Brilliant, what a relief for you 🙂

I have had a period since the second week in May. The HRT I have been given is a replacement for one which is no longer available. My life is sliding down into exhaustion, mental fog and joint pain. I have been referred to a Gynae unit but I think it is all down to the HRT change.

Hope everyone is well.

A solid 3 weeks and a few days have passed since they took my biopsy - they said they would only contact me if there was anything serious...I think I feel confident enough to stop worrying now and assume there weren't cancerous cells 😊 fist pump

The hysteroscopy itself, mentioned upthread, was absolutely horrendous and I wish I'd had the general anaesthetic they offered. Local anaesthetic just didn't cut the mustard. Jeez. And I thought I was fine with most pain. I go back in early October to discuss the adenomyosis doc was sussing out during it.

In the meantime, the periods continue horrendous and the anaemia is still a killer.

I had an endometrial ablation, novosure, in June and it has been brilliant. I had had periods 32 days long, having to wake up in the night to change protection as the bleeding was, to quote my gynaecologist ‘torrential’. I had one particularly bloody day in which I didn’t last 20 minutes. Anyway they couldn’t do a hysteroscopy without a GA as it was too painful and I was admitted for the novosure ablation as day surgery.

Welliesandpyjamas · 31/08/2019 10:40

Did they try you with hormonal options or any medication before that, @LizziesTwin ? I have read that they often go through the less invasive options first.

LizziesTwin · 31/08/2019 11:01

I had already been using tranexamic acid & mefanic acid (think those are correct terms). When the gynaecologist tried to do a hysteroscopy with me conscious she couldn’t, I have quite loose ligaments and I think she couldn’t get my cervix in the right position (smear tests have been v hard to do since I entered my 40s). They offered me a mirena but it would have been very hard to insert & as there are areas of adenomyosis & endometriosis they really wanted to do a hysteroscopy and offered to insert the mirena when I was out. I suggested the ablation as I know I’m not going to have any more children (tubal ligation) and didn’t want to take the risk of having a bad experience with the mirena. I am very aware of hormonal changes in my body and have told everyone that I’m not willing to have any long lasting hormonal treatment as I get angry/miserable enough already.

You sound like my twin, @LizziesTwin (and my name isn’t even Lizzie). I have been given both those medications to try and won’t ever go back toanything hormonal after feeling very miserable on them in my younger years. I have my post hysteroscopy appointment in a few weeks and am curious to know how long they need me to have been on that medication to decide if it is helping or not. I have had my tubes tied after 3 c-sections so anything more invasive would not bother me at all as long as I can feel more normal again, stop getting totally drained by the iron deficiencythat comes from these heavy periods. There are times when I feel so down about it that I know I have to cut back on how much work I do just to live with it.

LizziesTwin · 31/08/2019 16:40

You poor thing. The medicines didn't do enough for me, they did work better than nothing but I was still bleeding dramatically enough for life to be difficult. I am quite mouthy so just told people that I was having a horrible period and would just leave meetings etc as I needed to. I found builders were much more sympathetic than white collar workers. I have friends for whom the ablation wasn't enough and they ended up having hysterectomies. I told the consultant on the morning of my procedure that I was very happy to have a hysterectomy if they saw any need and she said that they wouldn't switch from a minor procedure to a major op once they'd started. I thought I'd be able to cope with the hysteroscopy but it started to make me feel sick so I said stop. I had 3 children all over 8lbs and no pain relief in labour so thought I was tough but no, clearly not. I think I am less out of breath than I was in June, I think I'd like to pay for a blood test out of curiousity, my ferritin level was down to 5 in March.

PineappleFwitters · 01/09/2019 15:01

I've just finished another period - not a 4 week horror like I had before but just the usual length. It was much heavier than it's ever been though, and I had to buy tampons in absorbencies I didn't even know existed before! I'm also very very tired. Am seeing the doctor in a couple of weeks to get the results of my blood tests so will see what her conclusion is.

Zzzexhaustedzzz · 01/09/2019 19:44

Hi - I have had this. Now turned 45. Had scans showing nothing. Periods have lasted weeks and weeks and then gone very heavy too. Ten days of Norithisterone stops them on day 1 and then seems to re set my cycle. Weird. It is what they use for HRT.

PineappleFwitters · 05/09/2019 13:37

I got a call from the GP today to tell me that my blood test results show increased FSH levels, which means that I am indeed perimenopausal at the least. She's referring me to the gynae clinic and told me to think about HRT. I have no other menopausal symptoms though, so I'm not sure if I should take HRT. Then again, I know it's advisable if you're under 50. I'm paranoid about putting weight on though!!
