We can do Mon/Tue/Wed: That's me, ds1 (9) and ds2 (7), possibly dh. Flexible about location.

Any takers? Suggestions for venues?

OK, I'm back! It sounds as though Thursday is going to work. Where are we meeting? Any thoughts or suggestions?

What is there actually at Bowness? (I must admit we usually drive through and shudder at the crowds!) But I know you can hire rowing boats or go on a bigger boat. Is there a picnic area or a playground, or an area to paddle down by the lake?

I should know but don't!
all I know is the paved area at the front of the lake! - what about Brockhole again? or Fellfoot - room to move

I wouldn't do Bowness - too full of tourists and difficult to keep your eye on 3 kids in the hustle and bustle.

Fell foot is nice - you can picnic, there is a park, feed the ducks, have a brew and take a short ferry trip to and from the train station just across the lake.

Oh and it's free to park if you are NT member

Yes Fell Foot is nice - scrummy cakes in the cafe (it always rains when we go to Fell Foot so we always end up in the cafe!)

Location is very easy - you don't have to go through Kendal/Windermere/Ambleside traffic; the A590 is usually OK.

Does Fell Foot suit everybody?

fine by me!

Fine by me too - what time are you thinking of meeting. Just trying to work out if I can just drive up from Manchester Thursday morning rather than coming the night before - it's only an hour to mums so should be doable.

We will probably be going early and leaving early iyswim (we have to be back for piano lesson at 5, and we're off on holiday on Friday), but basically staying all day.

I'm trying to visualise the place, but we haven't been for ages, and I keep visualising Brockhole!

GDG - could you suggest a meeting point, where we can plonk our picnic rugs, bags, and so on - and basically everyone head there whenever they arrive? It's not exactly huge, is it, and my boys can potter off and explore by themselves whilst I read a book and wait for everyone to turn up!

What time is 'early'?

Once you've parked in the carpark, you walk down to the main park - it's all downhill. You go down some twisty turny paths and then come onto a straight path going down toward the lake. On the left you will see the children's play area and ahead of you the lake. As you come down the path, gone past the play area, to the right is a huge lawned area with the lake stretched out in front. If you set up anywhere on that 'field' we would find you as it's a big open space.

Jools - I'll come and pick you up first. You'll have to be up early - hehehe!

If we're venturing out of Bowness/Windermere then I'll have to bring dh and the children as we will have vacated our hotel by the time we meet and we only have the one car (obviously).

Jampots - of course you are very welcome to bring dh and the children! I haven't asked dh yet if he wants to come: I think he probably won't this time, but you never know.

Can you swim/paddle at Fell Foot? It is really bugging me that I can't visualise the place at all (apart from the cafe and the boathouse).

If you are coming do you want to CAT me, or email me if you have my email address, and we can swap mobile numbers to assist communication/meeting up if necessary!

Who wants to suggest a rendezvous time?

Jampots, Fell Foot is not far from Bowness at all. If you take the road out of Bowness toward the A590 as if you are going back to the M6, you come to Fell Foot on your right just as you are nearing the A590.

Roisin, I tried to see if there was a site map for Fell Foot but there wasn't one on the website.

Regarding times, if I come on Thursday am I can probably be there for 10.30 to 11 if I leave Manchester at 8ish (need to pick up Jools first).

Not bringing dh as he's at work but will have the boys with me!

look here

From Bowness just take the A592 right alongside Windemere south toward the A590. Just stay on this road - it's really easy. Toward the end of the road the entrance to Fell Foot will be on your right (it looks like it should be left on this map but it honestly isn't!) - it's quite a small entrance so you need to look out for it. If you get to the end of the road you've gone too far so go round the roundabout and back up and it will be on your left, not too far down.

HTH! Looking forward to meeting you both!
