It's come up as because another poster is , like me, tired of seeing women unaware of the NICE guidelines and GPs not working with them.

If the guidelines were pinned here at the top of the page, it would be very helpful and I wouldn't need - with other posters- to spend so long repeating them.

If enough women ask MNHQ we might get somewhere.

Agreed. Would love the Gransnet basic piece up here too. As a Mumsnet piece!

JinglingHellsBells · 22/02/2020 06:57

Some of the Gransnet piece was incorrect. I did email MNHQ to discuss (I am a health writer) and not sure if they changed it. Think it was around the length of time HRT can be taken or something...it was out of date, anyway.

BillieEilish · 25/02/2020 16:51

I second this.
100%

Please put the NICE guidelines (up to date ones) at the top of this thread.

Please. Mumsnet should be about trying to conceive, conceiving and then childcare and the menopause. All the stages of being a mum, basically.

People can make up their own minds, print out the guidelines, read the guidelines (which GP's often have not read), ask the GP with sound information in their hands.

JinglingHellsBells · 25/02/2020 18:12

Thanks @BillieEilish

Please everyone, if you read this thread ask MNHQ to pin these guidelines here.

If I had a £ for every time I'd quoted the NICE guidance I'd be very rich:)

There are women using this site for help and on average I'd say 50% at least are being given incorrect treatment from GPs.

GPs get no meno training other than a 2 hr lecture or something during med school. It's then up to them to invest or not in meno and HRT training once qualfied.

Having the NICE stuff to read and discuss is going to help them.

Absolutely agree with this @MNHQ www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng23

DramaAlpaca · 25/02/2020 23:51

I agree with this. The more knowledge women have about the menopause, the better.

@MNHQ would you consider this please.

Notthebloodygym · 26/02/2020 09:59

One thing I didn't notice was that post menopausal women should have more calcium in their diet:

www.bda.uk.com/resource/calcium.html

daisychicken · 26/02/2020 10:05

Yes please, we should be talking about the menopause and the more information easily accessible the better @MNHQ

Abraid2 · 26/02/2020 10:07

@MNHQ Please take note.

stoptherideiwanttogetoff · 26/02/2020 20:31

Absolutely agree!

JinglingHellsBells · 28/02/2020 08:47

Can we have a bit more of push with this?

I see there is a pinned post on pensions now here-- why not NICE info?

OP posts:
HorseradishSnowflake · 28/02/2020 08:49

Yes they need to be posted mumsnet!

anunseemlylovefordustin · 28/02/2020 08:50

Absolutely agree! It's taken me two years of fumbling about and false starts and conflicting advice from the gp to finally start on HRT a couple of weeks ago. I feel like a new woman, and it makes me sad that it took me so long to battle to get here. Please Mumsnet, pin the guidelines!

MadameGazelleIsMyHomegirl · 28/02/2020 08:51

Totally agree!

Orangeblossom78 · 28/02/2020 08:56

Is this guideline up to date?

We checked this guideline in December 2019 and we are updating it.

any idea when that will be complete?

borntobequiet · 28/02/2020 08:57

@MNHQ totally agree

Seeline · 28/02/2020 09:01

@MNHQ
That would be a brilliant idea!

Even a link to the correct page would be a start, but in full would be great.

So many women on the Meno threads would appreciate this.

Puppywithattitude · 28/02/2020 09:31

Is it worth repeating this post on site stuff? It might get seen/responded to by MNHQ more quickly?

Orangeblossom78 · 28/02/2020 09:41

It's a bit confusing to be honest as it says it is being updated (the advice)

JinglingHellsBells · 28/02/2020 09:43

Is this guideline up to date? YES.

We checked this guideline in December 2019 and we are updating it.
WHO ARE 'WE'?

any idea when that will be complete? DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS. IT IS COMPLETE

@Orangeblossom78 Can I ask who 'we' are in your post please? Are you MNHQ?

The NICE meno guide was published in Nov 2015.
That is the latest and most up to date.

It was the first major study/ report into diagnosis and treatment of menopause for a very long time and was years in the writing.
It's unlikely there will be another one soon.

Sadly even though it was 5 years ago, many GPs have not read it.

If you want other more up to date information the British Menopause Society has a website which is in 'real time' as far as announcements go.

OP posts:
JinglingHellsBells · 28/02/2020 09:52

@Orangeblossom78 If you go to the link someone left, you can link again on NICE to this

www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng23/resources/2019-surveillance-of-menopause-diagnosis-and-management-nice-guideline-ng23-7015806541/chapter/Surveillance-decision?tab=evidence

The update is for 2 things:
-other additional treatments for VA (on a cost/effectiveness basis)
-a statement on the research published in the Lancet August 2019 and the MRHA statement around that.

The latter has been discussed on the BMS website and on the website of dr Louise Newson.

Basically, they are trying to interpret that report as it contradicts a lot of other research.

As a result of that report, Drs (GPs) were told to make women aware of the risks of HRT re breast cancer and this created a scare/ panic.
Many women received letters asking them to see their GP about their HRT.

Although this aspect of the NICE guideline is being updated, the information most women need is not changing, especially around diagnosis and first line use of HRT (not ADs.)

OP posts:
JinglingHellsBells · 28/02/2020 09:54

It's a bit confusing to be honest as it says it is being updated (the advice)

@Orangeblossom78

No, it's only confusing if you don't click on the link they include which illustrates which parts are being updated.

The general advice in the current guidance will not change.

OP posts:
Orangeblossom78 · 28/02/2020 10:06

I'm not MNHQ

I cut and paste from the link- it says being updated due to some change in advice in 1999. I'm unsure what it meant, if anyone could explain would be grateful. Thanks.

PS I simply clicked on the link in start of this post to the NICe guidance it says (cut and paste_

In December 2019, in response to an MHRA safety alert on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and the risk of breast cancer, we replaced the table in the recommendation on breast cancer risk with a link to the MHRA's advice on HRT risks and benefits. We will also update this recommendation as part of the planned update to the guideline

and then later

*Is this guideline up to date?

We checked this guideline in December 2019 and we are updating it*

Orangeblossom78 · 28/02/2020 10:07

Thank you for explaining

Orangeblossom78 · 28/02/2020 10:08

Jingling well, 'we' I suppose is NICE considering they are the ones saying that? in the guidance.
