Another south-west London meet-up anyone?

I feel like a night out with the mums again...anyone fancy a meal in Putney/Richmond/thereabouts sometime in February? Anyone welcome!

sis - where are you? I don't really mind making it more central but haven't a clue on venue. I suppose one of the central Pizza Express branches would be easy. What do the other south-west Londoners feel about coming into town? Not so good for those driving. I was looking forward to an easy train ride to Putney / bus to Richmond but will put up with another awful tube journey into the West End (like the one I had last night) for the sake of fellow mumsnetters ): Also, does anyone know if the anti-war protest will mean there will be any streets closed/tube stations closed?

Sorry sis that was supposed to be a smiley!!

Fionn, I'm in north west London (nr Wembley) but the other reason I was asking so very nicely is because I really don't get out much and haven't a clue on alternative venues - pizza express is good for me

tigermoth · 29/01/2003 12:02

Pizza Express is fine by me too, or how do we all feel about a repeat visit to Baccanalia? For those who don't know, the restaurant is on The Strand so in walking distance of Waterloo and Charing Cross main line stations and also Covent Garden tube station. Is this OK for west londoners? Not good for parking, though, and the demonstration may cause travel complications.
I can hop on the Jubilee line very easily, so if we are thinking west/central, the area around Green Park/Bond street is good for me personally.

SofiaAmes · 29/01/2003 13:34

Sis, I'm quite happy to give you a ride as we are very close. I put in a large vote for something NOT in the West End. I'd rather drive to north london!

sis · 29/01/2003 15:20

Oh cheers Sophia, in that case, Fionn, I'm happy to come along to wherever my lift is happy to go to!

clucks · 29/01/2003 15:26

I am v likely to drive too, so if anyone else wants a lift from SW london..Pamina et al, I am offering one.

Not being lazy (although have to admit an easy bus ride to Putney was a plus) but if the anti-war march is on I'd rather not have to slog in to central London. Also, if the majority of us are coming from SW London it does make more sense to do something this side albeit a bit nearer - say Hammersmith/Kensington or somewhere similar.

The march might well complicate things no matter where we are - wherever the meetup is, some of us are going to have tube it or drive across london. Do you think London transport or any other public body will be able to say now what stations and roads will be closed or extra conjested? Perhaps we ought to find this out first before settling on a restaurant?

bettys · 29/01/2003 21:37

Just caught up with this thread. I'd love to come too, but would also prefer a venue not in the centre of London as hate public transport at night.

sis · 30/01/2003 10:46

Just a thought, please don't shout at me, but if people coming to LOndon for the March are staying overnight, and others are going to find it hard to get to the venue cos of disruptions on roads and the tube etc, and some people not feeling comfortable on the trains at nighttime - is it worth considering sunday lunchtime meet-up instead?

Honestly, just a thought, don't want to disrupt plans if most people would find it easier to get together on saturday evening in South West London...

Fionn · 30/01/2003 14:15

Sis - I always prefer evenings as don't like drinking at lunchtime and it's easier for dp and the children (and me!) if I'm out for 4 hours at night instead of during the day. I must admit this is getting a bit more complicated than what I originally had in mind!
It seems like most people are coming from the west side of London, apart from Tigermoth and anyone who's coming to London for the march. I really don't want to excude anyone, but tend to agree with willow2 that the west side of the centre eg Hammersmith/Kensington would suit most people. Please could everyone who's expressed an interest say if they're definitely still able to come if we make it the 15th, and be honest about where you are and aren't willing to travel to/from!

tigermoth · 30/01/2003 14:23

kensington would suit me fine, especially if the venue is near the the circle line - hammersmith possibly, though it's further away.

Didn't realise I was the only one thinking of coming from the 'far' east side of London.

prufrock · 30/01/2003 14:37

Sorry 0 have decided taht as I will be in Ireland for 4 days I really had better spend time with dh and dd at the weekend rather than you lot. (Although you would probably be better company than dh at least)
bk (and anybody else that works there) - are you up for lunch in the City one day instead?

bells2 · 30/01/2003 14:49

I'm up for a City lunch.

SueW · 30/01/2003 14:59

bells, I would prefer a city lunch too. It's easier and cheaper for me, coming down from Nottingham and wouldn't involve an overnight stay anywhere.

Getting to and from somewhere like Kensington to St Pancras in the evening would be a nightmare and would prob mean I had to leave after the starter!

bossykate · 30/01/2003 19:45

here's my 2c fwiw.

*sw london meet-up (i.e. in sw london!)would suit me. i don't like the west end, especially on a weekend evening after a big march/demo.
*evenings are easier for me than days (except if near work) - and it means i don't miss out on my time with ds
i'm also interested in meeting up for a city lunch (thanks, pru ) - probably a separate thread?
15th is ok for me if i don't
go on the march, since i'm still dithering about this, i'd prefer another date.

so having said that i'll wait to see what the consensus is ...

hth fionn, thanks for doing the organising

tigermoth · 30/01/2003 21:03

just wondered if anyone who intends to travel into london for the march is definitely aiming to meet in the evening? Tinker etc? If not, the 15th (with the public transport problems) doesn't have to be set in stone.

Fionn - you must be cursing us all for complicating this thread. If you decide to meet more south west than south west central, so be it.

Gosh, I feel terribly guilty now When I suggested the 15th I just meant that I thought some others (Rhubarb?) may be going to London that day. Not sure if I can make it though. Please don't all shout at me!

bettys · 30/01/2003 22:02

Can make most nights inc. 15th but not Thursdays (Buffy night-sad or what?). Would much much prefer a SW location as am a complete lazyarse.

bossykate · 30/01/2003 22:10

tinker, don't feel bad, good thought

tigermoth · 30/01/2003 22:21

tinker, see you another time hopefully - and don't feel guilty. You only made a vague suggestion.
