Evorel Conti patches.. Experiences..

Ihateboris · 26/04/2022 15:38

Hi all

I'm about to start Evorel Conti patches (this is the first hrt I've taken). I've been reading reviews and note that one of the side effects is weight gain. Has anyone else gained weight on these? Also, how long did it take to feel the benefits? My symptoms are anxiety (so much so that sometimes I can hardly breath), fatigue, extreme mood swings and headaches. Also, I have no interest in anything... Including all the things I usually love to do.. For example socialising, yoga, reading etc. I must admit, there are some days when I just want to drive my car into a wall! 😭

I'm being prescribed evorel conti at the moment and will be starting it soon, hopefully this week. With info from some posters here and reading lots of literature and websites as well as listening to podcasts, mostly Louise Newson, Liz Earle, Davina McCall etc. I've decided to give them a go, mostly for the future health benefits as my symptoms aren't too bad, I don't think.

I've read that the weight gain is negligible, and that they take around 2-3 weeks to start working although I expect these, and the side effects, will differ for everyone.

It's always a little scary taking new medication, but I'm also feeling positive about it.

Been on them for a month and lost 7lbs! No idea why
Had some breakthrough bleeding but that is expected
Not really noticed any benefits but I guess that is longer term

Thank you. I've just put my first patch on. I'm just sick and tired of feeling sick and tired!!

I have been on them for 15+ years! (That makes me feel old but I actually went through early menopause at 43).
I have had no side effects at all and as far as I can remember it probably took a couple of weeks to improve my symptoms. Not sure about weight gain as mine is probably more due to aging. Hope you’re feeling better very soon

If breakthrough bleeding was experienced, can I ask how long after starting that this happened?

@Ginsmything I was diagnosed with early menopause too at 43 after over a year with no period. It took a while for a referral to the menopause clinic but it gave me time to research and get my head around it all. I found it quite amazing the things I didn't really know, or even consider, about my own body and hormones! It's been a learning curve!

@LittleYellowDog that's good to hear, one of the many things I took from watching Davina McCall's programme was that it wasn't so much hrt that caused weight gain or loss, but rather it gave the motivation, want and energy to exercise and make better food choices. That's what I'm hoping for!

Good luck @Ihateboris I hope these are the right ones for you. Hoping this will be the same for me too but I feel they're worth a try, and can always be altered or changed if these particular ones don't suit.

clearsky · 27/04/2022 13:23

No side effects at all here.

SophiaLarsen · 28/04/2022 10:40

hello! I am 44 and have just been prescribed Evorel patches and utrogestan. Thank you all for the feedback on the patches. I am slightly confused about when to start. For the patches it says day 5 of my cycle and for the utrogestan, day 15.

Day 15 of my cycle is tomorrow (I think) so I could start the utrogestan but as it’s to avoid womb lining build up from the patches is it worth taking before I actually start the evorel?! Or should I not take the utrogestan until day 15 of my next cycle which will be 10 days after I start taking the patches?

SedentaryCat · 28/04/2022 10:52

51 and have been on Everol patches for 3 weeks. I have only seen huge benefits - I'm more active, have no more brain fog, I actually have the energy to eat well (rather than grab whatever's there). Another bonus is my daily afternoon naps have dropped to a couple of times a week. I'm starting to feel in control of my life again.

I've lost 5lbs so far. Wish I'd asked for HRT sooner.

SophiaLarsen · 28/04/2022 10:58

That sounds so promising! I identify with you about not having the energy to eat well <looks at rocky road chocolate biscuit cake next to me> and the pull of the afternoon nap!

How are you finding the patches @Ihateboris ?

It's only been a week for me and I know it can take time, but I feel like I've had treble the hot flushes and they're more intense since starting the patches. Google isn't really helping me much! I'm wondering if it's just my body adjusting.

Hi.. Really sorry to hear that you're still having hot flushes. I haven't had a single hot flush for over a week!! I can't believe it. However, I'm still suffering insomnia, so I took some melatonin last night and was able to get some sleep. The most noticeable change for me though, is that my anxiety and depression have gone. I just feel like a cloud has lifted. I really hope that your flushes go.. Maybe give it a few more weeks xx

WhereIsMyGlasses · 07/05/2022 11:29

Thanks @Ihateboris I will give it time, and maybe it was the time my flushes, which weren't too bad, were going to increase so could be coincidence. I need to cut back on caffeine, I don't think that helps!

That's good you feel better, hopefully with time the insomnia goes too. Now that you've mentioned that, I'm possibly sleeping a bit better so that's a positive.

Tinks49 · 19/07/2022 22:24

Hi
I’ve just picked my prescription up for these patches
a little nervous about the weight gain , dizziness and headaches any thing else I need to worry about xx

Nat6999 · 19/07/2022 23:58

I can't get my Evorel patches to stick, I'm lucky if they last 12 hours before dropping off. I've always stuck them on my thigh but recently they just aren't sticky enough.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 20/07/2022 10:07

I was put on Evorel Sequi for a few months but when GP did an email (yes email, not even a phone conversation) I said that I was having a full “period” for the second two weeks of every month (bleed would start just after after applying the second combined patch and continue for two weeks) so she changed me to sequi. I have now been having a “period” for the two weeks I finished I the sequi AND the six weeks since I started the conti. NOT break through bleeding, a full on “medium period flow” bleed. It’s having a big effect on me and DH I have thrush from having to constantly use sanpro with no break and it’s costing me a FORTUNE. I hadn’t bought sanpro for ages and it seems so expensive now. Seriously thinking of stopping the patches ….

QuebecBagnet · 20/07/2022 10:12

I’ve been prescribed them but not started as scared about weight gain so feeling a bit reassured. My symptoms are really only brain fog and uti symptoms

OhIKnow · 20/07/2022 10:15

No side effects and felt results within a few days although the gp had said it would be a few weeks. Never looked back.

drspouse · 20/07/2022 10:27

I was on tablets first - I'm surprised they have put you straight on these as the GP said they usually find the right dose via tablets first.
The tablets sorted out my night sweats and helped my insomnia, then I increased the dose of the tablets as the night sweats came back, now I'm on the patches and it's still the same.

Lisa0205 · 18/04/2023 05:55

I started evorel conti 5 months ago after being on evorel sequi for 18 months. I am feeling much better since I started using it. I have dreadful headaches and these have almost stopped. I am also sleeping better. I have had issues with bleeding though, pretty well constant, finll y stopped now, for now at least, but apparently this can occur whilst your body is getting used to it - healthexpress.co.uk/evorel-conti

Lika53 · 25/09/2023 21:42

Just recently started to use ‘evorel’ patches. I was on tablets and gel
for a while but they are not available regularly, unfortunately! The problem that i have is that the patches do not stay for more than a day!!! I keep the skin free of moisturiser or any product and I even apply extra plaster on top just so it stays on but, it still comes off 😩 it does not stay for the amount of time it’s supposed to ( changing it twice a week). Any tips ?!

Happiestonthebeach · 25/09/2023 22:28

Watching with interest as I’ve put on my first patch this morning. Put it on the top front of my thigh and it’s already looking a bit ragged round the edges.I too don’t use any body moisturiser so not sure why it looks so grim (only had black jeans on and been sat in an office type job) any pearls of wisdom to keep it looking better would be appreciated. I think I’m going to have to experiment with positioning too.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 26/09/2023 16:25

I don’t have trouble keeping my patches on but they do get that nasty grey edge very quickly no matter what I do and then the only thing that gets it the grey off my skin is “Zoff” (or nail varnish remover but that’s not great for the skin).

Lika53 · 28/09/2023 20:49

I even tried to put plasters on top of it, just to keep it in place but, it came off the next day !!😡 I was told by a doctor that: ‘ you can have a shower, swim, …. And you should be ok !!’ My a..!! Not ok 🤷‍♀️ I’m very frustrated that I desperately need it but it’s not working!!!😩

WorkSmarter · 28/09/2023 21:12

So glad I read your post! I normally have Evorel Sequi and have a bleed on the second week but for some reason I was given one box of Conti and 2 of sequi this time! Will have to go to pharmacist to enquire what to do.

Other than that I find the patches stick well, give a set dose (spray before in an opaque bottle so very hit and miss with amounts). All in all mood swings are more even, with more energy but I also have testogel too as been on all sorts of conventions and you need a combo of all 2 plus Vit D to absorb them. I had to teach and insist on with my doctor but you have to start on patches first and see if it agrees so drawn out process. Felt better after about 3-4 weeks of patch.

Felt so much better after just 2 days of Testogel!!

No weight gain. Moods improved. Palpitations stopped. Anxiety stopped. Sweats stopped so on the whole much better.

Long term they help with osteoarthritis etc Good luck. Xxx
