Cheers, really didn't think you would anyway- same goes for you obviously!

I've been pointed to this post by DontCallMeBaby

I moved to Brockworth last August and mostly like it. It has excellent links to Cheltenham and Gloucester (20 mins to each). It's quiet but not too quiet. There do seem to be some rough areas though. The schools aren't great.. well, the 2 primaries seem OK, but the secondary school is awful. But there's always grammar school!

I've not had or witnessed any trouble here in the past 9.5 months.. infact everyone seems really friendly.

One thing worth noting is that they seem to be expanding massively.. they opened a Tesco last year which enraged locals and they're now building more housing, another school and some shops nextdoor. So it probably won't feel villagey for much longer.

bubblerock · 31/05/2007 18:09

Oi - nowt wrong wiv Brockworf comp - I went there and turned out ok lol, actually it was a good school when I was there but I left over 12 years ago so I don't know what it's like now.

Hayls · 31/05/2007 21:06

Absolutely nothing wrong with BWorth. All I meant was that there are some parts that are less desirable than others but at first glance you might not realise... THere are some really lovely parts too though, it just helps to know where the nicer parts are! The comp is improving loads but still isn't fantastic, bette roptions around IMO. I actually thik most of the local people are lovely and it has a sort of village feel. Plus as a couple of people have said it really is great for getting to both Glos and Cheltenham and the M5. Sorry if I was offensive, I didn't meant to be, never come across as I mean to on here!

Put in an offer today on a property in churchdown but was rejected, we aren't going to put a higher offerin as we think that it was a fair price and basically needed so much work done.

Thinking of basically purchasing a cheaper house modern detached house, not doing a lot to it and moving on after 2 years.

What is Abbeymead area like ? Does anyone know.

OP posts:
Hayls · 03/06/2007 18:07

Abbeymead is pretty nice, quite green but a new area si houses aren't that big and many gardens overlooked. We moved last year and viewed a few in Abbeymead but moved to Abbeydle instead (only a couple of miles away) Schools are good, supermarket a few mins away and it is quite a nice community. HTH

poppy101 · 04/06/2007 19:59

Thanks will look at Abbeydale as well.

Thinking of the new Kingsway houses or Quedgeley.

This might be the better option for us.

Advice appreciated !

Bubblerock, you may well have been taught by my SIL (and her late dh as well) if you went to Brockworth comp ...

Hayls · 21/06/2007 18:47

Just caught up with this poppy. Think it's ok in that area but when we first moved here we avoided it because there was only one main road into town and it got seriously busy at rush hour. However, they've built a new road now and whilst I haven't used it I think it has helped the situation. It is quite near the motorway too.. don't know about noise levels but handy for m5 plus points are proximity to local amenities and thnk they're planning on building a school and doctors etc on site for all new residents- houses all look pretty nice.

bubblerock · 25/06/2007 11:08

Hey Wigwam - have only just seen this, you have me intriqued now, give me a clue (although If he was a teacher who died I can only think of one and it was terribly sad - far too young ).

WigWamBam · 25/06/2007 11:10

A clue ... erm ...

She a history teacher, lots of hair, likes purple. He was an art teacher.

bubblerock · 25/06/2007 11:20

LOL - yup I was taught by KP for A Level history and she was my head of 6th form, I was a total nightmare student - not interested in school by the time I got to 6th form (more interested in boys ) She would probably remember me. I went to the reunion and that's when most of us heard about Mr H as it had just happened and it was such a shock!

WigWamBam · 25/06/2007 11:22

That's them

Was a terrible shock when he died, completely out of the blue. Too nice a man to go so young.

bubblerock · 25/06/2007 11:31

I was only taught by him a few times in my early years, but he was lovely, I left in 94 and was there when it was Folliard as head and Burrell/Pike as the deputy, she also taught history with KP - I think they both liked the fact that we were an all girl A level history group as they were both quite posh and would say 'come on girls' lol

Is she still at the school? I hope she's doing well as she was/is a really good teacher - very fair, fun and a bit scary at the same time!

WigWamBam · 25/06/2007 11:35

Yep - describes her well

She left Brockworth a few years ago, went on to get a couple of other schools out of special measures, then got a headship at a different school.

bubblerock · 25/06/2007 11:48

That's brilliant - a lot of very good teachers left because of changes etc.. my favourite was Mr Edwards, he taught Biology and was a 6th form tutor. Well pass on my regards, (urm.. my first name starts with a J and then a leg joint and my then surname wasn't Scotland, England or Ireland) Probably not cryptic enough, but I've got nothing (much) to hide lol.

WigWamBam · 25/06/2007 11:51

You're right ... probably not very cryptic

She's sure to remember you; will pass on your regards.
