Getting exciting now Grin Wink!

OP posts:

Marking spot.

Busy weekend unpacking and constructing Ikea stuff. I now have all my clothes in wardrobes. Iurns out that I don't need 90% of them given that I have lived out of two pairs of jeans and a few tops for the last three weeks.

Scottish - Sad at your ds's reaction to baby news and your reaction to his reaction. Lots of best wishes for this year. I'm an only child and I'm fine Wink.

Gig good to hear you sounding positive and strong.

Deb - typical to get a bug after a few days in a school isn't it. Hope you are feeling better.

TheScottishPlayer · 06/03/2012 22:15

Thanks LaG. If we get good news at some point you'll probably all be among the first to know!

How is everyone this week? DH away in London and it's a horrible windy night here - the house is rattling away which gives me the heebie jeebies!

Dizzy, how is your job going. That's been a couple of weeks now I think? I wanted to pick your brains actually (and anyone else who wants to throw their tuppence in) on gardening with little people. DS is obsessed with doing some 'planting' now that we're getting into Spring. We have a flower free garden and stick to a few zero low maintenance shrubs which we replace when we've finished them off. Any suggestions of good things to plant with him at this time of year? Preferably in a tub or something suitably portable.

Gig, are you fed up with people asking how you are yet? If so, I shan't ask Wink How is DD getting on at pre-school?

LaGuerta · 07/03/2012 11:26

Scottish - it turns out I have bought a very windy house. The amazing views also make it quite exposed. What's more when it is windy like it is now, the wind does something strange round our bedroom and sort of sings/howls. Poor DS1 already has a bit of a wind hang up making this house not exactly his dream home. Either he will end up with a lifelong hang up or the house will knock it out of him.

Half of our electrics went out last night including the boiler. Got an electrician out this morning who set the fusebox back and now it was fine Confused at least the house is warming up now.

TheScottishPlayer · 07/03/2012 13:54

We had a wierd electricity thing recently LaG - all of the sockets and some lights went, but nothing had tripped in our fusebox. I did some googling and did some research and found out how to reset the box and everything was fine. Apparently, modern fuseboxes might do this if there is a problem temporarily with something plugged in to protect the system. I was a bit paranoid about it but everything has been fine since. However, we have got an old extension lead that we use so I always make sure that's turned off before bed - which reminds me, we really must replace it.

Sympathies on the wind - it's my least favourite type of weather. I hope it cures DS of his wind hang up! Our house backs on to a sort of square so the wind gets trapped and howls round. I hate it.

Gigondas · 08/03/2012 05:54

Did a long post but phone ate it. Am not too bad Scottish- just between trying to take it easy so scar heals and with dd2 am bit knackered.

Off to france this weekend tho so that is good (taking my mum to help).

Sympathies re electric issues - it took us 5 years (and numerous electrician visits) to work out why our fuse box went everytime there is a storm. Turned out there was an unconnected wire on our patio (set up for one of those out door electrics ) that blew the box every time it seriously rained.

Poor ds1 lag- I am not keen on noise of wind but can you pretend house is his special safe den.

Scottish - we are rubbish gardeners with hit and miss record on growing things but strawberries , tomatoes as plants go well and sunflower seeds a winner as are those white/yellow daisy type things you can grow (fried egg plants). You can also buy potato planters which are quite good.

Gigondas · 08/03/2012 05:54

Hi to everyone else

DizzyDancing · 08/03/2012 21:24

Hi everyone, quick post. SP - I would second what Gig says about fruit/veg - relatively easy to grow and the kids can eat it! DS1 loved picking and eating his own tomatoes last year - he was so proud of himself! We also grew courgette and made an amazing chocolate and courgette cake Grin.

TheScottishPlayer · 08/03/2012 21:53

Thanks Dizzy and Gig for planting suggestions. Do you think tomatoes would grow in the frozen north? Grin I like the idea of fruit/veg generally though especially as DS loves baking. We made some courgette muffins recently as it happens, but chocolate and courgette cake sounds MUCH better!

TheScottishPlayer · 12/03/2012 09:20

Morning all. How was everyone's weekend? Bit of a dull one hear - I've been floored with some kind of sinus/head cold type thing which has left me feeling rotten. Thankfully DH is off today so he's on parental duties so I can be a bit lazy.

How was France Gig - are you back yet?

Gigondas · 12/03/2012 17:46

Just back and it was lovely. My mum came too and we did loads of stuff (and I ate loadsWink) . Even managed to get "date" in as dh and I went for dinner on Saturday. Mini gig sleeping miles better too and was great in car (midi gig or dd1 was a bloody nightmare in her car seat for first year).

Sorry you are POorly again Scottish - you only just got over a cold.

Appt tomorrow to find out re radio therapy- want to do this now so can get it out way but know that will have a downer as oncologist whilst an excellent dr isn't the best on communications . So am asking now for distracting/funny stories post visit tomorrow Smile

Also am Hmm re school- wrote in dd1 diary that she wouldn't be in on Friday etc. got a call on answer phone from school on Friday asking where she is (have used book before so never had an issue like this in past). Thought things were getting better as had excellent sub teacher now but seems like communications an issue again. Just as well it wasnt anything important in there .

Gigondas · 12/03/2012 17:48

Posted on thread re age for babies sleeping in own room... Wish I hadnt. Saying I feed mini gig fruitshoots and had her ears pierced would get less vehemence .

TheScottishPlayer · 12/03/2012 17:56

Glad to hear you had a good w/e Gig. Well deserved.

Where's this other thread? I had a greggs sausage roll the other day. It was lovely - and I gave DS a bite Grin

DizzyDancing · 12/03/2012 19:22

Ooh, have to link Gig! Grin We'll on wade in and defend you!

Glad you had a nice w/e - what time is your appt so I can text you some funny stories Smile.

Had a lovely weekend - went to see Billy Elliott on Saturday with my mum, was absolutely the best musical I've ever seen, amazing!

Gigondas · 12/03/2012 19:45

Half nine so may have to hit shops after for therapy.

My dad also loved that musical as did a friend and both were dragged under duress.

It's on sleep thread. Am a bit sensitive about it as both dd were in own room at 6 weeks but I am paranoid about all other sleep advice, am in checking through the night (even on dd1) - also room (and cots) are about 5 yards away so you can hear breathing (or snoring in dh caseWink),

TheScottishPlayer · 12/03/2012 20:26

Gig, I put DS in his own room quite early on - about 8 weeks I think. I was always in checking, doing the night feeds and I had a baby monitor up loud. I haven't seen the other thread but I think it's ironic that people bang on about how SIDS say you should have babies in your room but MN is full of co-sleepers which SIDS says is dangerous Confused

Gigondas · 12/03/2012 20:43

I know and it's the implication that you are willfully doing stuff to your kids like you don't care.

DizzyDancing · 12/03/2012 21:00

DS1 went into his own room at 4 mths when he outgrew his Moses basket -however, he went upstairs to bed at about 6wks so from 7pm til 10ish was sleeping on his own.

DS2 was 7mths when he went into his own room - but, and a big but, he slept on his tummy virtually from day one Blush Sad. I'm not proud of it but he was a shocking sleeper and never settled on his back. I had to have him right next to me so I could sleep with one eye open Sad.

We do what works for us - don't berate yourself about it x

TheScottishPlayer · 12/03/2012 21:13

Oh, I forgot about putting him upstairs - I probably did that from about 4 weeks too. Dizzy's right - you make the best decisions for your DC based on what works best for you. I always think those who are really judgy and sanctimonious about parenting on MN are those horrible friendless passive aggressive types you come across in RL.

Gigondas · 13/03/2012 10:56

Grinat passive aggressive people. I don't feel too bad until read stuff like that.

Oncologist appt went ok - she was loads better. I can start treatment in a couple of weeks (either week before or after Easter) . 6 weeks of daily weekday appt so have asked for early appt to get it done .

The most amusing thing is I get a mould of my arse/legs (you have it to keep you in place on the table)

DizzyDancing · 13/03/2012 18:18

That will make an interesting talking piece in years to come Gig Grin!

Gigondas · 13/03/2012 18:23

Strange you should say that -dh wants to ask if can keep it Grin

DizzyDancing · 13/03/2012 18:27

I think you should - display it on your wall, or sell it to the Tate Grin!

Gigondas · 13/03/2012 18:41

Dd is looking at me and asking why I am laughing like a loony Smile

DizzyDancing · 13/03/2012 19:28
Grin
Gigondas · 14/03/2012 08:51

Agh. Please tell me that the stroppy shouting and tantrums ESP when tired is an age thing...
