Not just the well documented meno symptoms but the little things happening to you that you can only attribute to the peri/menopause years
So starting with the obvious....
Chronic early morning wakening up
The hot flushes
Bleeding gums
Hair thinning
What feel like period pains but no period ever appears
Aching back
Aching shoulders
Headaches that would rival any hangover
Constipation then loose stools the back to constipation
Dry mouth
Weird burning crawling sensations on skin
Really dry skin plus the odd crop of spots
Anxiety around stuff that would never normally bother you
Weight gain despite eating healthier than previously
Low tolerance to alcohol
Chin hair
Forgetting names and words mid sentence or using the wrong word
Despite being blonde sprouting some really thick black hair around my hairline.
Anything else?

Soak and sleep, when there’s an offer/discount

Thanks

Was feeling pretty crap but this thread has cheered me a bit (thanks ladies). i am 49 and 5 months ago diagnosed as post menopausal after five years of hell my doc put down to work related anxiety. i've now stopped the pill and started regular periods. main issues from five years ago to now are:
hot flushes - horrendous in morning before work and in last couple of years have reappeared a lot more through the day
anxiety - work and social situations
tight chest and shallow breathing
a "stress" cough - my chest gets tighter the more anxious i feel and i start coughing
the latest - since i stopped the pill (where i didn't have a period) i have since June had monthly, super regular, no problem periods. accompanied on the first morning by something i can only liken to a strong horrible adrenaline rush where i pour with sweat, feel sick and then have to be sick, and diarrhoea, all at the same time. once it's all out i feel a bit better but it was bad enough this morning that i am now typing this message.

i haven't seen anyone here or found anything online about this adrenaline rush thing - it's 4 months in a row on the first day of my suddenly reappearing period - must be related.
good luck everyone.

PhonicTheHedgehog · 07/10/2019 17:54

Oh! I have something similar to the adrenaline rush in that my period starts and I feel really ill, just for say 10-30 minutes. Shaky and diarrhoea and light headed. I’ve had the added joy of the worst hemorrhoids too.

Can you be post menopause if you’re having periods?

Outsomnia · 07/10/2019 18:31

Hello to the coven!

Like many of you I had the flushes and insomnia. Insomnia sorted now don't know why but I take a magnesium tab with warm milk going to bed now. Maybe it helped. Thus my username!

The one thing I have now is anxiety whilst eating. I feel I cannot swallow and will choke. It has ruined a lot of my enjoyment of life. Docs checked, and put it down to anxiety, but just advised deep breathing and relaxation, huh, yep I tried all that and it didn't work!

I honestly feel ok mostly apart from that. Going to try a hypnosis/psychotherapist soon to see if anything can be done. Even drinking a glass of water can make me gag. But I do get some food down and take lots of supplements, haven't lost any weight, so must be getting nutrition from somewhere!

I suffered a lot of the symptoms mentioned above, but this eating anxiety is killing me. Never had an issue with this until meno hit. My girth proved it!

Laiolo · 07/10/2019 19:32

Phonic thanks. Mine lasts about 3 hrs. Calms after I’m sick but stayed nauseous and hot flushes all day. Yeah back to doc for me. Though if this turns out to be misdiagnosed anxiety and I have the menopause still to come...yuk. But doc was sure due to oestrogen levels.

Thanks again good to know I’m not the only one.

LlamaofDrama · 07/10/2019 19:57

I'm another fan of St John's Wort for anxiety. I have it in combination with black cohosh for night sweats which appears to deliver precisely bugger all results, but the anxiety is massively improved.

Other symptoms include sore boobs for at least 2 weeks in 4, struggle to lose weight. Periods had settled for a while at 17 to 19 days apart but recently have been nearer 28 days. Menobrain and inability to learn stuff. And the insomnia is hell. It's the worst thing.

Outsomnia · 07/10/2019 20:04

What is the dosage of St.John's Wort please, that has worked for you. Thanks.

Outsomnia · 07/10/2019 20:05

That should have read St. John's Wort.

icanbewhatiwant · 07/10/2019 20:33

It's interesting reading all these symptoms. About 5 years ago I wore a heart monitor for 24 hours. My heart would suddenly, randomly thump out of rhythm for 5 or 6 beats. Sometimes it feels like it has moved up to my chest and I have to cough to get it back into rhythm. Sometimes I get it for several months then it stops going out of rhythm. Anyway, I was told nothing was wrong. I'm now wondering if it was peri menopause. I get the weird feet thing someone spoke of too, they really hurt for about 10 steps when I first get up then fine.
I go through phases where I sleep really badly. Often waking at 3am and not getting back to sleep.
My memory has been bad for several years, I forget names, where I'm going and once I hid my sons iPad and it was missing 2 months as I couldn't remember where I hid it 🤣
Until recently periods have been regular, though often heavy for a couple of days.
I had my last period on 2nd August. Nothing since. I had 2 months of bad hot flushes, every half hour or so. They were worst at night. Daytime I found them easier to ignore.
But now they've gone. What was that all about? I'm sure they will return, probably with a vengeance.

icanbewhatiwant · 07/10/2019 20:36

Oh and the weight. I don't eat desert, cakes, I don't drink alcohol. I do like a biscuit with my tea and the odd bit of chocolate. I've even given those up, but still gaining weight. I usually walk at least 2 miles a day, often 5. It's very depressing.

PhonicTheHedgehog · 07/10/2019 20:43

I can’t have that black cohosh. I can’t remember which of my illnesses prohibits it!

My feet don’t work in the mornings!

I wake up at 3 am. Or 5am. Or if I’m lucky I manage both.

ssd · 07/10/2019 20:58

Agree with so much here

Can I just ask, when you say anxiety, how do you feel? I've always been a worrier but I worry now about ever last thing and I dread the future and getting old.

ssd · 07/10/2019 21:00

Also, I work on my feet all day and my god are they sore at the end of the day. This is a recent thing, since being over 50. Not my joints, the flats of my feet. Anyone else found this z

ssd · 07/10/2019 21:24

Oh, and eyebrow hairs that are grey and stick out 😳
I look like Dennis Healey

icanbewhatiwant · 08/10/2019 07:08

I am ok for grey hairs. I have a few near my temples, but not very noticeable. I'm late 40's.

Trewser · 08/10/2019 07:12

Sure all of these have been said but

Plantar fasciitis (gone with hrt)
Joint aches
Awful moods
Feeling lost and confused
Finding it almost impossible to make decisions
Hot flushes
Loss of motivation
Lack of interest in appearance

All improved MASSIVELY with hrt

Trewser · 08/10/2019 07:13

@ssd see my post!

ssd · 08/10/2019 07:14

I just did!!

Just feels a bit extreme to go on hrt for sore feet though?

Trewser · 08/10/2019 07:33

I didn't, didnt even think about it. Went with hot flushes but sore feet disappeared after a month! Marvellous.

ssd · 08/10/2019 07:35

I don't get anything too bad except sore feet so I don't really need to go on it yet. Getting rid of sore feet must be marvellous

Trewser · 08/10/2019 10:14

I'd had sore feet for 3 years, so since I was about 48. Yes absolutely marvellous. Makes me feel so much happier.

ssd · 08/10/2019 10:36

Thanks, that's so interesting. Makes me feel a bit less weird.

icanbewhatiwant · 08/10/2019 10:40

@Trewser I diagnosed myself with what I thought was plantar fiscitis is it related to menopause? It's gone away for a while but sometimes the arches of my feet are so painful. I still get stuff feet abs ankles in the morn for a few steps.

Trewser · 08/10/2019 11:03

Well even my gp thought i was talking bollocks, so clearly its not a Recognised Thing. But it's been a life changer for me.
