This year I’ve lost and regained the same stone 2 times

I do go back to keto I yoyo as life is hard and I need to work with my head more

So I’m looking for any keto buddies ?

I'm doing pretty well - 10lbs off in 7 weeks! Have got another couple of weeks left before holiday so I'll have a week off then (got to enjoy yourself on holiday and it's the first time I've been abroad in 15 years!!!!) then will get straight back to it until the C word in December
Hope everyone else is getting on ok too

Electrascoffee · 04/10/2018 11:23

Can I join? I've lost a stone in 2 weeks by doing Atkins phase 1. I am going to try and stay on Keto forever now because over the years I've realised that eating bread just makes me feel unwell actually. I've lost almost as much as I want to so can probably add berries in soon.

MissCarryingOn · 10/10/2018 12:34

Doing Keto now and trying to keep carbs below total 14g a day for a few weeks to lose weight for surgery. Find a lot of recipes are very American and heavy on pre-packages goods. Any decent UK recipes I can find somewhere?

UAEMum · 11/10/2018 17:52

Can i join please? A chance encounter with a keto mad woman at the hairdressers this morning has inspired me. Will start Sunday.

Electrascoffee · 11/10/2018 20:37

I've lost a stone in 3.5 weeks !!

UAEMum · 12/10/2018 20:51

Electrascoffee and anyone else, please give me an idea of what you eat. Are onions ok? And would the tom kerridge cookbook be a good guide for ideas?

Electrascoffee · 12/10/2018 23:21

Onions are fine - have you looked at the induction list

MissCarryingOn · 13/10/2018 14:38

I use Carb Manager app - the basic is free and it helps to understand your macros.

As a guide for carbs if you aim for total carbs a day ie 20 gram of carbs. It's fiddly at first but with most healthy eating plans it's just learning something new. For me the hardest was eating full fat and not low fat ..... so much sugar in low fat stuff.

If you have Netflix watch the Magic Pill.

Hi, new here. Really interested in starting Keto. I have 2 stones to lose, would love to lose 2 and a half but let's start with 2! I've recently had a baby (5 months ago, not BF anymore) and have eaten loads to make up for the lack of sleep and needing instant energy. But I refuse to buy anymore bigger clothes. I miss my pre-preg/pre-marriage weight!
How does it all work? I'm slightly scared of eating full fat and butter though! TIA

Electrascoffee · 22/10/2018 05:14

Duck - the most important thing to remember is that eating fat doesn't make you fat. What happens is that by reducing your net carbs to 20g a day and eating high fat you teach your body to burn fat for energy instead of carbs. The result of this is that your body then starts to burn the fat on your body when you're in ketosis.

So during induction you need to be adding butter to everything. For most people this does really work and the good thing is that you won't feel hungry. I've lost over a stone in a month...

Electrascoffee · 22/10/2018 05:17

However, you must drink at least 2 litres of water a day for it to work which is quite easy to do really. You will notice your waist shrinking and everything feeling smaller around your tummy.

duckii · 22/10/2018 08:46

@Electrascoffee really? That's amazing results!
Thanks for the help. Can I ask what you eat daily for your 3 meals?

RockyisMYRhino · 31/10/2018 15:19

I'm back on the keto train again after a weeks holiday where I just ate what I wanted. Unfortunately that led to me putting on a few pounds 😞
Hoping to lost a stone by Christmas (although I may have a day off for my birthday at the end of the month), but we do have a few nights/meals out to get through before then! Fingers crossed I can stick to it at least 80% of the time and add in some more exercise to negate as much bad stuff as possible

mrbob · 04/01/2019 07:35

I am attempting vegan keto which is proving interesting... I am hoping I am doing it right! I think I need to have less nuts- I am bored of almonds already after 4 days!

I have realised there is a lot more than I thought to eat though (and that protein shakes are not so bad when you add some coconut yogurt or peanut butter to them!)

I am also noticing a distinct lack of hunger already which is nice. My only down side is that running is REALLY hard work. I hope that changes once I adapt a bit

Sazb1986 · 05/01/2019 06:17

I've been doing keto for over 6 months now. Amd lost over 3 stone with it... Hit a landslide with Christmas, so if you still need a keto buddy. I'm game...

todayiwin · 05/01/2019 06:53

I'm in! Only lifestyle that works for me. Bread, rice, pasta & potatoes just make me feel like rubbish!

QQ - when reading food packaging. What should I be taking into consideration the carbohydrate content or total sugars? I've attached a label of Sainsbury's and never sure which one I should be guided by. Thank you

saffkey1 · 05/01/2019 15:33

Im on keto too!hi!

LaLaLanded · 06/01/2019 09:37

@todayiwin you want to look at the carbohydrate content.

I don’t know what that label is for btw, but I wouldn’t eat it based on the macros: 6.1g of carbs for 160kcal is seriously going to eat into your carb quota for the day.

I’ve been Keto for over two years and my best advice is to arm yourself with knowledge. Research, research, research: know what carbs are and what you can/cannot have so it becomes entirely clear - and then live by those rules. Also watch out for ‘carb creep’ and try not to spend all your time finding ‘cheats’: the great thing about Keto it that once you know the rules and follow them, it works brilliantly.

Someone mentioned the Diet Doctor website. It’s a great resource for Keto and low carb generally. Link here: www.dietdoctor.com

todayiwin · 06/01/2019 09:48

Thank you so much @LaLaLanded

todayiwin · 06/01/2019 09:48

@LaLaLanded it's Sainsbury hummus!

mooncuplanding · 06/01/2019 10:01

I’m still keto and don’t think I’ll ever change now! The more research you do on it the more it makes sense....keep your insulin under control and you won’t get fat!

I have maintained a lean 8.5 stones (5ft6) for 6 months. My weight barely budges at all - 1lb either way, and I just feel healthy

There are some great podcasts out there for more info:
The Sam Harris podcast with Gary Taubes called ‘What should we eat’ is great for starters, but then Keto for Women is good to understand the specific hormonal effect of insulin on female bodies, anything with Jason Fung, the human performance outliers podcast and 2 Keto Dudes is fantastic

I despair of WW and SW approaches and the constant calorie counting drives me insane and I feel so sorry for people struggling to lose weight by these methods - they are set up to fail yet blame themselves for it

LaLaLanded · 06/01/2019 10:54

@mooncuplanding congratulations! It’s a revelation isn’t it.

@todayiwin you’re welcome! Ah yes hummus - to be eaten with extreme caution. I don’t touch the stuff, it’s on my list of potential carb creep foods, sadly.

Sazb1986 · 06/01/2019 20:45

I've been doing keto for about 6 months, I've lost 3 stone so far. Didn't do it over Christmas and gained 10lbs but started again and lost 7lbs in 3 days. I've still got about 5 stone left to lose
