I'm totally sick of slimming world, have followed it on and off for a few years, lost 5 stone and put 4 stone back on.
Anyway, I need to lose weight again and low carb high fat appeals.
I can live without pasta and potato, bread is my downfall tho but I'm determined.
My plan is steaks, chicken and rice with lots of veg. Full fat yogurt and berries. Eggs, cheese, butter.
Does this sound ok? Any tips very welcome.
I also have a sweet tooth so any tips to curb that are welcome.
Thankyou, I can do this!!🍳🧀

Oooh I agree Nemo, low carbing does keep you feeling full for longer. We had Chinese food this evening - noodles etc - and an hour later I was hungry again!

Do you have a Fitbit or anything similar? Mine shows me how many calories I've (supposedly!) burned - might help you work out if there's a discrepancy between how many you need/ want.

Hmmm, well, it was a productive break from the DTs but now of course the house is a tip again! Once they are finally back at school I think I'll have to take it a room at a time, I'll have a couple of child-free hours per day which should give me enough time to do most of the house by the end of the week. Unless of course I decide to enjoy myself with Cake and Wine in their absence instead Grin

I've downloaded a carb manager app to keep an eye on calories too. I've only.lost 1lb again this week which is slow for me. on slimming world I would lose 3-4lb a week.
Although my trousers do feel loser. And I'm not hungry and I feel less sluggish.

I want that feeling back Nemo..... I wake up every day absolutely shattered at the moment!!

The DC are FINALLY back at school though, yippee, and I am planning a big food shop at the weekend. At last I should have some time and energy to make proper meals again Grin

How is your week going?

NemoIsLost · 06/09/2019 19:41

Ruby I'm having 2nd thoughts about this low carbing. I love it, I love the full feeling it gives me, but the weight loss is really slow and I'm missing fresh fruit and rice.
On slimming world I ate loads of fresh fish, veg, meat and rice and lots of fresh fruit.
I started another thread with my concerns. I'm finding the balance of high fat and low carb confusing. I'm loving full fat Greek yogurt and cheese but worried it's too much fat😩
I don't know what to do!

Oh yes, SW does encourage you to eat plenty of fruit! I think low carbing focuses on veg instead (and less carby veg - things like broccoli are preferable to peas, sweetcorn etc). And as far as I know you should always go for the 'normal' version of salad cream, yogurt etc rather than low fat/ fat free, as they can be loaded with sugar/ sweeteners etc.

I'm not a big fan of rice so I don't/ wouldn't miss it but could you try cauliflower rice instead?

Hopefully we can both join the next bootcamp thread and get some clarification!

Hi @RubySlippers77 how are things?
I'm continuing with the low carb hi fat, although I had a jacket potato today as I was out and not much else was available.
I lost another Lb this week which I was pleased about. Just had salmon, with a pile of veg cooked in butter. I'm so full!!

Hey Nemo!

I'm on day 3 of my new healthy eating 'streak' (inspired by the 100 healthy days thread!). I'm also doing low carb, will admit that I've had a few pieces of dark chocolate, but it's good quality dark stuff and I just needed a little pick me up!

Need to add in a bit of exercise - something that gets the heart rate up - I'm on about 15K steps per day but it's not difficult for me, IYSWIM. Once the house is less of a tip I'll have time to do my 30 Day Shred DVD occasionally

I read 'The Obesity Code' recently, have you seen that one? It says that the obesity epidemic can be blamed on 'bad' carbs and things like artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup etc. Recommends cutting them all out and fasting as well. Don't think I can manage the fasting though!!

NemoIsLost · 11/09/2019 22:48

Glad you're back on it Ruby 15k steps is amazing! I manage 12k when I'm at work,
.I walk the dog every day but other than that I don't do any structured excercise.
I have read the obesity code, it's quite interesting, the use of sweetners started off all this and now you have a job to get something without sweetnersHmm
I struggle with my sweet tooth and have honey on my Greek yogurt but at least I'm not shovelling biscuits and chocolate down my throat like I was!
I couldn't fast, although today I didn't eat until mid day apart from a cuppa,

Yes, it was interesting that sweeteners were created to help with weight loss and now (the scientists think) they are actually causing more problems than they solve! That's one thing I didn't like about WW/ SW, lots of their products are loaded with additives like sweeteners to make them low point/ syn. Surely it's better to educate your taste buds to not want these things as often? (If only that would work with me and Cake!!)

I'm happy now with my bit of dark chocolate a couple of times a day. I do usually have a hot chocolate every day too made with this stuff: www.sweetfreedom.co.uk/products/choc-shot/ which I think is amazing and very yummy! They do a fruit syrup too which I use in baking and making fruit compote instead of ladling in the sugar or sweeteners.

It's actually been a productive week and I have lost 3lb since last Friday!! (I think maybe half of that was due to AF finishing and less water retention but I'll take any encouragement I can get!) Made an enormous batch of minestrone soup last night and had it for lunch and dinner today, then DP came home with an Indian takeaway Confused I've had a bit as I was still peckish, will save the rest for tomorrow night as he's out at a wedding.

I would love to have a dog Nemo but it's tricky with small DC as they don't understand the responsibilities that come with it! We'll have to stick with our grumpy cat for now Grin

NemoIsLost · 13/09/2019 22:43

I've seen the sweet freedom must try some. I've done really well this week and felt full with 3 meals a day and no snacks but tonight a bag of m and m's fell in my mouth😂 I blame DS as someone gave him them and he doesn't like them!
I really hate muller lights and mug shots, the thought of them makes me🤮
give me ff Greek yogurt and chicken with crispy skin!

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 16/09/2019 23:46

I must buy some more Sweet Freedom actually!

Bit of a rubbish weekend for me, really busy, DP was out at a wedding on Saturday (then hungover on Sunday!) so I was busy with the DC..... out at a car show on Sunday too which meant zero food choice, it was all burgers/ chips/ sausages. And today's been mega busy too (18K steps) and I scoffed a pizza as I hadn't had time to cook Sad

Onwards and upwards for this week. And yes, Muller Lights, Mug Shots etc look horrid..... although I remember an uproar at work amongst the SW devotees when Pasta & Sauce stopped being syn free!!

NemoIsLost · 17/09/2019 19:00

sounds very hectic Ruby!
it's so tough when the food choices arn't good. I had a lovely big jacket potato in a cafe the other day as it was either that or a sandwich.
I was surprised to lose 3lb this week which has spurred me on abit. I've just made a shepherds pie using Swede mash, it was very nice!
I can't believe I used to eat mugshots😯

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 17/09/2019 23:53

LOL - mugshots are full of mystery ingredients!!

Having said that, tonight's dinner was provided by Pizza Hut Blush - we were very late home as FIL kept saying "One more thing" when I picked up the DC - and frankly I am knackered!

Will have to check if the low carb bootcamp starts soon. Solidarity might help me through.....
