Does anyone want to be my low carb buddy?

I'm a complete sugar addict. I would easily eat a multi pack of full size chocolate bars in one go. I just have no self control.

Anyway, I started last week by cutting out refined sugar and this week I'm majorly cutting back on everything else.

I've been suffering from carb flu every morning. I literally can't stop shaking for hours. Confused It seems to go about lunch time though.

I'll be your buddy! I started 3 days ago. Going well but I also feel like crap. Arms feel like dead weights and I am so tired. I'm hoping it is carb flu and not something else more worrying!

WhatismyLife · 28/02/2015 08:42

hi Nikki Smile

I woke up not shaking for the first time this morning! Hopefully you get over your carb flu soon too. The achy feeling is horrible isn't it?

Are you getting any cravings? I'm mainly getting sugar cravings after meals, as that's when I'd normally crack open the chocolate. Grin

I feel a bit better today. Glad you do too :) I am quite lucky that I don't have a sweet tooth so I only miss bread, potatoes and pasta. I'm sure there are low carb chocolate things with cocoa powder that you can make. I bought a fab book called the low carb gourmet that has some nice recipes. I think you need to get creative with this diet or you get bored fast!

I had scrambled eggs with cheese for breakfast as I was in a rush. Lunch was difficult as we were at a museum so all I ate was a sausage! Dinner with be courgette spaghetti with pesto, mushrooms, asparagus and a couple of chicken thighs. Big meal to make up for barely eating all day!

WhatismyLife · 02/03/2015 07:53

Glad you're starting to feel better now. Smile

sorry, but I did laugh when you said you just had a sausage for lunch. Grin Eating out is difficult isn't it? I had a very rare evening out on Saturday with a friend. She'd only gone and booked a table at an Italian restaurant, so plenty of pasta and pizza to choose from and not much else. If we're near an m&s, I always try and get something there.

What sort of things are you having for snacks? i m trying not to snack at all. I find, if I start, I can't stop. Confused especially when it comes to nuts and Marmite cheese. Blush

I've just started too! Hello.

In my local M&S they do these little 30g pick and mix portions of cheese (brie, cheddar with chive and onion, mature cheddar, mild cheddar) which I find good for snacks 'cause they stop you from going on a total cheese binge. Or baked aubergine chips can be quite nice.

00100001 · 05/03/2015 11:20

I started two weeks ago - does that count?

WhatismyLife · 05/03/2015 11:30

Hi play and 001, how are you both getting on?

I had a bit of a bad day yesterday and had a crumpet and a bit of brownie. Blush But today's a new day so I'm trying not to feel too bad about it.

What's everyone having for dinner tonight? I really don't know what to have.

Play, thanks for recommending the m&s cheese, I really do need to limit myself!

You know what, I'm going to give this a go, if you'll have me? Been trying to 5:2 but my tummy is just too rumbly, it's mortifying!
I'll be honest, I won't manage a really strict version of this. But I think cutting down on canvas is a good think (and I love protein Wink)

I'm hungover today so may begin with sausage and eggs! Does anyone have any top tips?

WellHurrahAndHuzzah · 08/03/2015 12:48

*carbs, not canvas!

McMW · 08/03/2015 12:56

I started two weeks ago, 4lbs off, but noticably slimmer if that makes sense. Really trying to stick to it. Did 5k today, now I have more energy I will exercise more too. Hoping another 1lb falls off when I get on the scales tomorrow. I have about 10lbs more to lose.

WellHurrahAndHuzzah · 08/03/2015 13:32

Wow, well done McMW! You're now my inspiration Grin

WhatismyLife · 08/03/2015 22:43

Hi well and mcmw. Smile

Mcmw, how have you got so much energy?! Although I've stopped feeling tired in the afternoon, I literally don't have any energy. I'm struggling to walk my daughter to nursery every day since I've started.

Well, my best tip would be to have plenty of LC snacks in the fridge. I find I get tempted to cheat when I'm feeling lazy, so if I've got something easy at hand, I'm less likely to cheat.

Hi, yes I am starting today, have tried this before in October and decided to give it another go, but need to do a practical version of it. This morning have had a 2 egg omlette with a couple of mushrooms and a small amount of cheddar. I am out and about during the day a lot, v busy lifestyle (as I am sure is the case for loads of people), so am thinking roughly along these lines:

Omlette for breakfast
Nuts (will try and get almonds if I can, but may need to be salted peanuts) for lunch and maybe an Atkins bar
Soup (lowish carb) or some form of meat with veg or salad for tea

Did the flaxseed muffins a lot last time but they gave me the runs. Going to take it day by day and see how I get on, so I don't feel too daunted. Need to lose the best part of a stone but will weigh in today to make sure.

BIWI · 09/03/2015 08:54

At the beginning of low carbing, especially if you're really low carb, you can find that you don't have much energy. You're in the process of switching your body from burning carbs to burning fat. Once you've successfully 'transitioned' you should find that you have lots of energy, and your performance may even improve. You certainly won't need to do any carb-loading any more!

queenbrunhilda · 09/03/2015 12:39

Octopus - good luck! Do you by chance have a link to your flaxseed muffin recipe?

WrachBach · 09/03/2015 18:31

I am low carbing/paleo. Have been doing it for a week. Have lost about 4lb. I am eating some carbs and not going very low as for me that would bring about overeating and binging.

breakfast for me might be
just a cup of tea and a handful of almonds

boiled eggs and half a piece of buttered toast

cherry, blueberry and half banana smoothie with greek yoghurt and milk

two oatcakes with peanut butter

one homemade almond butter cookie

lunch (if I am hungry )
a large leaf salad with olives, sundried toms, mozerella, chicken or tuna, coriander and mint leaves and a dressing of olive oil with a little maple and lemon.
or
scrambled eggs and sausages with toms and mushrooms
or
omelette with ham, onions, peppers, broccoli, cheese etc.
or
leftovers

dinner.

salmon fillets with veg and white wine, coriander cream sauce
or
steak and salad with sweet potatoe wedges
or
slow cooked gammon with salad or veg and parsley cream sauce
or
chicken and coconut curry with poppadam and yoghurt, onion, mint side.
or
roast chicken with veg with sweet roast potatoes and gravy (juices)
or
chilli chicken stir fried with loads of veg and bean sprouts and grated parmesan cheese on top

snacks are nuts, small piece of dark salty chocolate, occasional medjool date, grapes, banana with peanut butter on, almond butter homemade cookies (only one)

Hope you didn't mind me putting my food menus down. Just thought maybe it would help give people ideas and would really love to see others menus for ideas too. Smile

Octopus37 · 09/03/2015 19:16

Hi, think I got the Flaxseed muffin recipe just by googling it. Today have eaten:

2 egg omlette with a small amount of cheese and mushrooms
100g bag of salted peanuts
An Atkins Chocolate Orange bar
a few bits of cheese
Another omlette with cheese and prawns

TBH could really eat more, about to have a have a hot sugar free squash as last time found this helped.

Also weighed myself, 8st11. Would ideally like to get down to 8st but would be delighted with 8st4. Also know that I am going to have lapses as I lvoed food and also enjoy a drink

BIWI · 09/03/2015 20:02

Wrachback - I hear what you say about wanting to avoid dysfunctional eating, but I would also say that your diet isn't especially low carb. You would be better snacking on veg rather than fruit - celery and cucumber with sour cream dip, for example.

WrachBach · 09/03/2015 20:10

I didn't say I was doing low carb though.
