Hi OP and previous posters too 👋

I came on here intending to start a thread about this very subject and saw this one so thanks OP for getting it started.

I'm 46. About 4 years ago this started happening to me so got a mirena fitted. It was excellent for the first 2.5 years- no periods and felt great.

Then they started coming back (not bad, I was just surprised) so I went to the GP who couldn't find the threads so ordered a scan.

Scan located the coil but also found lots of fibroids (which had pushed the coil out of place) and also a biggish ovarian cyst.

So now under care of gynaecologist, who's advising not rushing into anything but regular monitoring to make sure the cyst / fibroids aren't growing too quickly.

I'll probably need surgery at some point but the plan is to leave it as long as possible so it doesn't push me into early menopause (I may lose only remaining ovary in the process).

I have regular (3-6 monthly) intravaginal ultrasound scans and afterwards I bleed really heavily for 3-4 weeks, plus massive clots and flooding. It's bonkers!

The rest of the time weird erratic periods but not too bad.

Really up for talking to other women going through similar!!

Thesuzle · 07/07/2019 11:07

Been there done that
I had mefalanic acid and transamic acid (might be spelt wrongly no longer have the bottles). One of which cuts the pain the other the excessive bleeding
Also if you are done with having children go and ask for a microwave ablation. Seals you off nicely inside no more periods. Bets thing i ever did

BlackSwan · 07/07/2019 16:58

What is having the microwave ablation like Thesuzle? Is it painful? What’s the down time?
Does it affect you ovaries or just the lining?

PineappleFwitters · 08/07/2019 06:54

Mine has finally finished, it's been over 3 weeks. I feel I need to celebrate by wearing a white dress or something!

Mrslotus · 08/07/2019 10:15

@AppleCiderVinegar @Thesuzle @PineappleFwitters ..

So informative ! Thanks to all ! Keep your comments pouring ! Its good eye opener .
Mine was finished on 13th of June after 3 weeks . Now started on 3rd of July . I am really going how long this time they last and go from there. Will keep you updated .
We need women support a lot on these issues . It seems no deal for the world but we know but we are going through emotionally and physically.
Big hugs to all who have posted to this thread.

I just had a chat with my Mum about the whole scenario . She lives abroad so never get the chance to speak about this . Called her specifically to shed some light on this. My mom told me that she had the same for 5-6 years this kinda long periods from the age of 42 till 50 . There were no specific dates of period and cycle reduced to 20-21 days at some point . Many of her friends had the same . Bleeding went some times heavy . Periods were short at times but long at most times .
This chat has relieved me a lot and has removed the pressure from my head. As all my blood tests came fine . Apart from i need to boast my iron a bit for a while .

Hope this thread helps many of us .

It just seems so mean spirited of human nature - why longer, heavier more frequent. Want more info re the ablation procedure.

beethebee · 08/07/2019 22:41

I just finished a bugger of a 3-weeker too.

Nobody flipping warned me about this!!!

loopeelou2 · 09/07/2019 21:25

Just finished an 11 day period on a shortened cycle of 22 days 😕 I think this is the start of Perimenopause, the lack of sleep and night sweats are the worst 😕

PineappleFwitters · 09/07/2019 22:22

Well I thought my period was over but now the bleeding appears to have started up again. WTAF??😭

beethebee · 10/07/2019 01:02

Ugh I haven't had the night sweats but I'm suddenly ridiculously insomniac. Sooooo annoying.

BlackSwan · 10/07/2019 17:08

Had night sweats two nights running. It’s official. Sad

AlwaysaLittleBitTired · 10/07/2019 17:25

Hi ladies - I was looking at similar posts too.

I am 41, and my cycles are currently all over the place. Shortened for the last couple of years, to an average of 23 days but range from 18 to 28 days, with heavier bleeding than I am used to (although only for 5-7 days). I have also recognised hot flushes starting Blush. My hair is dry and falling out more, and I am achy and tired. Had full bloods done for thyroid/iron levels recently, which are all fine. I am also bloody irritable! Anybody else notice changes with their hair?

My DM went through early menopause at this age, but she had a hysterectomy in her mid-thirties, so early MP was to be expected.

What a nightmare to think I could have another 10 years of this ahead of me....nobody warned us about perimenopause!

Mrslotus · 10/07/2019 19:52

Ohhh @PineappleFwitters Not nice that again with in week !!

Mine started on 3rd of July and finished by 9th of July ! Relieved for now . But not sure for how long though ! I really want to have monitoring chart from now on.

Also Hair fall is happening for the last 2-3 years ! Irritable / sweaty all !

Mrslotus · 10/07/2019 19:56

@AlwaysaLittleBitTired Thanks for Update ! I have exactly the same for the last 2 yrs or so ! But more evident now all the symptoms. Thats why started the thread .
As i wanted to know from others women about their experiences . Perimenopause is a alien word to me ! Wish some one discussed that with me before .

Good to have all your support 😊

I was exactly the same at 42 it's so draining. I had the novosure microwave ablation (as mentioned by earlier poster) recommended by lots of friends. Best thing ever did not had a period since having it done couple years ago.

BlackSwan · 10/07/2019 20:26

What happens in the ablation procedure? What about after / do you get symptoms of getting your period (moods etc) but no period??

Mrslotus · 10/07/2019 22:01

Pls . Explain Ablation procedure pre and post effects .

OP posts:
beethebee · 11/07/2019 03:21

Yes I'd love to hear about ablation too. Do you have to have a general anaesthetic? I really hate them.

Sunnydaymum · 11/07/2019 03:45

Sorry to gate-crash but I have been looking for some advice on being peri menopausal. I have the opposite issue...over the last 2 years I have had just two or three periods, fairly short in duration. I have been to the GP who said to wait until 6 months and if I didn’t have a period to come back. Almost 6 months later I had one short period so I didn’t feel I could go back...nothing since and I am 6 months down the road again. I am suffering with terrible insomnia (but I work shifts so my sleep patterns are quite poor), I get night sweats (but only now and again) and my mood swings are quite extreme (but I often put this down to tiredness). I am 42. Any thoughts?

sausages75 · 11/07/2019 07:29

Hi regarding the ablation I had heavy periods of 10 days plus was anaemic constantly tired. I was 42 with no menopausal symptoms beforehand. Quite bad pms before though. I had it done through husbands bupa (some areas waiting list can be long). It was a GA but doesn't have go be. I was home same day & had to take it easy for a coupe days. Back to normal after about a week. No pain or problems. That was 2 years ago & I feel great now. I don't have any peri menopausal symptoms yet. Not had a period since & have loads of energy.

Mrslotus · 11/07/2019 08:20

@Sunnydaymum Well , listening to your experience i can say it seems more like pre menopause like situation . But i could be wrong . All the symptoms you told are similar to menopause stories .
May be some one else can explain here bit more about it. All the best.

It's been 4 weeks now - 4 WEEKS! So sick of it. Every time I think it's coming to an end it starts up again Sad I have a GP appt next Friday but I'm really hoping it's finished by then. Am starting to worry that it might be something more serious but it sounds like plenty of you experienced the same.
