JRocks · 30/03/2008 21:42

Hi cheesesarnie - I'm in Cornwall, but unable to meet up at the moment, some family stuff going on.. just wanted to say hello! Where in Cornwall are you?

BigBadMouse · 30/03/2008 21:45

Hello JRocks - where abouts are you in Cornwall?

JRocks · 30/03/2008 22:01

small village on north coast, kind of midway between Newquay and St Ives... are you in Cornwall too?

Pavlovthecat · 30/03/2008 22:04

cornish mners, I am thinking of buying a property on liskeard area. Have an almost two year old and will be commuting to plymouth.

Suggestions on areas to consider/avoid?

Sorry to hijack, but seeing as you are about...

JRocks · 30/03/2008 22:12

I have absolutely no idea Pavlov, sorry! It's so far away from me, I'd be just as clueless..hope you find something good

BigBadMouse · 30/03/2008 22:12

JRocks - yep but further North from you - tiny group of cottages on North Cornwall / Devon Border (Near Bude).

There are a few of us on here but we all seem to be rather spread across Cornwall (sort of one every 70 square miles I think

Pavlov What sort of property do you want and what sort of location? Do you want a modern property or older cottage? Do you want to be somewhere within walking distance of a corner shop type place or do you want to be in the middle of nowhere?

cheesesarnie · 30/03/2008 22:14

Cornwall's not so convenient for quick meet ups is it?! I know there's someone in Penzance too (whose name escapes me just now), but it would take an age for us all to get to each other! Wouldn't want to live anywhere else though...

Pavlovthecat · 30/03/2008 22:18

bbm - its a tall ask if I am honest. 3 bed, dining room, garden (will consider no dining room with large enough kitchen for table, and good size lounge). Dont really want a newbuild. Garden and green space is preferable so prepared to have to travel to shops, although one shop within walking distance would be preferable (ie 10 mins). Needs to be close ish to train/bus routes to plymouth.

Menheniot? St Annes Chapel? Callington? Are they good areas?

Other prob, only have £150k, max.

BigBadMouse · 30/03/2008 22:19

cheesiesarnie - how could you?????? I sent out a search party for you a few weeks ago - they must have reached Otterham Station by now .

How are you??

BigBadMouse · 30/03/2008 22:20

sorry for the 'adaptation' of your new name. In our house 'Cheese' is only ever referred to as 'Cheesie' now - I really must get out more

cheesesarnie · 30/03/2008 22:21

lol sorry !i cant even remember reason of change-boredom i suppose!search party are sat in front of aga as we speak!im fine-bored and children are bored, were having daily discos in the dining room!you?

Pavlov - Menheniot I saw a lovely place just outside there which was lovely, missed out on it though but things worked out well in the end for us. Menheniot is nice as is the surrounding area - the place I saw was in Pengover. St Annes Chapel is OK I think, Callington getting very built up so bear that in mind if you buy a place with a green field net to you! There are lots of tiny little hamlets in that area which will suit you well.

If you aren;t too bothered about being a bit isolated you might find that works to your advantage price wise. The moment you go near civilisation or near a prime holiday cottage location the price goes up. As a result little hamlet with no school (lots of them) or 7-11 type shop on the doorstep can be cheaper.

I looked at a lot of areas when I moved down here as our only requirement was cottage suitable for dogs within 1 hours drive of Plymouth.

Soemthing to bear in mind is that if you are in the middle of nowhere you may find 10 mins walk to the local shop will involve walking along a windy country lane with no pavement and lots of fast traffic.

Having a think about nice places in your price range - it is possible you know!

BigBadMouse · 30/03/2008 22:31

Cheesesarnie - yes, not too bad thanks. DH away a lot, children playing up as a result. DD2 giving me cause for concern with her 'unusual' behaviour and DS1 (bump) kicking the living daylights out of my internal bits .

Discos in the dining room sound fun - silly weather hasn't helped the boredom I bet.

cheesesarnie · 30/03/2008 22:34

pavlov- this might help

OP posts:
cheesesarnie · 30/03/2008 22:35

how long till baby arrives? at your dh being away lots.what unusual behaviour?

OP posts:
Pavlovthecat · 30/03/2008 22:35

windy roads no problem. My DH grew up in chagford (of course, cant buy a garage there!!!) so he is used to it, I grew up in London, and am relishing the thought of quietness, even being in Plymouth seems hectic at times. Think I am growing old to quickly! I have friends in Plymouth and other town/city areas so can go back there if I need company.

We live 10 mins from many of our friends and still hardly see them now we have a child! If thats the case, I would prefer to have great surroundings!!

hamlet with no school is ok as long as school is in area somewhere on route to work. Callington built up compared to Plymouth? What about reputation wise? I saw a fantastic place in St Annes Chapel, it has a little station there doesnt it?

cheesesarnie · 30/03/2008 22:37

i want to move to falmouth ,truro area!

Pavlov I've lived on Plymouth too. Nice houses in Plymouth (sometimes) so being built up there didn;t bother me so much but in Callington it is getting taken over with developments of 'detached executive residences' (20 per acre sort of thing). I've not lived there but heard mixed opinions - some say it is a bit rough at times tbh I'm not sure.

Looked at several places in St Annes Chapel but I can't remember much about the place itself sorry. I know there is a station there though.

Have you thought about Pensilva - it's really quite nice around there, mainly moddern properties (often bungalows) but lovely surroundings on the moor. Also St Cleer (which is similar) - both will have places in your price range with 3 beds ad a garden.

Does it have to be Cornwall? Bere Alston has a good shcool and is quite cheap, then there is Gunnislake (cornwall) and Calstock (good school again)(devon)...

BigBadMouse · 30/03/2008 22:47

. Some lovely places near Fowey though, I see the attraction (plus it's warmer down there!). Truro far too much like civilisation for me - I believe they have a McDonalds down there (whatever that is ).

Nah, you should all move up near me then I can bore someone other than DH to death by discussing my daily exploits
