hi lovelymummy, i live in ch and alas, like babster, 10 years older have a ds and another due just after easter. working full time so unfortunately, no time for coffee mornings or play groups maybe when i'm on maternity leave ...? (she says hopefully). when are you due babster? what do you think of the rosie so far?

wanted to ask, has anyone been to any first aid courses? keep meaning to do one but have been putting it off.

Sheila · 07/01/2005 13:17

Any single parents amongst you? Would esp. like to meet up with you if so. I have 1 ds aged 4, live in central Cambs.

lovelymummy · 07/01/2005 19:36

Hi csa
I dont think the Rosie is the best hospital but when i was in labour with Brooklyn had i had a very hard time during the birth my midwife was so fantastic and really supported me! I also had to stay in for a week afterwards and They staff on that ward (Christine ward) were really friendly and very helpful.:-) when is your baby due??

lovelymummy · 07/01/2005 19:38

Where have all the other Cambridge mums gone?

Nome · 07/01/2005 21:38

I'm around, but v. tired...(the effect of lurking on the various flouncing threads)

Caribbeanqueen · 07/01/2005 21:44

Hi Nome, I know what you mean, I'm all "lurked out"!

csa · 07/01/2005 23:41

hi lovelymummy, april 17. so far, haven't had the best impression of the rosie and was wondering what others thought

lovelymummy · 08/01/2005 18:53

Hi Csa
When i had my other two boys at the Rosie i didnt enjoy it there at all.I felt like they were quick to get me out because they needed the bed!oh and the food is revolting there make sure you take your own lol.

cazzybabs · 08/01/2005 19:33

I loved the Rosie- but I don't have other hosiptals to compare it too. I found the midwives handsoff which I wanted - both labours I have had no intervention but much encouragment. The showers are amazing, but we have crap water pressure in our house and I was allowed out when I wanted. The food is rubbish though.

Nome · 08/01/2005 20:37

I had ds in the Rosie and was happy enough. I was just so weepy anywhere would have been grim! The midwives and auxiliaries were all very nice and I had lots of help (on demand) to get bf established. I would have liked a limit on the number of visitors the other mothers had - it was really annoying not able to sleep or sit in my bed with feeling on show.

I had post-birth complications a month after the birth and CAMDOC sent me to Hinchingbrooke with ds, so I visited their maternity ward too. Old fashioned, not as busy, very strict on visiting hours (dh was evicted every afternoon so I could 'rest') and visitor numbers. Showers at H. were disgusting and you had to order your food 24 hours in advance. If you weren't on the ward when the food came up, you didn't get fed I was off the ward for a scan and they didn't keep my food for me.

A couple of friends gave birth at H. and were very happy with it and the midwives. I was happy with the Rosie and would go there again, for sheer convienence apart from anything else!

babster · 08/01/2005 21:24

Hello again, hi csa. I'm due on March 19 - didn't have the best experiences at the Rosie, but then again I have nothing to compare it to as I'd never been to hospital before (lucky me!) and I'm rubbish with pain. Can't say I'm looking forward to going through all that again in 10 weeks... Agree about the food - my hospital bag was full of shortbread The staff were friendly enough though, and like cazzybabs I really appreciated the showers. This time round I think I just need to be more assertive, and bellow 'EPIDURAL PLEASE!'

lovelymummy · 08/01/2005 23:37

I had an active birth i walked around the whole time i was allowed music on and my midwife was so supportive of me i was in a state it went so quick i had no pain relief and i screamed the place down!! my midwife didnt care she just wanted me to deliver my baby safely i gave birth upright with her support she was fantastic!! I think it definately helps if you have agood miwife. With my 1st baby i was forced to lie down and have him and i had pain relief and i didnt enjoy it! ok i didnt feel pain but i just cant stand it when you are flat on your back and having too push!! my midwifes name was Mary Naylor she is soooo lovely!!!! and proberly deaf after delivering me lol.

csa · 10/01/2005 15:34

oh, good luck babster. we are only a month apart then. will definitely have to meet up once i am on maternity leave. as for epidural, saw my midwife last week (she's actually real nice) and she suggested a water birth and threatened (jokingly... i hope ) that i won't be needing any this time round - my parting words to her were "don't take away my drugs!!!" lol! had dh overseas so care was very different. had 1 gynaechologist all thorough pg and he was the one who delivered too. so, kind of spoilt by that. alas. anyhow, starting on prenatal yoga tonight with birthlight. quite excited about it actually.

thanks all for the warning about the food. never thought about putting biscuits in the bag but now it is No. 1 on the list.

lovelymummy · 10/01/2005 17:16

Hello Csa and Babster
im going to the postnatal excercise class tommorrow morning at addenbrokes! Brooklyn is now 10 wks tommorrow so need to start doing some form of postnatal excerice but as i suffered from spd whilst pg and still get it now sometimes if i walk alot or do too much then i dont think i can join any old class.Do any of you swim? I would love to go swimming! might think about a mother and baby swim at parkside or the abbey swimming pool.Although im not so keen on parkside as it gets busy!

csa · 11/01/2005 09:14

lovelymummy, abbey pool is quite nice. not as busy as parkside.

csa · 11/01/2005 09:21

btw, birthlight does a baby and mummy swimming classes from 2m to 4year olds. it's on monday, tuesday and saturdays at the grove school, campkin road and on thursdays and sundays at the windmill school in fulbourn. £45 for a 6 week module (1 parent 1 baby) or £65 for 2 parent 1 baby. website address is www.birthlight.com
haven't tried it but may try it with ds who is now nearly 3.

Nome · 12/01/2005 14:41

I did the Bumpercise postnatal classes and ds and I go to swimming classes. We tried Birthlight, but the pool chemicals/heat made ds' exzema worse. We've been going to Aquatots for 18 months now.

cat82 · 12/01/2005 14:46

Oooh, oooh! another meet up?! can we? can we?!

Sassybee, i have a dd who is 8 months old tomorrow and live in the centre of cambs.

When are people free?

Caribbeanqueen · 12/01/2005 14:51

Don't see why not!! How about a Thursday morning?

cat82 · 12/01/2005 14:52

My main complaint with the rosie is that the midwife didn't believe my baby was about to be born, and if dp wasn't rather persuasive and i hadn't been being sick for 5 hours, he would've ended up delivering her at home

However, my midwife was lovely and really helped me get through it, and they were quite helpful with bf (even though i did fail to that in the end, sadly)

I am free to meet whenever really, i have very little life

sassybabee · 12/01/2005 15:51

depends when and where!!

babster · 12/01/2005 17:28

I could do Thursday am...
