I know midweek and a weird date to start but kids to back to school today (back to some semblance of routine and no more cupcakes for lunch)
Plus 7 is my lucky number Grin
Unfortunately also unlucky in that I have 7 stones to lose. Bang on 7 to the pound.
Dammit.
Let's go!!!

Definitely looks better to me OP. I think the potato, banana and hummus were the only things which which I would totally avoid on a LCHF diet. I try to go easy on things like peanuts, peppers and carrots too but I wouldn't avoid them completely myself and as you are veggie you probably have fewer options so maybe don't want to be too restrictive about veg. I don't know about the LM sausages, but you could just check the pack and see how many carbs there are. I think you want to aim for 20-50 grams of carbs per day.

Have you had time to look at the link I posted? I think the Atkins site is quite useful.

MermaidTears · 08/09/2016 16:56

Yes! It's good to read it is totally doable for vegetarians to do Atkins or Atkins style.
Before now I had never contemplated it because i imagine it was all meat and eggs!

Onwards and upwards for us all.

I totally get the whole veggie thing, I'm impressed that you can do this diet! I was veggie for ages and ages and even now I shy away from meat, does not really appeal...bring on the tofu!

Luckybe40 · 08/09/2016 18:03

So, I'm weighing in here, 5'5 and 13.7 stoneBlush

boldlygoingsomewhere · 08/09/2016 18:21

Well done on making a start, OP. If you need some support, there will be another low carb bootcamp starting in Oct. I joined in the last one as a first timer and found the support really helpful. There were always great suggestions for how to tweak things and I'm sure you'll get help with the veggie aspect.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 08/09/2016 19:30

I merrily trotted to the shops earlier, selected lots of low carb, delicious treats and put them in my basket only to realise at the till that I didn't have my card with me! I remember now that my toddler was playing with it yesterday. I should have stopped her of course. Anyway, I couldn't pay for my groceries. Ugh, so embarrassing and inconvenient. Will now be dining on cheese for tea and possibly a bulletproof coffee, though will have to make it with olive oil instead of coconut Hmm. That's going to be rank isn't it? Sigh.

No idea where the card is now either.

I'm 5'8"ish and I don't know exactly how much I weigh, because my ancient bathroom scales are a bit dodgy, but it's somewhere between 12 and 12 and a half stone. I like being about 10 to 10 and a half stone.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 08/09/2016 19:45

Update on bulletproof coffee; actually it's quite nice.

Luckybe40 · 08/09/2016 20:51

stevieyoure shop experience sounds like something that would happen to meGrin I'm hungry but have NO idea what to eat!

ISeeNoReasonForBandage · 08/09/2016 20:56

Am I correct in thinking that BIWI is the low carb guru on Mumsnet? Also there is a whole spreadsheet of meals/food somewhere on here?

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 09/09/2016 07:34

Yes, I think BIWI is the low carb guru on here! She runs the boot camps and is very knowledgeable.

Lucky, glad it's not just me! Hope you found something nice to eat. I'm dying for a baked Camembert with celery sticks this morning and bread, but I won't. Need to go shopping (again). DH found my debit card hooray!

Bulletproof coffee for me again this morning and / or some cheesy scrambled egg, then off to shops. Will add lunch and dinner after.

MermaidTears · 09/09/2016 09:40

Day 3 for me.
Apparently one of the worst days!
I may have a wedding to slim for now...
So extra incentive for me.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 09/09/2016 17:16

How was day three mermaid? Exciting that you have a wedding to slim for! It's great having an event to focus on. I have a holiday next year with friends which is my big incentive. Don't want to be this chubby by then if I can help it!

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 09/09/2016 17:21

Also my meals today have been a bit weird tbh, but here goes:

Breakfast: cheesy scrambled eggs and a tea with FF milk

Lunch: homemade mushrooms stroganoff with rocket and then a large bowl of raspberries with cream (a few too many carb grams in the bowl I had really, but they were delicious and local so bought I'd have a treat. Think there were about 12 grams of net carbs or 24 grams total).

Random snack as I was ravenous: tuna mayo and two dairy lea triangles

Dinner: a really delicious looking burger stack thing (burger with halloumi, avocado and a little tomato all stacked up) and rocket.

MermaidTears · 09/09/2016 18:35

Stevie your food today sounds lovely. I might make that with veggie burger!

Day 3 going well but cravings are hardcore today. Damn.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 09/09/2016 18:56

Well done for riding out the cravings mermaid! Can't wait for my burger though DH doesn't seem keen. He must be mad Wink!

NewNameNows · 09/09/2016 21:58

Can I join. I eat low carbish(Paleo) but no dairy. Need to lose another stone so going at it a bit harder from today.
Breakfast bacon and eggs with tomato (eggs fried in coconut oil)
Dinner. chicken cooked in white wine and mushrooms, kale, carrots and mashed swede
half apple with cashew butter

lots of water and tea with coconut milk
one coffee

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 10/09/2016 13:44

Hi all!

I love the sound of paleo newname but don't know how I'd do without dairy! Your meals sound lovely though.

Well, today is day three and has been pretty good so far. I don't feel all that wonderful, but I think that's par for the course really. Trying to remember it does pass eventually and I'll feel so much better when it does. Seeing it as a step towards completely breaking my sugar habit. Weirdly, I'm not craving much, but also don't have much appetite.

Breakfast was a BPC made with coconut oil instead of the olive oil I had to use last time, plus butter, coffee and a little ground ginger

Lunch was the burger stack with salad which I didn't have last night. DH twisted my arm into tandoori chicken as he didn't fancy the burgers. It was v nice actually.

Dinner will probably be yet another big salad with prawns and halloumi

Also will be drinking plenty of water. I do feel v thirsty.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend Smile!

Luckybe40 · 10/09/2016 14:51

Hi everyone, day 3 for me too, feeling okay, been working loads , funnily enough my work consists of baking loads and loads of delicious cookies, cakes, pies...it's tough when you get hungry and there is nothing else to eat! I've resisted but I'm just grazing on cheese, a bit of fruit. I don't have too much time to cook loads of healthy meals, I don't really know what to eat that is quick and easy...had a burger without the bun, just the burger part, don't really like meat so didn't enjoy or finish it. But I'll persevere because as mermaid said, I can quit now and just wake up in a week feeling shit.

Ilisten2thesoundofdrums · 10/09/2016 17:02

Oddly enough I decided to start a low carb diets on Wednesday too.
It's going OK so far but I'm feeling very tired today. I don't know if it's the remains of jet lag or the low carb kicking in or both.
I have inflamed archi lies tendons at the moment which means I can't really exercise so that was making the weigh even worse.
I didn't get on the scales before I started so I'm just going to have to go by how my clothes fit to know if it's working for me.
I must drink more water!

Ilisten2thesoundofdrums · 10/09/2016 17:09

I'm trying to work out what to cook for dinner. I have chicken thighs in the fridge.
Whatever I make has to be OK for the rest of the family though I'm OK if I need to cook something like potatoes or rice for them.
I am restricted though as DS is allergic to eggs Nuts sesame fish so mustn't used any ingredients containing these nor must it be too spicy as he can't tolerate it as the tingly tongue thing is like an allergic reaction so freaks him out. Any ideas?

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 10/09/2016 20:27

Sorry listen, I'm probably a bit late to make suggestions but I love chicken thighs roasted with salt, pepper, garlic and rosemary. You could do baked potatoes for the rest of your family and just green veg / salad for you?

I had a bit of an odd dinner of prawns fried in coconut oil, steamed broccoli and some mozzarella. DH had pizza and offered me a piece and I honestly wasn't tempted Halo. Pizza isn't exactly my favourite food anyway though... but still, I'm calling it a win!

Luckybe40 · 10/09/2016 22:27

Hope we all made it through day 3, going to weigh myself tomorrow and see if the scales have moved. I feel less bloated but got a bit of the rage today, tripping over bloody toys for the millionth time feel a bit all over the place, wonder if it's sugar withdrawal, used to eat a lot of it in one form or another!

Luckybe40 · 10/09/2016 22:29

Had an amazing Thai red curry with loads of coconut milk and creamed coconut, with prawns and stir fried veg...surely that can't be too good for you but it was low carbConfused

NewNameNows · 10/09/2016 23:27

I love it Stevie and its a way of eating I have sustained for over a year now. When I gave up dairy I lost weight and thought I would find it hard as I have always loved cheese but I didnt. One of the reasons I gave up dairy was because of the high level of hormones in cows milk which I believe to be bad for me. I dont want extra estrogen in my diet. I drink coconut milk and have coconut cream if I have a pudding. My puddings are paleo low carb though.
Today
homemade granola with coconut milk ( nuts, seeds and coconut flour)

bacon and avocado salad with walnut oil and lemon dressing with walnuts

Tikka chicken with fried onions, big salad, broccoli and coconut yoghurt dressing with coriander and cucumber.

couple of squares of dark chocolate melted onto strawberries

Ilisten2thesoundofdrums · 11/09/2016 15:10

I cooked cauliflower cheese with onion and bacon and roasted the chicken in the end and added other veggies to go with it. I cooked Janet potatoes for the rest of the family.

Lunch today was prawn mayonnaise and salad. Yum.

Am determined to stick to this. I am so fed up of how many of my clothes I can no longer fits into.
