RynneAdele · 23/08/2021 19:07

Hello, I am in my first week of the cambridge diet and wondering if anyone has also recently started and would like to share our journeys or if anyone has done the cambridge diet and can give advice or inspiration?

expensive but effective

velvetstar · 23/08/2021 19:27

I'm 17 weeks in and 80lbs down. It's tough but really worth it. Good luck Smile

Anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 23/08/2021 19:33

I just restarted today after a an aborted attempt a few months ago. It's not been too bad. Roll on the day 4 headaches!

80lbs in 17weeks is amazing

RynneAdele · 23/08/2021 20:20

Velvetstar, wow that's amazing!

Good luck, I am on day 6 and did not get headache or anything on day 4. I hope to have lost something tomorrow!

Good luck!

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 24/08/2021 09:10

I feel ok on day 2. I woke up feeling ridiculously energised and I find I don't need as much sleep when I get into the swing of things

RynneAdele · 24/08/2021 09:32

Oh good, I feel the same, I have more energy than before! I am looking forward to getting some different options today!

I'm sticking to shakes and ready made
Coffees this week. Keeping it simple until I get the hang of it

RynneAdele · 24/08/2021 13:43

I have lost 8 pounds in my first week, I am so pleased and have got more options to chose from, I will go onto shakes and that if the weight loss starts to slow in a week or so

Not on it but lost eight stone on it many years ago. Eventually put it all back on plus another three for good measure! Very effective for losing weight, absolutely awful for maintaining. You will wreck your metabolism and your body will be DESPERATE to put weight back on when you stop. Sorry to piss on your chips but I don't know anyone who hasn't regained. Save yourself the heartache and stop. But good luck if you continue. Meant with kindness xxx

I'm sorry this didn't work for you

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 25/08/2021 09:56

I'd be happy to read into the evidence of the metabolism ruin but everything I've read so far pretty much says it's a myth.

My idea is to follow the steps of the plan and then when I reach goal, to use their 1500 cals and above suggestion and eat well but everything in moderation. Plus exercise. At my current weight exercise is pretty much impossible but once I've lost 12 stones I imagine I'll have the energy and strength to burn off a reasonable amount of calories.

Day three for me. I feel ok. Didn't sleep well but I think it was my body going into ketosis as I remember having a few sleepless nights when I've started before.

Imissmybum · 25/08/2021 11:37

Have a read of this article www.nytimes.com/2016/05/02/health/biggest-loser-weight-loss.html

And also this www.vogue.co.uk/beauty/article/why-dieting-doesnt-work

Both a good starting point to understand why diets don't work.

Imissmybum · 25/08/2021 11:39

Sorry on phone, don't know if those links worked. Google 'the biggest loser New York times' - article in the New York Times.

And 'andrew Jenkinson diets'.

12 stone to lose? Poor you. I really feel for you. Yes don't bother with exercise it will make naff all difference. Please do read that biggest loser article. I know it sounds like I'm raining on your parade. I guess I am. I had 11 stone to lose. Dieted for 20 years. It wasn't that the Cambridge diet 'didnt work' for me - it did I lost weight. But then it suddenly doesn't.
SpicyJalfrezi · 25/08/2021 11:42

That applies to any diet, I would think.

I’ve always found Cambridge effective, although there are cheaper alternatives available.

Imissmybum · 25/08/2021 11:48

Really sorry, won't post here again. Guess I feel evangelical about what I've learnt about metabolism and ultra processed food etc etc and want to save people the pain I've experienced with these awful diets. Good luck to you all. Flowers

SpicyJalfrezi · 25/08/2021 11:50

I’ve two stone to lose and you’ve inspired me. I’ve messaged someone to start on the 1st September.

Orangesandlemons77 · 25/08/2021 11:55

Not Cambridge but I'm doing Exante which I think is similar
It recommends using the products to maintain afterwards which I'm going to try. Maybe less of them 1/2 a day. Of course if you just go back to the eating which made you put on weight in the first place you would regain. I guess it depends on if you see it as a quick fix or change your eating for the long term.

I get it, I really do. But this is a diet I can do that I know I'll get results on. But like another poster put, all diets work until they don't. I think it'll be 12 months of shakes then a lifetime of healthy eating. The way I live/eat now is unsustainable and I'm so miserable at 24 stone. I'd like to think that once I'm at that elusive healthy weight that it would be easier to maintain it at 12 stone through healthy eating and exercise than it is to loose weight through the same means whilst at such a huge weight

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 25/08/2021 15:07

That biggest loser guy lost on average 34lbs per month according to that article. Plus on the show they literally work out ALL DAY. That's not going to be sustainable once you get back to normal life!

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 25/08/2021 15:12

I mean...

  • Mr. Cahill set a goal of a 3,500-caloric deficit per day. The idea was to lose a pound a day. He quit his job as a land surveyor to do it. His routine went like this: Wake up at 5 a.m. and run on a treadmill for 45 minutes. Have breakfast — typically one egg and two egg whites, half a grapefruit and a piece of sprouted grain toast. Run on the treadmill for another 45 minutes. Rest for 40 minutes; bike ride nine miles to a gym. Work out for two and a half hours. Shower, ride home, eat lunch — typically a grilled skinless chicken breast, a cup of broccoli and 10 spears of asparagus. Rest for an hour. Drive to the gym for another round of exercise. If he had not burned enough calories to hit his goal, he went back to the gym after dinner to work out some more. At times, he found himself running around his neighborhood in the dark until his calorie-burn indicator reset to zero at midnight.*
anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 25/08/2021 15:12

Strike through fail
But you get the idea

RynneAdele · 03/09/2021 12:48

anguauberwaldironfoundersson how are you getting on?
