A new thread for sharing experiences, tips and so on.

To kick off, I have been taken aback by the severity of my symptoms( hourly flushes, night sweats, palpitations, insomnia, stress incontinence, exhaustion and aching hands and feet.)

So far, switching from down duvet to microfibre has helped
As has increasing fruit and veg intake and cutting down on large evg meals and red meat
And taking menopace with sage.
I now have two chilled face flannels in fridge with which to mop my menopausal brow.

But these help only marginally. So am seeing docin early October.

Well at 55 I think I'm nearly there. Taken HRT for 5 years which makes me feel human.
I actually have never looked better Grin
That maybe to do with getting rid of h this year....my stress levels are zero.
Planning to come off HRT next year to see what happens. I am sick of a monthly bleed and can't take conti tablets.

Ooh great news on the wool duvet euphemia!
Someone asked about food. I find large meals especially with red meat cause flushing and palpitations. Things have improved since I've cut down portion size and increased my veg and fruit intake.
In fact I've only had one flush today. When I first started posting they were every hour!
Could this mean my body is starting to adjust to things?

Diet is definitely supposed to help, and the advice is to eat healthily by cutting out junk food, especially refined carbs, increasing fruit and veg, whole pulses, oily fish and good fats. Spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol and sugar can make flushes worse.
You may be ok words, but be aware that at this stage flushes can really vary hugely because your hormone levels are still all over the place, daily. When my cycle was petering out, I'd have no flushes during a cycle when I was clearly ovulating, then when there was a gap of two months or so, they came back hourly.

Morning all!
Well I've been almost symptom -free for over a week. Have cut out alcohol completely ( and joined the Dry thread to help). Haven't had a period for three months but feel a bit crampy so who knows what might be happening. ( interval before the last one was about the same)
Seeing doctor on Friday. Current level of symptoms entirely manageable though I'm not daft enough to think this state of affairs will continue.
Will see what doc has to say.
How is everyone else getting on?

Hi there, signing in. Am pre menopausal. So far, a diet similar to Pinkfrock's is helping, plus cutting out dairy.

Fluoxitine is helping with mood swings and such. I take it at night because it makes hot flushes worse, and makes me sleepy.
Also on meds for thyroid, and get iron, calcium, vit D etc checked each year too. Take a multivitamin now and then.

I didnt get on with the minipill either. Cried and cried and started to get quite paranoid and argued over imagined slights. Is HRT like that too?! I'm sure I read an article in a scientific journal that said hrt doesn't actually help/do anything.

I have a tip for spots/acne, from my teens. As well as adjusting diet, try banana skin! Apply the inside of the banana skin to the spots, before bed. Rub some on gently, leave it on overnight and rinse ofg in the morning. Repeat every night, and spots shrink and go. We found if w try this every now and then and few spots come back, if any. (When we put coconut oil in hair is a good time, as that can make the face a bit more moisturised too).

well, not really or thousands of women wouldn't swear by it and say it's wonderful!

HRT is proven to help hot flushes, vaginal atrophy and bladder problems, bone density and depression. It might take a while to find the right one for you, but loads of women feel great using it.

I'm not sure why it would - pinkfrocks has posted plenty on these threads about his/her expert research and knowledge. Pity it couldn't have been offered when someone was asking directly for it.

Oh for goodness sake BIWI. What's your problem? I am very informed about HRT yes. I don't make any apologies for that. I use it and I've made it my business to inform myself so I can make an informed choice. I have discussed HRT with my dr over several years. Is this an issue for you? Sounds like it. And it's creating nastiness where there ought not to be any.

If someone says they know nothing about HRT then I don't have time in a working day to start telling them, but I directed them to an informative site. I'm getting tired of these jibes which seem to be from people who, for whatever reasons, don't like someone knowing a bit more than they do about something. If you want to create bad feeling on the forum then carry on like you are.

suzanne- will you please stop this nastiness. I don't know what's driving it but it's quite unnecessary.

There are a couple of people here who make nasty comments if I share my knowledge - they have their reasons and I struggle to know why- then they pick me up if I leave a link for a poster saying I don't have the time to reply to her post at the moment. Since when was I answerable to anyone over whether I reply or not?

This is getting very silly indeed and I hope you will stop because it's clear to other posters that bullying is going on.

Anyway, thank you BIWI for welcoming me to the thread. I seem to have walked in on something... It did seem like you were telling me off and to get my coat and go elsewhere, pink. I was trying to be friendly and invite you to wax lyrical about something you seem to know about. Sorry, didn't rtft.

I can understand if you don't want to see HRT dismissed as ineffective/a placebo, especially as it clearly is very effective for a number of serious symptoms. (now I've read more on it, thank you.. I have the time now, so I'll answer my own question, might as well!)

I feel the same way about people who dismiss all menopause symptoms with 'just take HRT and you'll be fine' as it isn't the answer to everything, and presumably not everyone can take it, or get it.

Peace- my post wasn't meant to be rude. I work, I have limited time to come to the forum, you mentioned that you knew nothing about HRT and my comment- which was possibly misunderstood by you- was meant to be friendly in tone, saying I didn't have the time to post all about HRT (for someone who said they knew nothing about it) because it would take simply ages and ages.) That's why I left the name of a good website so you could have a read.

As you have picked up there is a history to some posters here and it's being looked into.
