I swear on day one I felt good, day two felt good. I’m hopeful it will continue 🙏🏻

KangarooKenny · 08/07/2022 07:14

I’ve not been having hot flushes either, which has made me undecided over taking it.
‘My main problems are general apathy about life, brain fog and feeling angry/not myself.

Stradbroke · 08/07/2022 07:22

It was pretty much instant for me. Much more energy and less anxiety and more bandwidth for other people.

Afterfire · 08/07/2022 07:45

About 2 weeks ish and I felt better but then my boobs were very sore and sensitive for a few weeks - apparently quite normal when you start HRT. I still want to eat all the chocolate and shout at everyone but I think that’s just my new normal!

Redcherries · 08/07/2022 07:49

It took a couple of weeks to start feeling better, I was really struggling, depression, night drenches, extreme anxiety, insomnia, brain fog. I was a mess. Its been nearly a year and we've made some tweaks over time including increasing my dose and changing the method (I now have a marina coil and gel rather than gel and tablets) as I was having some bad weeks. I'm so much better but do still have some dips, such as the week I would get my period, I tend to be very low and anxious and trouble sleeping but it passes.

Good Luck!

CamoTeaLaLa · 08/07/2022 07:54

I can’t remember 😂 I was in such a shit state that the time from starting to take it to feeling So Much Better is a blur of brain fog and madness but I am assured by my cohabitees that it wasn’t long 👍🏼

It didn’t help with the chocolate/eating though… I had been channelling my bouts of hyper focus into a very successful Weightloss regime during the peri stage. Now I am post, on HRT and feeling human again and not subject to extreme swings of emotion I’m finding it very hard to get back on track with healthy & mindful eating. Am plumping back up 😖 But I’m happy and articulate, mostly.

SophiaLarsen · 08/07/2022 10:19

Everol 50 patch started to feel better on day one. Less tiredness more energy. Night sweats stopped at day 3 but returned on and off when I started the micronised progesterone. So at 3 month review am going to ask for more oestrogen.

For the query ref hot flushes, only 1 in 7 women suffer them. They are not the main indicator of menopause but just seem to be the poster girl for it Confused

Within a day I found my husband funny again and my patience loads better!! I laugh and mess about with my daughter now when before I wanted to do NOTHING. The apathy was real.

Rubbish GP then. I had no hot flushes, but awful brain fog insomnia depression and just not feeling like myself. Started to feel better as soon as started HRT. Now on month 2 and still feeling better.

PritiPatelsMaker · 08/07/2022 18:14

So sorry t you've got so poor GP SitDown.

I actually printed off the NICE Guidelines for my BF to take with her to the second appointment when she was begging for help.

I've had a really positive experience. Waited until my 45th birthday and the Dr couldn't have been nicer and prescribed HRT of my choice (I'd done my research and knew what I needed/wanted). I started to feel better within a few weeks (combined patches). I am generally much happier, less prone to murderous rages and mostly sleep is improved. Headaches also better and just have more oomph. My sex drive also seems to have revived, hurrah!

I started with the Mirena and oestrogen patches. Can't remember which ones but had an horrific reaction to the patches.

Stopped the patches and haven't had anything for a while but haven't been coping.

Like others have said I've got brain fog, apathy, low libido and virtually no tolerance for DH.

Mirena is now more than 5 years old so GP has prescribed Elleste.

I have eostrogel and utrogestan. I have a mirena in but its out of date and getting it changed is impossible because of back logs. I'm taking the utrogestan until the mirena can be changed, but it makes me really drowsy.

Summerhillsquare · 08/07/2022 19:12

9 months in my case!

PritiPatelsMaker · 08/07/2022 19:28

Oh God @Summerhillsquare! I've just sent DH out for Chocolate. I think he was happy to get out of the way Grin

Tablet oestrogen is not gold standard and there is an increased risk of clots. It may be worth considering an alternative body identical transdermal like a gel or spray.

Thank you. I haven't been given any information this time and did query if I was right for the tablets as I haven't been allowed the contraceptive pill for 20 years. I used to have migraines where I'd go blind.

I've got a review in a couple of weeks. Does the gel provide progesterone as well?

Micronised progesterone is capsules which you take orally but some people take vaginally if they have difficulty with the oral route. The gel, spray or patch is just oestrogen. You only need progesterone if you have a womb.

Micronised progesterone is the only body identical progesterone. I think the rest are not.
