Started on 2 x Utrogestan this week & feeling filled with anxiety at night to the extent that I was in tears last night.

I'm a bit torn now as the oestrogen has been really helping up to this point.

Will it pass? Anyone else had this?

I have nit really experienced anxiety like this before. It's horrible.

(Not - not nit!)

It made me tired but not anxious

PeriChristmas · 28/10/2021 05:35

I stopped taking it all. Couldn't bring myself to keep going. I am seeing a doctor next week to discuss my options.
I'm gutted because the oestrogen was great for me.
Anyone else out there had this problem???

The option is to use it vaginally. That's what private consultants who are experts suggest.

PeriChristmas · 29/10/2021 10:41

Does anyone have any experience of trying this?

If you mean vaginally, yes. For ages. My consultant prefers women to try to use it that way. It goes straight where it's needed to the womb via the cervix. It avoids the liver and digestive issues , and also it bypasses the brain, so no mood swings.
PeriChristmas · 29/10/2021 21:34

Do you take a specific type of progesterone pessary? Jingling?

It's exactly the same as the one you have- it can be used orally or vaginally.

You just insert it with your finger as high as you can reach - 2 capsules for the number of days you should use it.

Hi I switched to using progesterone vaginally as well due to the side effects. My HCP just gave me a plastic applicator which TBH I could have bought on line and I use it to shove the tablets up there Smile

Sounds promising! Has it make a big difference @Puppylucky ?

Do they completely dissolve?

SilverGlassHare · 29/10/2021 22:09

It made me FURIOUS. Then I tried another kind that made me very depressed. Next month it’s back to Utrogestan but taken vaginally - hopefully I’ll feel like neither killing myself nor my poor husband.

I haven’t got an applicator though! I was just going to shove it up there.

Melassa · 29/10/2021 22:10

I also use it vaginally, I’m on the continent and it is the norm here. Same tablets you can take orally.

No side effects except for a good night’s sleep. They do dissolve and yes, some can fall out the next morning when you go for a wee, but on the whole they stay up there.

Puppylucky · 29/10/2021 22:59

HCP=Dr or nurse Yes they completely dissolve as far as I'm aware but I do it last thing anyway. And yes it's made a big difference to how able I am to tolerate it. No more murderous rage!

Fuckingfuckssake · 29/10/2021 23:05

I actually want them to make me sleepy, would you still get that effect?

Konyeshno · 30/10/2021 00:11

Wait. The same tablets you swallow can be taken vaginally?! 🤯 No dosage adjustment or anything? Do you need a GP clearance to do it that way, or just try it out yourself? I use Evorel 100 patches and medroxyprogesterone acetate (Provera) days 15-28 of cycle.

We're talking about Utrogestan, not Provera. That may be very different. I don't think you can do this with provera.

Utrogestan is used vaginally for fertility treatment too .

No that's the whole point- it bypasses the brain/ nervous system to they are not sedative.
JinglingHellsBells · 30/10/2021 08:29

No. You may find you need to wear pants as night as there is a slight residue.

You don't need an applicator.

I was given an applicator but found it wasn't really helpful.

Jng1 · 30/10/2021 08:37

When I took utrogestan orally it gave me crushing migraines and sent me into such a deep sleep that I ended up damaging a nerve in my shoulder overnight which took over a year to heal.
I wish I’d known about the vaginal route. I’m sort of too scared to try again now!

Thanks @Melassa good to know.

Ok weird thought has occurred:

What about having sex then? Presumably that has to happen first before shoving them up there?

Would it be absorbed by one's partners when DTD? Hmm

This thread is giving me hope thank you all so much for sharing your experiences.

I had the mist amazing effect on my body after one day of stating on oestrogen - all aches & pains better! Honestly I just woke up after day 1 and it was like my whole body had relaxed. I jumped out of bed without staggering around like an old lady for the first time in a couple of years.

It hadn't even occurred to me that this feeling could be hormone related.

Then after 2 days of taking the oral progesterone I felt like I was about to have a panic attack. All day. My stomach was incredibly bloated. I didn't want anyone to touch me. I was very teary. So just had to stop.

All aches and pains are back now. I would love to take the oestrogen again if I can. I am going to wait until day one to start over again. Crossing all my fingers & toes this works! 🤞🤞🤞
