As the title says what age did you go through menopause?
Also was it around the same age as your mother? If you know and how long from the start of peri menopause had you reached menopause and what were symptoms?

OP posts:

  1. Periods stopped. 7 years later no symptoms. Mum was about 52yrs and neither of my sisters (one slightly older and one slightly younger) have been through it yet.
AwayInMyMind · 11/03/2022 11:47

Sorry... havent

Lightning020 · 11/03/2022 18:33

Age 46 perimenopausal. Age 56 periods stopped the same age as my mum was. Now age 58 and for the past year an exceptionally dry mouth and a weak bladder. Weeing 4 times a night. So still some lingering symptoms.

Quornflakegirl · 11/03/2022 18:41

43 and peri menopausal. My mum reached menopause at 55.

JammyCandy · 11/03/2022 18:44

39 and got some symptoms I’m wondering are peri

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 11/03/2022 18:52

Went to the GP about anxiety and palpitations at 36 - ended up with blood tests and being told it was the perimenopause. After 2 years of heavy bleeding, had a hysterectomy at 46.

MayMorris · 11/03/2022 19:01

Started symptoms peri menopause around 43. Reached actual menopause at 52 ( last period) But Still get most menopausal symptoms at 58. Bloody thing won’t end. I still know my hormones are cycling over long periods of times, as sometimes I get 3-4 months symptomless, and think ah ha it’s over . Only to go back to all the crappy symptoms 4 months later that go on for another 5 months. Full works including flushes, sweats, bones aches, fractures, brain fog, UTI and bowel problems. I feel old before my time
I feel like I’ve “done my bit” and it’s stupidly stupid my body just won’t quit it’s hormone cycling. I’m seriously thinking of going to GP and asking for HRT . When I first got symptoms 10 years plus ago GPs were reluctant to prescribe HRT and scared me off. Put me on bloody antidepressants instead…bloody stupid male GP. Took me 2 years to get off them.

MayMorris · 11/03/2022 19:04

Oh, and the bloody stupid anxiety over the most illogical and stupid things. Can wake up in middle of night with intrusive thoughts around anxiety for no real reason.
Then the down moods- I can literally wake up fine…3 hours later I feel almost suicidal…2 days later fine. No reason for it at all. Bonkers.
Whinge whing, moan moan 🙄🙄

47/48 - but that followed surgery removing one ovary - I think the other packed up in protest shortly afterwards!

mrsrobin · 11/03/2022 20:04

Oh and not really any peri symptoms except heavy and more erratic periods.

SunshineCake1 · 11/03/2022 20:05

45

No idea re mother

Five years of peri before definitive diagnosis.

Peri brought on my trauma

fallfallfall · 11/03/2022 20:14

i got really really bitchy when i was 36 my mom started peri early. i was totally done and over by 50.
from 45 to 50 i had some hot flashes (mild short things), my periods were thick and dark although not heavy, and they stretched out i went through about two years of them being every 6 months for example.
oh insomnia yes i have that and i'm pretty dried up...
now i love not having periods, love not having the swollen boobs, less mood swings and simply better quality life. exercise and melatonin helps.

Mossstitch · 11/03/2022 20:19

43 peri and 49 when periods stopped. A year or two during that time hot flushes/night sweats, nothing that wasn't manageable.

mnetting · 11/03/2022 20:26

I think I'm starting to now!
My mum was 42 when her periods stopped and didn't notice any symptoms. I am 38 and my periods are getting erratic when I was always like clock work also lasting over a week now instead of a few days. Although I have heard the covid jab can cause this and I did have covid.
I hope I'm wrong because we were planning another child but after 3 children been trying for two years and nothing so maybe it's too late.

namechanged221 · 11/03/2022 20:28

41 first symptoms.... periods got close together and anxiety, other weird things

47 (now) periods stopped.... so far 2 months with no periods and hot flushes all day and night.

Just started hrt gel and hoping for improvement soon xx

Lunaballoonabear · 11/03/2022 20:29

Dm was 53 I’ve been period free since age 50 now 52 I think peri probably started around 45. Had a nasty period of constant bleeding age 47 where I bled solidly for 6 weeks then kind of that was it, the odd bleed but nothing nasty.

I had surgery in my late 30s that would have affected my ability to feed a baby and I do wonder if that brought it on earlier.

Midlifemusings · 11/03/2022 20:29

47 and only symptom so far is irritability. Periods are not quite as regular as they have been all my life but are still pretty regular. Had some night sweats but they resolved with thyroid treatment.

Clarabe1 · 11/03/2022 20:33

Started peri around 45 and went on HRT at 48 when periods started to get erratic and the sweats got unbearable. My mums periods stopped aged 55 and she had a pretty rough ride. Her sisters periods stopped at age 39 and she had no symptoms at all!

hiredandsqueak · 11/03/2022 20:37

46, three months of hot flushes, two periods that were heavier than normal then nothing. Eight years later no symptoms at all. Mother died at 48 but had been having regular periods.

ShellieEllie · 11/03/2022 20:39

52 and no sign of peri yet.

Choux · 11/03/2022 20:40

Around 34-35 periods started becoming erratic with sometimes months between them. Diagnosed with premature ovarian failure at 38. Barely had a period after the age of 40. No other symptoms.

Mum was 34 when my sibling was born. Afterwards her periods never restarted and she was told she wouldn't have any more kids. Almost two years later she went to the doctor as she felt dreadful all the time. The doctor diagnosed pregnancy (with me). She hadn't had a period since her last birth and didn't have any after I was born. Like me she never had any other symptoms of menopause.

Firefliess · 11/03/2022 20:41

DM was about 42 and said it was the best thing ever happened to her as she'd suffered with PMT all her adult life. She became more stable emotionally and doesn't recall any bad symptoms at all. I'm 47 and no sign at all of it yet. Periods have become slightly more frequent and regular the last few years.

MadameTuffington2 · 11/03/2022 20:57

Going through perimenopause now age 51 - started about 2 years ago - periods still regular but much lighter with nasty headaches then no period for 3 months to be followed by severe muscle cramps in upper legs at night.

Period came back - bleeding profusely with gross clots for 8 weeks at a time - no pain, hot flushes or mood swings but random achey joints and periodontal disease that is making me lose teeth so when my friends say my skin looks great, I’m slim and aren’t I lucky not to have flushes, I remind them I lost 7 teeth in the last 2 years and dentist says more will go due to hormone fluctuations - only small number of women deal with this - dentures here I come, happy days :)))

Mum had menopause aged 59 - I suspect mine is imminent. I find healthy diet, exercise and PMA helps :))

lljkk · 11/03/2022 21:08

I am mid50s. Don't think I can say Peri has arrived much less menop

When she was early 50s (~1992) my mother said she had decided against HRT. That is only conversation I recall ever having about her menopause -- she passed away 10 years later so no further info.

WhiteCatmas · 11/03/2022 21:10

Maybe a relevant bit is when your periods started?
