Anyone used Dr Wolff's vagisan pessary? Have bought it from Amazon but a bit scared about putting something there - eek!

Gothichouse40 · 01/09/2021 01:41

Vagisan is very good. You can buy it in cream and I think they now do a moisturiser for external area too. Ive heard

Has anyone tried flax seed oil as a vaginal moisturiser post menopause? I have read good things about it.

JinglingHellsBells · 23/04/2022 13:36

Is there a reason you want to try flaxseed oil rather than estrogen cream?

It might add some lubrication but it doesn't treat the underlying issue.

@Grandadwasthatyou Have you read up on testosterone - sample of one (two if you include DH) but it’s transformed my libido.

@JinglingHellsBells I'm 5 years past the menopause and honestly, I'm not sure I can be arsed with explaining to the GP's receptionist, then the young male GP that my issue is vaginal dryness. It's a minor issue that I'd rather sort with OTC cream or natural remedies if I can.

You don't need to tell the receptionist. Say it's personal matter and wish to discuss with the dr. Don't be embarrassed about it- it's a very common issue and even young male drs will have heard it all before- or will have some time ! Unfortunately, OTC treatments don't work and the topical estrogen is very natural (it's just replacing your own with a minute dose to the skin.)

Also, although it's minor now, it may get worse and cause bigger problems which get harder to put right once it's really established.

Seriously, pluck up the courage to sort it properly.

You might find it helpful to read My Menopausal Vagina by Jane Lewis (not a dr just an 'ordinary woman' who has written about her long experience on this ) and her book is now in many drs' surgeries.

Reading up on Vagisan it says you can apply it several times a day. WTF who has the time to do that plus its £15 a tube. tried it Did the square root of fuck all. Despite using this and applying regularly plus lube PIV still hurt. Like razor blades Im 48. i was applying Vagisan every day after my bath.

I don't see the point in messing around with that kind of stuff when there are products that actually work! If you are suffering, see your Dr and get topical estrogen which will actually work. These other creams are useless mainly and TBH they are bought often because women are too embarrassed to discuss with a male dr, or they are unaware that there is no risk and topical estrogen is not actually HRT. If women were brave and sought out proper treatment, the companies making these creams wouldn't exist.

@JinglingHellsBells Thanks for the tip

Not sure where you have seen that . It's not true. I started it 15 years ago, in peri, from a meno consultant.

They even give it to breastfeeding women who sometimes have low estrogen and sore vaginas.

And very old ladies in their 90s.

@JinglingHellsBells That is information i can now arm myself with when i go to the appointment im going to make. Just in case i do come up against a bit of a wall. Thank You.

Hi folks,
I have been in menopause for 10 years and just recently have pain down below, it's like a really bad period pain, no blood and a bloated tummy! I have not been intimate with my husband in years as it's too painful 😣 Do you think this is just dryness? I know my last smear test was very painful as well.

maclen · 02/10/2024 22:51

Does this happen to everyone??
