Been here 7yrs now have 2 ds's 2yrs and 6months and am married to a pom so looks like I'm here for the long run! The closest I get to an aussie now is watching neighbours (I know its quite pathetic). Anyway if there are any others who fancy a catch up, I'm in west london?

Kaybee7777 · 22/11/2006 16:16

I'm thinking of you!

Kaybee7777 · 23/11/2006 14:33

Still nothing! I am sure he's waiting until Sunday to come out!

Mellin · 23/11/2006 16:49

Hi,

Mind if I join in? Another Aussie mum in London who has just discovered the joys of Mumsnet! I have a dd (still getting to grips with the Mumsnet lingo) who is almost 4 weeks. Still in the throws of figuring out the whole motherhood thing but once dd is a little older I would be keen to join any meet-ups as will be gagging to get out of the house!
Been in the UK for 6 years (just got citizenship) and live in Fulham.

2quokkasandaparetree · 24/11/2006 08:54

Hi mellin, congrats on your little one and of course your welcome to join in whenever you want . I have ds1 2.5yrs and ds2 10 months and live in Gunnersbury (near Chiswick). I'm from Perth, but lived in Sydney and Melbourne before coming here 7yrs ago.

Things get easier once you get out of the baby haze (6-12 weeks). Sounds like your doing well if you've got the time to get onto mumsnet .

Kaybee why Sunday? Both of mine arrived on the weekend which is handy as you get free parking!

Kaybee7777 · 24/11/2006 10:35

Hi Mellin . I am a kiwi but kinda hijacked this thread as the kiwi's aren't very chatty! My first baby was due on Sunday but he hasn't arrived yet, hence all the moaning!

Quokka, I think he will come on sunday as my Dad leaves for NZ on Sat night!!!!! Typical stubborn bloody male knows Dad is desperate to see him so obviously won't come out until after he is gone

2quokkasandapeartree · 24/11/2006 10:36

oh shit shit shit shit!!!

Kaybee7777 · 24/11/2006 11:13

Yessss now you see why I have been desperate to get him out this week!

Mellin · 24/11/2006 13:38

Thanks for the welcome ladies!

I like your phrase quokka - "baby haze". Totally feels like that at present, wondering if there will ever be an end to the constant feeding and short restless sleep patterns. Plus the stressing about whether I am doing things right! Have found I can use the internet when she is napping in my lap - am hoping Mumsnet will help keep me sane!

Kaybee - when were you due? Nothing worse than the waiting waiting waiting. Where are you living and which hospital are you booked into? Quokka did you have yours at Hammersmith/Queen Charlotte?

2quokkasandapeartree · 24/11/2006 13:54

Mellin had both boys at QC they were great. Both were in the birth centre, even managed to have the same midwife. Did you have a postive birth?

Its doesn't feel like it now but the endless feeding and sleep deprevation will get get easier. Wait until you get your first smile!

Did you hear all that Kaybee .

Kaybee7777 · 24/11/2006 14:06

I was due on Sunday Mellin, so am only 5 days over, but it feels like FOREVER. I live in East London and am having baby at King George Hospital in Ilford.

Thanks Quokka, i am looking foward to all the good bits like smiles Just want to get this birth over and done with!

Found out that hospital doesn't actually use it's birthing pool so no chance of water birth now, and too late to switch. Am quite pissed off, they didn't bother to mention that when they gave the tour of the place....

Mellin · 24/11/2006 14:19

I was at QC birth centre too! Very positive birth experience, had a water birth which was brilliant and the staff were great.

Too bad about not being able to have a water birth Kaybee but I think the main things that contributed to my positive experience were a very supportive birth partner (dh), being prepared and thinking that it was going to be a lot worse than it actually was! I found I was a lot stronger mentally than I thought I was. I also did some antenatal yoga classes which helped with the whole breathing thing.

2quokkasandapeartree · 24/11/2006 14:52

snap mellin! I've been telling Kaybee to visualise and prepare but I think she thinks I'm a bit mad she might be right!

Kaybee7777 · 24/11/2006 15:01

Ha ha ha I don't think you're mad
I am feeling less panic ridden about it now that I was about a month ago. I just want to get it over and done with!

cori · 25/11/2006 17:45

Still hanging in there Kaybee?, I know how it feels I was overdue with both of mine.

Hello, Mellin and Congratulations on your new arrival. I also had my first at QC. I have two DS 4 years, and one 6 months. DS 2 has just started crawling.

Kaybee7777 · 26/11/2006 11:35

Hi Cori
yep I am still hanging in here, STILL no baby.... am now a week over Have run out of raspberry leaf tablets and don't know whether it's worth buying more or not! This is so frustrating!

Mellin · 26/11/2006 15:22

Kaybee - have you tried the old wives tales to bring on labour? A hot curry (maybe a trip to Brick Lane is in order) or sex?? Or maybe both
(first time i have used a smiley, hope it works!)
Don't stress it and get plenty of rest while you can. Easier said than done I know!

Oz girls,
What part of Oz are you from?

luckysmile · 26/11/2006 18:32

Hi Mellin, welcome!

I don't look at mumsnet often enough so I only drop in every few weeks. I'm another Australian, I've been here 10 years and I live very nearby you - in Chelsea but on the Chelsea Fulham border. We maybe at the same hospital. Which hospital are you going to use?

Poor you Kaybee. This may or may not make you feel any better, but in France the calculate the term differently - you are pregnany for 41 weeks, so if you use the French rule your not as overdue as you think. Sorry I have no advice on hurrying along your little one.... most people I know this year tried everything and 'still' went at least a week over.

2quokkasandapeartree · 26/11/2006 20:19

Mellin I'm from Perth but also lived in Sydney and Melbourne as well, what about you?

2quokkasandapeartree · 26/11/2006 20:25

Kaybee Don't worry too much about being past your due date both mine were and they showed no signs of being overcooked. I got alot of pressure put on me to be induced with ds2, I got quite upset about it but stood my ground. Your due date isn't exact mine have always changed 2-3 times during a pregnancy, hang in there girl!

Nice to hear from you Cori and luckysmile, where have you guys been?

Kaybee7777 · 27/11/2006 08:47

thanks quokka, I agreed to an induction date of 29th but now that's almost here I don't want it!!! I think I might try to contact mw today to see if I can change it to fri or something, as I want to give him a bit more time. I was in that mode last week of just wanting him to come asap, esp since Dad was here, but now it's too late for that so after thinking about it some more this whole induction thing doesn't sound ideal.
Did I tell you that just found on on fri that the birthing pool in my hospital hasn't been used in 3 years (though they didnt say that at tour) so no chance of water birth/labour. All my 'plans' are going up the spout!
