Hello
Im just outside Chelmsford
I have 1 DD who is 22mths.
I'll meet you for a coffee & chat
I've put a watch on this thread - hope to speak to you soon

michaelad · 13/03/2007 10:16

Hiya,
great to hear from you! I was beginning to think there is no one in my area at all! SAHM? And what do you do when you're not looking after DD..as if there is ever any spare time

OP posts:
MagicalMay · 13/03/2007 12:07

lol sleep lol

A couple of sat's a mth either mum or dad look after DD for the evening & i norm catch up with friends (go to their house, pub, cinema) Actualy Sat just gone i went 'Ice Skating' !!! god have not been for years..... It was a great night - & i didnt fall over
Most weeks mum will take DD shopping with her so i get a few hrs to myself - but rather than time for me i 'spring clean' as they say. Yeah Yeah sad i know but it gives me a chance to turn the music up & just blits the house with no interuptions.
TBH DD is with me all the time really.
Quite a few friends have ickle DD / DS so we do things with them.

Hows about you? What do you get up to?

michaelad · 13/03/2007 12:29

Yeah, know exactly what you mean. ds2 just started going to nursery 2 days a week (ds1 is attending 3 days) so, after 4 yrs of constantly looking after children and having zero time to myself, I now have 2 entire days off! Yay!!! What do I do with it...I feel guilty about it and clean the house.LOL It will take me some time to get used to the newfound freedom.
I don't really know anyone in the area, tbh (sad cow, me ). I am German and only moved to the UK 5 years ago.Used to live in London and moved to Writtle with dh and ds1 3 years ago. When we do get babysitters (which does not happen all that often), we go to the cinema, go to restaurants, visit friends in London and even go to the occasional gig.

Wow 2 days to yourself That would be lovely hehe

What made you want to come and live in England? If you dont mind me asking.

It does look like we are the only MN in/near Chelmsford lol

michaelad · 14/03/2007 09:12

What made me come to England..boy, long story! Basically, used to always go to London on holiday in my teens and twenties (was a Goth at the time) and had this idea of wanting to move to England for good.Met my now dh about 6 yrs ago (who is british) and just took the plunge. It is hard leaving your family and friends behind though. Affected me more than I thought, really.
How old are you btw. ?

MagicalMay · 14/03/2007 17:13

Me im 26
I think your brave - good it worked for you Are they online back home? I have family abroad and it helps that i can email, msn and skype with them.
My dad said to me ages ago that when he's about to pop his clogs he does not want to have any regrets. I try to remember that in my life.
My DD is having a tantrum day today I just want to explode - any little thing and shes down on the floor crying. Went baby group today and she has 5 or 4 in the space of 1hr! Im used to 1 every few days if that. Im just hoping she will go to bed early tonight (please please please)
Hows your day been?

michaelad · 14/03/2007 20:01

My day's been so so..Evan (ds2) is fast approaching the terrible twos too..so lots of tantrums plus he hits and bites which makes me really sad since he's been such an angelic baby so far (never mind that it bloody hurts). Chris (ds1) is a right wet blanket at the moment, bursting into tears all the time, being afraid of everything, terribly clingy..you name it..and when I have to look after both of them at the same time, I'm just totally knackered at the end of the day. They've just gone down..and I am so glad .
Your dad's right..nothing worse than regretting not having done something. Where abroad are some of your family members? Do you have any siblings? Spoiled rotten only child, me lol.
Better go, am starving!

gingerninja · 15/03/2007 09:33

No you're not. I too live in Chelmsford! (although not from here originally.)

I'm 33 and have a 6 month old DD (going on 16 months, they're too keen to grow up aren't they?)

I work/ed in London and will be returning in August. Don't have any family close by as DH and I are not local. Have made a few friends locally but it is difficult when you don't have much of a network locally isn't it?

michaelad · 15/03/2007 09:59

Hi gingerninja, hooray! We found someone else! We were really beginning to think that we were the only ones in this area. I used to live in London too (Harrow Weald) but dh had to change sites to Luton workwise (although he's in Basildon right now) so we had to move and ended up in Writtle. And hey, London was excellent for nightlife, entertainment etc. ..but with 2 small kids and no immediate family near by there's not much chance of getting out anyway. Miss it sometimes though.
And yes it is hard without a network of friends, I know exactly what you mean {wink]

OP posts:
MagicalMay · 16/03/2007 02:18

eidsvold · 16/03/2007 05:30

sorry for the gatecrash - just saw the thread. I used to live in Danbury until I returned and dh and dd1 emigrated back to Aus. Funnily( am aussie) went to live and work in the UK - met my now dh and dd1( they are english) in Southend. I used to work in Basildon and lived in Southend area until we moved to danbury. Loved Danbury and even now almost 3 years later there are things both dh and I miss about it.

MagicalMay · 16/03/2007 11:33

Hi ya eidsvold
Are you mad ?? You've moved back to Aus and you miss Basildon & Southend ??? I'll swap you you can have my house and i'll have yours in Aus {cheeky i know hehe} If / when i move i would not miss anything but my mum and dad, oh and a few v close friends.

michaelad · 16/03/2007 11:34

Hey MagicalMay,
God, you have family all over the globe. That must make for excellent cheap holidays! . Plans for the weekend...hmmh..in lala land it might include going back to Lake Wanaka in New Zealand..whereas back in grim reality it's "Tiger Cubs" (kiddies martial arts type class )on Saturday and probably some shopping in Chelmsford. And on Sunday we're off to see the Grandparents in Tunbridge Wells. Nothing exciting, really. Must remember to make chocolate-raspberry torte for Sunday. We go to Marsh Farm quite a lot aswell (and Colchester Zoo). Great days out, kids love it!

OP posts:
michaelad · 16/03/2007 11:35

oh, and eids..I agree with MagM! I'll swap anytime! Oz and NZ beat Essex by a very, very looong way!

OP posts:
MagicalMay · 16/03/2007 12:04

no cheap holidays for me really, i only see about a 1/4 of my family in UK and my family in Holland - thats it
Going to holland this summer cant wait as my Cousin has just had a DD
For DD birthday im thinking of booking up the party package at march farm, would you recomend it? going for the 1st time sunday...

michaelad · 16/03/2007 13:02

Don't really know anything about the Marsh farm party package..have not used it myself yet. Try and get as much info out of them as possible though. I've been to parties in places like Go Wild and similar things, and tbh I always came away with the impression that it was way too much money for a bit of entertainment and rubbish food. When's dd's birthday? If the weather is good, why not have a great big picnic somewhere and invite some friends. At least that way you have control over the food.

OP posts:
michaelad · 16/03/2007 13:04

eids, whereabouts in Oz are you? We went to Australia for our honeymoon and I loved every minute of it! Well, apart from the longhaul flight. Was already pregnant with ds1 then.

OP posts:
michaelad · 16/03/2007 13:06

And gingerninja, are you still out there? We don't bite, honest

OP posts:

Then i washed the windows & some how ended up washing the kitchen walls Not that the walls need washing but well dont ask, i cant belive i just washed them either . Well i still have not sorted out the paperwork and the lawn still needs mowing ! hehe & now im about to wash all the cupboards!! what is going on ?
Im so not normaly like this - im mean i do clean but washing the walls ? ..... whats that all about???????? and i do like mowing the lawn so i dont understand why im avoiding doing it.

You're welcome to springclean my house anytime. Oh and the kitchen could definitely do with a lick of paint...and don't even get me started on abysmal colour the previous owners painted the hallway.

eidsvold · 17/03/2007 08:28

don't miss Basildon or Southend - although I lived in a very cool flat in Shoebury when I first moved to the UK. But I miss village life in Danbury - dh and I lived living there.

I am in Brisbane.

We took dd1 to Colchester Zoo for her first birthday!!

Have also taken her to Marsh farm - she loved that.
