Any top tips for low-carb weight loss? Totally new to this way of doing things, have only ever limited overall calories or sweet treats before so all advice welcome. I’m a fussy eater with a busy schedule, so the easier the better.

Also, is there a good app for low-carb dieting? Ideally a free one, or one with a one-off fee rather than a subscription.

Thanks all.

First you want to calculate your macros and aim for the right amount of fat, protein and carbs. Try to keep under 20g net carbs a day if possible. You can possibly get into ketosis on more than this, up to around 50g, but the lower carbs will help weight loss.

Remember this is a high fat diet, that's the bulk of your calories and only moderate protein. Eat enough fat to be satiated.

Cronometer is a good free app to track what you're eating. Make sure you're getting enough vitamins and minerals from low carb veggies.

The first week especially you'll lose a lot of water weight and need to have lots of electrolytes, lo salt in water is a good source of potassium, plenty of sea salt on food and a magnesium supplement is a good idea.

Before you start it's a good idea to prepare and stock up on keto foods, including some convenience foods and/or batch cook freezer meals etc, and find some recipes that you live. Be careful with so called keto cookbooks and recipes though, as some of them really aren't low carb enough unless you're fasting all day and only eating one meal a day!

After the first few days or so your appetite should go down quite a bit, and it's easier to do intermittent fasting which is great for weight loss.

Good luck!

There's a fantastic low carb boot camp just started on the 17th, tons of resources support and @BIWI is super knowledgeable.

BIWI · 21/01/2022 16:29

Thank you @stayathomegardener Blush

@BaconOmelette you're very welcome to come and join us on Bootcamp - we only started on Monday so it's a great time to join us.

Here's the first week's thread if you're interested

Oh, and it's entirely free Grin

Fab thanks everyone. We’ve done a big Keto-friendly (I hope!) shop today and donated our leftover carbs to family members to remove temptation.

I’ll come and join you now @BIWI

I’m new too.
I’m not calculating fat or carbs or protein, I’m eating whenever I’m hungry and have cut my carbs right down.

No fruit except a small cup of raspberries or blackberries or strawberries.
TONNES of veg but no carrots, beetroot, potatoes, sweet potatoes or squash or other high carb veg.
No sugar.
No liquid apart from water, black tea, black coffee.
No bread, pasta, rice etc.
Lots of meat, eggs, cheese, clotted cream, olives, nuts, seeds.
I have some 100% chocolate (Montezuma absolute black, all 5 flavours) and I’m cooking all my food now in duck fat.

I’m absolutely loving it!
I’ve lost a stone in just over two weeks, I’m eating enormous amounts of delicious food and have no real cravings at all for carbs now Smile
