I'm totally sick of slimming world, have followed it on and off for a few years, lost 5 stone and put 4 stone back on.
Anyway, I need to lose weight again and low carb high fat appeals.
I can live without pasta and potato, bread is my downfall tho but I'm determined.
My plan is steaks, chicken and rice with lots of veg. Full fat yogurt and berries. Eggs, cheese, butter.
Does this sound ok? Any tips very welcome.
I also have a sweet tooth so any tips to curb that are welcome.
Thankyou, I can do this!!🍳🧀

It's so hard when the DC are at home to keep to any sort of plan. How old are they?
Well done for only having fries tho! good self control.
I'm up for work and trying to face some sort of breakfast although the thought makes me feel abit ill, I've gone for yogurt and blackberries with cup of coffee. If I don't eat now I won't get another chance till about 11am😏

I'd like to stick with a low carb diet as it makes sense and is healthy / easy to follow but I do a lot of travelling with my job and sandwiches are always easy, cheap and there. Any ideas for food on the go which is varied and low carb (apart from the spinach and egg pot!) . I get so tired that a quick carb boost seems so appealing !

NemoIsLost · 19/08/2019 21:38

It does take a bit of getting used to not having a sandwiches. I need to plan ahead. I've been taking salad to work, with mackeral and cheese but I imagine I.will get bored of that.
Love to hear other people's tips!

Well done Nemo 👏

RubySlippers77 · 19/08/2019 22:06

My DTs are almost 4. I spend all day trying to stop all out war between them. It is wearing Sad

Pret are good for low carb options @Smaz00, they do some great salads. For stuff you can make yourself, things like quiche (www.aprettylifeinthesuburbs.com/crustless-quiche/) are handy; do you have access to a microwave to heat up other meals?

I agree though, sarnies are very handy, low carbing can be tricky sometimes!

mooncuplanding · 19/08/2019 22:13

@smaz00

I've been low carbing for quite some time now and also travel a lot. You do find that pretty much everywhere is ALL THE CARBS when out and about however....

  • I fast quite a bit when I am travelling. The more you are lo-carb, the less you get that overwhelming hunger so often I'll just wait until I'm home or until at the hotel - and they always have something
  • if I need something to eat though, Supermarkets always do a few things - cold meats, little pieces of cheese, a ham and egg salad, tapas bites, pork scratchings and nuts
  • Pret do a great crayfish & avocado salad
  • Subway salads
-McDonalds will even do a bun-less burger. I've never been that desperate but I know people who have!

There is always something, you learn where to find it the more you do this.

Smaz00 · 19/08/2019 22:49

That's really helpful @mooncuplanding and @RubySlippers77 - thanks! The fasting idea is good too - I don't have a big appetite so can usually last a while . I guess it's
just thinking about it early enough and planning ahead so you're not tempted to just grab something sweet and carby..

NemoIsLost · 20/08/2019 10:59

I do find I need to plan As I work shifts so I'm all over the place. But since low carbing I don't feel hungry. Normally I would wake up starving and have toast and biscuits but now I have a cuppa then will have brunch depending on if I'm at work.
My favourite thing at the moment is full fat Greek yogurt with rasberries, a spoonful of honey and a sprinkle of chia seeds, so creamySmile

RubySlippers77 · 21/08/2019 09:42

Totally agree with the planning Nemo. The other thing about low carbing is that you can eat loads of fresh veg/ meat/ fish etc but of course you have to buy/ store/ freeze it to make the most of it! Whereas things like bread, cakes, crisps etc are always there and last a long time.

Can't believe I feel so much worse than I did a month ago, when I'd lost some weight low carbing and was actually pretty energetic. Think it's a combination of eating crap again and 5000 weeks of school holidays with almost no break from the DC.....

NemoIsLost · 21/08/2019 11:30

I remember the school holidays, they are looooong and tiring! You feel you need a quick fix of something comforting and stodgy as a rewardGrin
I'm finding it quite stressful prepping meals, walking the dog and working shifts. Before I used to grab a sandwich and toast, cakes and biscuits!
But I'm determined to stick with it as I feel so much better

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 22/08/2019 00:12

These holidays have lasted around 500 weeks so far Nemo. There has been much Cake consumed Sad

It is hard work doing the prepping, I will agree. I'm just not a natural/ enthusiastic cook, I find it all hard work, plus having small DC under my feet makes it even trickier! It's better once I have time to portion up meals and freeze some.

Please do stick with it, I wish I had. I felt 100 times better a month ago - I now feel ancient and knackered! Daren't venture back to the scales!!

NemoIsLost · 22/08/2019 10:09

Ruby maybe once the DC go back to school you will get your mojo back. Just concentrate on getting through the holidays first.
I had coffee and cake yesterday a massive slice as it was someone's birthday and all there was is cake!!
I've got a horrible headache this morning, I wonder if it's connected....

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 22/08/2019 23:15

Honestly Nemo I felt loads better when low carbing, so perhaps sadly it was the cake...

All I can think of is ploughing through to the end of the school hols - then making a fresh start at it, possibly joining a boot camp on here if there is one!

I don't get much time to exercise, maybe a run once a week, but that makes me feel better too (afterwards. Not during!). I do do lots of steps though, 15K per day on average.

How did you find the SW diet, by the way? I found it a bit fiddly with all the syns, HEAs and HEBs, but know people who love it!

NemoIsLost · 23/08/2019 05:30

I don't exercise much but I do walk the dog every day and always average 10-12k steps at work.
I loved SW for about a year and it did work for me but just got bored of the counting syns and I had to write everything down so I knew what I was up to, and I never want to see another HiFi bar as long as I liveGrin

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 23/08/2019 23:26

Nemo you have just reminded me of the horrors of Scan Bran Shock

I guess a lot depends on your SW group, mine really wasn't very inspiring, I mainly lost the weight because I had the time/ motivation to do it at that point. Now I have neither! I noticed that I'm even getting a bit agoraphobic because I never go out in the evenings and rarely socialise with friends (and without DC) during the day - maybe once a month for a coffee. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine hauling the DC out to the park or whatever, but the thought of going to a social event frightens me a bit. Part of that is lack of confidence - I don't feel like I have anything interesting to talk about any more - and part of it is my weight, thinking people will be judging me for being heavier than I used to Sad

I'm keeping an eye on the low carb bootcamp thread in the hope that one will start soon; if not, I'll start myself from September 2nd!

NemoIsLost · 24/08/2019 09:14

I know what you mean about socialising! I hate it! unless it's dinner with a friend or something. Thing is I work with people all day at work (nurse) so I'm all peopled put when I get home and like nothing more than being aloneGrin
And omg scan bran, should be banned, and I could never bring myself to like overnight oats, just had the texture of vomitShock

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 24/08/2019 22:19

I just get nervous now Nemo meeting groups of people, worry that I'm boring them as my life is pretty much only seeing the DC. I meet a friend for coffee every few months, and another friend for lunch about the same frequency, but that's it..... oh and one night out this year with two friends but it was only to a pub for dinner. I couldn't afford to eat there and was driving so not exactly a riotous night out!

Can understand about the nursing; I actually started nurse training many years ago, did about 18 months of a 4 year course, it was hard work!! And depending on what ward you were on it could be constant pressure, on your feet, listening/ responding to people etc.

I never found a recipe where scan bran actually tasted ok. And I speak as someone who quite likes bran flakes, All Bran etc.....

Wasted day here as DTS2 lost my car keys and we played Hunt the Keys for HOURS. He was very fed up as we wouldn't go out and play till they were found (only car key as he broke the other one!). And then at bedtime he went for his last wee only for the toilet seat to fall down on a rather sensitive place Sad we've cleaned up the blood, put antiseptic cream on and covered up with a nappy, then he finally went to sleep after a dose of Calpol. It looks like he'll have quite a big cut, poor little boy; I did try calling 111 for advice but they told me he'd have to be awake for them to help me. Not very useful at all!

NemoIsLost · 25/08/2019 06:33

omg what a dayShock where were the car keys?!

poor little mite, I expect he will be a bit tender this morning, although they usually bounce back quite quickly at that age!
I take my hat off to you running after twins! My friend has 2 sets of twins😲 although they are older now I recall total chaos in her house quite regularly, it was always such a nice place to visit tho, lots of fun then I could go home and escape the mess

I've just had cold sausages before my shift, not sure that was a good idea at 5am!
Hope you have a good dayFlowers

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 25/08/2019 21:07

The keys were hidden in one of my shoes on the shoe rack by the front door! DP said that as soon as he found them, DTS2 miraculously remembered that that was where he'd hidden them Hmm still, it taught him a lesson that he can't do fun things if he does silly things like that, and it taught us a lesson because we got the other car key mended today.....

Yes, he was still sore this morning, poor little thing - wanted to wear a nappy all day (presumably to avoid bashing himself!). Then he got overtired this evening and had a massive meltdown. Hats off to your friend with two sets of twins, I think that would send me over the edge!!

Hope your shift went ok after your savoury breakfast.....!

No progress here on the low carbing front or even on the 'attempting a diet' front, really. Just knackered and waiting for the school to open again so I can have some me time and plan things out again. Only 8 days to go Grin

NemoIsLost · 26/08/2019 21:08

Ruby 8 days and counting eh?🤣 I remember those days! I wouldn't worry about low carbing until they go back. Was proud of myself at work today, some twit put a load of cakes in the staff room and I resisted!
I can see me getting fed up with Greek yogurt tho, I need to get the books out and try some different recipes

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 26/08/2019 22:49

Very impressed by your self control Nemo!

We went to a car show today, it was baking, very little shade and drinks were £££. I was so pleased I'd packed my own cool bag of water! Now, if only I can apply the same planning skills to food.....

I've been making oat pancakes for breakfast (and nibbling on them through the day), would that be an option or is it too high carb for you?

NemoIsLost · 27/08/2019 08:18

I'm.not sure Ruby what actual carbs I'm having or even if I'm doing it right!
After my 6lb loss last week I've only lost 1lb this week so I'm abit disappointed.
I've had no potato,rice,pasta,cereal
I've had meat, fish, veg, salad, cheese, eggs, and full fat yogurt. maybe I'm having too many berries with my yogurt? Also have a squirt of honey.
I cook in olive oil or butter......Confused

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 27/08/2019 23:39

Have you had a look at the book 'Neris & India's Idiot Proof Diet' Nemo? I like their writing style anyway but it's got loads of low carb info in it too, plus some recipes. Maybe the 1lb this week is your body's way of stabilising the weight loss?

The DTs are off to MIL & FIL for a few hours tomorrow, I'm going to run various errands and get some (much needed) cleaning and tidying done. It's been ridiculously hot here today and DTS2 was an absolute horror all morning. It was such a relief when he had a nap and woke up less grumpy, bitey and horrid!

NemoIsLost · 31/08/2019 20:49

I will look at that book thanks Ruby
Hope you had a nice break from the DT the other day!
I'm plodding on with the low carbing. I'm not hungry atall.
I have been using a carb manager app and I'm keeping below 100g carbs a day but I think I'm eating too many calories Confused
