Hi Gomez

Thanks for the info - tho' you're freaking me out a bit about the whole house buying thing... DH starts new job in Stirling on 2 Aug, and we've still got to sell our house up here first! Yikes. I'm sure it will all work out. From what you know then , what kind of % over the asking price do houses go for in Stirling?

Gomez · 27/05/2004 00:31

Very hard to say - like all areas depends where they are and how desirable. Couple we really went all out on were in the region of 40% over asking price - one we got was about 25% over. But the Aberdeen market is quite hot too isn't it so you shouldn't be too scared!!!!

ja9 · 27/05/2004 00:36

Interesting!! I'm due on 10 Sept so should be in Stirling area for 6 wks b4 due date... do u think i'll catch ante-natal classes there? Are you giving birth at Stiling hosp abw?

Gomez · 27/05/2004 01:04

Yip am due to use Stirling Royal. Can't say on the ante-natal classes I am afraid - have used the NCT instead. I think however they run pretty regular and on different days depending on the Midwife Team you are in so you should manage to fit at least some in.

Gomez · 27/05/2004 01:06

Sorry should have said that although we went in the region of 40% over I don't actually know what the winning bids were!! Also on the one we eventually got we accepted a very short-entry date and bridged for about 6 weeks to make our offer acceptable! So it can be fierce. Do you need to be right in Stirling?

PolarCub · 28/05/2004 10:37

I'm in Dundee, a single Mum, and would love to meet up with others. I can travel to Edinburgh or similar, but I'm relying on public transport, so good directions would be needed to the meetup place

tabitha · 28/05/2004 12:37

Hi

I'm in Falkirk area too (polmont to be exact).
Went to the same meet-up as applepie last autumn but have missed two since then. Would like to go to another one - I'm currently on maternity leave until mid August so any day would do.
Have dd (16 weeks), ds (6) and two teenage dds.

JanZ · 29/05/2004 12:39

Colette - I used to live in Shawlands - Bellwood Street. We really liked it there - it was great having Queens Park on our doorstep and the shops on Kilmarnock Road. The parking was a nightmare though!

Used to go to Battlefield Cross (if that's what it's called - the old bus station in front of the Victoria) for a meal occasionally - still do in fact!

kalex · 29/05/2004 22:11

Right,

Let get sonething organised here,

I vote for Edinburgh zoo, Sunday 13th June.
Polarcub, I can give you a lift if you can get yourself to Perth.

Is anybody else out there up for this

Loobie · 29/05/2004 23:33

ok me too i'll come if the weather is ok,and ds is not having a bad day,but then he goes out on respite on a sunday so he can always go out with carer if in a bad mood instead of taking it out on me hee hee

PolarCub · 29/05/2004 23:48

Edinburgh Zoo and the 13th June sound good to me
Kalex - I can get myself to Perth so a lift to Edinburgh would be brilliant!!!

Toothache · 30/05/2004 12:10

Hello Folks!

I live in Falkirk, but come from Stirling Ja9. As for house prices it really depends on your budget. I moved to the Falkirk area as the prices were MUCH more realistic. The train service to Glasgow and Edinburgh is fantastic and the shopping centre is much the same as Stirling. If you move out of the centre of Stirling... within a 10mile radius, you'll get much more for your money in terms of housing and Council Tax too. :

As for the meet-up, 13th June is DH's birthday so sadly will have to give that one a miss. My friend is a Senior Zookeeper there and is an animal handler at the show.... wonder if I'll be able to get you all 'backstage passes'. I'll see what I can do.

Gomez · 30/05/2004 18:50

Was thinking I might be brave enough for the 13th but remembered DD has a 'Ballet Show'- so sorry can't make it. Have fun!

JanZ · 30/05/2004 19:11

Don't think I'll be able to make it.

Mum & Dad's gardens are open on the Saturday as part of the Scotland's Garden scheme and we're helping out, and on the Sunday I want to try to get along to the last ever Mindstore course that Jack Black is giving.

Shame, because ds would have just LOVED the zoo.

Hi Ja9, We moved to Stirling in December & I gave birth in SRI in January. Had done all ante-natal stuff at Queen Mum's in Glasgow so a little tentative about moving at such a late date. But found all staff antenatally very helpful (at GP and hospital) though they did want to start from scratch - sat down with a midwife to go through their questionnaire "are you sure you are pregnant" and summoned for a scan which requested a full bladder - I could hardly climb onto the bed at this stage! Most of the staff great - met very nice midwife Fiona antenatally & she was there for delivery. Building a wee bit run down, but pretty ok delivery rooms (at least they had windows unlike most at Queen Mums) and though there are a few "old style" wifies working there (I tearfully requested help with bf the day after ds was born and was told by one "Oh you'll be one of the girls who's on the bottle as soon as she gets out of here"...though in retrospect she may have meant the whisky!) most are great, really helpful and caring. Best thing about SRI though was that all nappies, cotton wool, breast pads, towels, baby clothes & blankets provided. Someone told me this before I moved but I thought that they must have been mistaken, particularly as at QM it was stressed that you got your one free nappy and that was it! Good luck with househunting - we bought our place in October - good locations not cheap but worth every penny for a fantastic town & gorgeous surroundings, good shops and (if you live in central area) free entry to the castle!

spots · 30/05/2004 21:42

hi all, am in fife ex of edinburgh for all same reasons described previously... Would be quite up for coming to ed zoo but as dd only 12 days old would be shameless mumsnet noseyness rather than opportunity to give her a good time...

Ja9 we know happy residents of Balfron and Buchlyvie; there are lots of nice villages around stirlingshire if you can do the village thing and cast your net wide. gorgeous walks & stuff, lucky you...

Toothache and gscrym is there any fun to be had apart from falkirk wheel around falkirk? Am trying to persuade dh to drive me there on saturday for an Event and he's willing as long as he can meet his glasgow pals for some (sober) boy fun... Good tourist attraction type stuff I suppose... or pedalloes, they seem to like pedalloes??

gscrym · 31/05/2004 00:39

There's Callander park which has a big Manor house in it. There used to be pedallos on the lake but I don't know if they still have them. I don't really know what else there is (shameful - I know).
Can't come along on the 13th. I'm nightshift on the 12th and plan to be sleeping for a fair percentage of the day as DH is off. If there are any others then let me know and I'll see how it fits in with my shifts.
Anyone who has kiddie-winks into Trains in the Central area, there's Boness Steam Railway. It's not to bad and during the summer it's open every day. Also, they're having a Thomas the Tank Engine weekend.

JanZ · 02/06/2004 12:26

There was a Thomas weekend a couple of weeks ago. The next one is in August. Ds LOVES the day out - he gets beside himself with excitement! We went on 16th May (our wedding anniversary) and had a fantastic day; it was glorious weather and we had a picnic in the woods at the the other end of the railway line.

Spots - I go to Balfron every Wednesday for a Pilates class. (although it's a long treck for me as I live on the South side! - but usually I will stop for a cup of tea at my mum & dad's who live in Bardowie)

kalex · 02/06/2004 23:56

13th is not going to work. How about everybody posting 2 dates in july that you can make, and then make a date based on majority decison, also add a place that you wouldlike to go to!

PS Polarcub, lets go tp Camperdown on 13th. Picnic and see the animals!!

PolarCub · 03/06/2004 03:37

HI Kalex
Camperdown is good for me to!
Email me at polarcub(at)tiscali.co.uk

I think all weekends are free for me for a meetup (what a sad life I lead)

Can I ask what ages are everyone elses kids?
My ds is 5.5 years old

Loobie · 03/06/2004 12:05

I can do any dates from the 16th onwards as thats when we come back our hols!My kids are 8,6 and 18mth,first two are boys then baby dd.I'm 27 and from livingston but up for travelling to a degree,so i'll keep watching avidly to see where and when it's happening.

gscrym · 03/06/2004 23:21

Last 2 weeks in July, I'm on block so can make any most days.

Toothache · 05/06/2004 15:16

At some point in the last fortnight of July I expect to go into labour!! So it's best I don't put my name down.... but if you all arrange something solid I'll maybe gatecrash. As long as we're near-ish a hospital.

spots · 10/06/2004 22:29

I would like to come too if it was earlyish july - taking holidays last two weeks.

Toothache · 12/06/2004 12:42

Has everyone gone off the idea?
