About to start HRT

Well I've finally convinced my doctor to give me a prescription.
She said to start on day 1 of my cycle. So waiting for that now. Will be another 3 weeks.

Anyone else at the start of trying HRT & want to compare notes?

No, but I’m considering it so I’ll jump in here !

missfliss · 16/09/2021 13:21

Hello ! I will!
Mines on its way in the post - hopefully arriving tomorrow.

I'm 44 and have been prescribed oestrogen gel and progesterone tablets

PeriChristmas · 16/09/2021 15:38

Hello @GoodnightGrandma & @missfliss 👋👋👋

I'm 45 & have finally persuaded my doctor to prescribe the same @missfliss.

I've had so many symptoms associated with peri. Will be really intrigued to see if it helps! 🤞

Hi @PeriChristmas - I've been on combined pill for years since I first had symptoms at 39... but new, more frequent emerging symptoms since 1-2 years ago.

I bypassed my slightly rubbish GP and went to the newson clinic and after 3 months wait finally had my consultation with a doctor there today.

Funnily enough I feel ok today, on Monday though the fatigue was awful and I could have cried!

I'm so happy to have an opportunity to feel better. Will be nice to have someone to go through it with

Wombat96 · 16/09/2021 16:02

I'm just starting gel & coil. Feel better just from the coil change, as it was way out of date.

MistandMud · 16/09/2021 16:25

I've been trying it for about 6 weeks.

I don't itch any more! I hadn't even realised that dry, itchy skin all over was a menopause symptom.

I'm also no longer having to change tops multiple times a day from hot flushes. I wasn't expecting things to change so rapidly.

Pretty happy with it, all in all. Fatter, but happy.

Great news about the other changes though! 👍👍👍

I was hoping it might give me more energy to help lose some weight!

OP posts:
MistandMud · 16/09/2021 17:27

Well, I'm sleeping all/most of the night instead of rambling round the house in a fuming sweaty state, which might explain it!

Definitely have a bit more energy. I just need to translate that into more running and less feeling cheerful with cake, I think.

Sleeping all through sounds amazing! Smile

I know! The sleeplessness had gradually crept up to the point that I was barely getting an hour at a time. I’ve no idea how I was functioning, tbh.

PeriChristmas · 17/09/2021 06:01

Really hoping it might help with my digestive issues, sore joints & mood swings too 🤞

Mine arrived this morning :-)

missfliss · 17/09/2021 10:05

I've started with the gel - two pumps rubbed to inner thighs.

Have to use the utrogestan tablets on days 12-24 of cycle

PeriChristmas · 17/09/2021 10:50

Are you starting on day 1 of your cycle?

OP posts:
missfliss · 17/09/2021 11:20

No - I can start straight away. Days 12-25 are when I will take utrogestan

PeriChristmas · 17/09/2021 18:26

I was confused when my Dr said to start taking it on day one of my cycle for 25 days. But then said I could take it straight away. She didn't seem very clued up to be honest!

OP posts:
PeriChristmas · 17/09/2021 18:27

And I've really had to push her into letting me try it 🙄

OP posts:
missfliss · 17/09/2021 18:50

What HRT is it @PeriChristmas ?
Mine is seperate gel ( oestrogel) for every day and then progesterone tablets ( utrogestan) for days 12-25 of my cycle.
So I am using the gel now - but won't start utrogestan until day 12 of next cycle

SusannaM · 17/09/2021 20:26

I used my first patch last night, actually slept through. Joint pain in my fingers had gone when I woke! But knees and legs still achy and I'm sat here now with what feels like period cramping, my periods are irregular, but haven't had cramps for many years 🤔

missfliss · 17/09/2021 20:31

Interesting Susanna - I've of course been googling away and most advice seems to be will take a few weeks to have any noticeable effects, possibly longer into months

missfliss · 20/09/2021 09:36

How's everyone getting on?
I'm a bit tired and headachey today - but I haven't woken in the night for a wee for about 3 nights in a row - so I think that's progress?

badgerread · 20/09/2021 13:35

Oooooo can I join? I'm 50 (10 weeks today 😃) and have been having peri symptoms for a few years now. My periods have been regular up until the last one which was 9 days late. My mood swings are awful, my joints ache/hurt and I have zero sex drive 🙄
I have a telephone consultation with my GP Wednesday afternoon. Fingers crossed!
