If the Summer meet-up, currently being proposed for 15 June (possibly whole weekend), is in Leeds would you go? What about Birmingham?

Please just type "yes", "no", or "maybe" (makes it much easier to determine results of poll)

Birmingham is good for the West Country -ers

Bristol/Bath is better !!

I'd be happy to meet in Brum - direct line from Bristol Temple Meads or I'd be very happy to drive and could take a further 4 Bristol/Bath bods

Rhubarb · 22/11/2006 14:13

Scotland would be better for me, but hey, I'm prepared to travel - unlike some people!

jampots · 22/11/2006 14:15

brum yes!!!!

were you thinking of a picnic type like Beetys?

ComeOVeneer · 22/11/2006 14:16

Anyone interested add your name here .

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/11/2006 14:18

Brum - yes
Leeds - maybe

Rhubarb · 22/11/2006 14:18

No, they're thinking of a quietish venue close to a Travelodge. Possible an all dayer with other Mumsnetters joining at whatever time they get there.

Someone's found a venue that serves food and can arrange a room that is "relaxed" and is a stone's throw from the Travelodge that obv has a free car park!

Paddlechick666 · 22/11/2006 14:19

Leeds - Nope
Birmingham - maybe
Brighton - YES!

dependent on dd being happy to spend night with Grandma........

actually, re-phrase that to "dependent on ME being happy to spend night away from dd"!!!

mustrunmore · 22/11/2006 14:22

Ah, you didnt say it was a Waxys
If it was an all day only, and I can get there by train and no cab fares(or scav a lift) then I might be a 'yes'.

ilovecaboose · 22/11/2006 14:24

all dayer I would be interested in (even if I had to travel ) as could drive there and back and not have to worry about hotel costs.

ComeOVeneer · 22/11/2006 14:26

Mustrunmore the hotel is only £13 a head ifyou share with someone.

Rhubarb · 22/11/2006 14:28

All dayers if you want, stay overs if you want. The good thing about it being in the middle of the country is that a lot more people can choose to stay or not, thus eliminating costs.

mustrunmore · 22/11/2006 14:29

Was thinking more of leaving the kids for an overnight, but hotel would be the sensible way to go I think. Dont even know if dh is working that weekend, as I haven't done his rota onto the calendar for 2007 yet. Am only excited at the prospect of talking to people instead of lipreading!

nailpolish · 22/11/2006 14:29

lol @ you lot thinking birmingham is the middle of the country

Rhubarb · 22/11/2006 14:32

Ok, not middle but you get the drift! We've had this argument as to where the actual middle of the country is!

nailpolish · 22/11/2006 14:33

southerners think its watford

mustrunmore · 22/11/2006 14:35

Is the venue actually near a train station then?
Am now thinknig of leaving family with my Mum and nipping over from there! Kind of combining it with summer hol!

Rhubarb · 22/11/2006 14:41

Look in middle column of their website here it says that Birmingham New Street Station is just minutes away, 0.79 miles according to upmystreet.com.

mustrunmore · 22/11/2006 14:42

Ta. too lazy to look, as i'm trying to do this and play Buckaroo at the same time

Rhubarb · 22/11/2006 14:56

Birmingham's New Street has trains run by Virgin, Arriva and Central Trains, so it provides a direct service to just about anywhere. You can easily walk from the station to both the Travelodge and Waxy's. If you book your train in advance it's mucho cheapo.

So come on then, where are your excuses now then eh? Eh?

mustrunmore · 22/11/2006 15:09

Only excuse left now is if dh is working, so wont have a babysitter!

I know I'll end up getting an expensive ticket though; the cheap ones are like gold dust! When we go home by train, you either ring up too early for them to have been released, but then try a day later and they've all gone!

BTW, when dh met richard Branson last year, his opening greeting was 'hello, i got a return to Shrewsbury for £17 on your trains!

NappiesGalore · 22/11/2006 16:22

rhubarb, since youve thought it all out so thoroughly....it'd be rude not to really. count me in

(caveat: dp willing/able to look after the brood)

Rhubarb · 22/11/2006 16:41

Put your names down here please as this thread was just to gage opinions!

jampots · 22/11/2006 23:58

bham new street to broad street (depending on which end) is not a couple of minutes walk i can assure you. it may not be far as the crow flies but you wouldnt want to be doing it in your teetering heels now. dont forget there is also Birmingham International Railway Station which is right next to the airport for those wishing to fly in here also in a much nicer place than Birmingham city centre

JoolsToo · 23/11/2006 00:00

yes

if I wasn't on sodding holiday!

who came up with that date without consulting me first?

Rhubarb · 23/11/2006 10:36

0.75 miles from the Station to Waxy's so I'm presuming it's at the right end, but I know what you Londoners are like about walking anywhere (should have seen the looks I got on the tube when I suggested people walk instead of being crushed to death!), so I can assure you that there is a taxi rank outside the station that will deliver you to your destination in relative comfort!
