The High Fat Diet: How to Lose 10lb in 14 Days, article in the Times on Saturday

Has anyone seen this? It looks interesting and from a new book released in a couple of weeks. DH and I need to do something to lose a few pounds and it particularly appeals to me as it is supposed to be good for losing belly fat.

I don't know how different it is to other LCHF plans though.

I also need to think through what DD, who is 7, could eat. Breakfast she could have her usual and lunches mostly at school so eating with us in the evening should be OK.

Looked pretty much like Biwi's bootcamp to me - I didn't read it in detail though.

LexLoofah · 07/01/2015 17:18

I saw this, very interested and tempted but .... but am going to do BIWIs bootcamp and then I am not alone, plus looks slightly more do-able even if it is over a longer period

I'm on 3rd day. I think the not feeling hungry kicks in after 4 day detox during the 10 day blitz. Love all the veg and fish, not so much the meat so have been substituting in the set menu and tried quinoa tonight as it's no carb (I hope). Major change to my habits not having snacks and booze though! Probably just cutting them out would do the trick but I think the idea is to stop those cravings.
I have to keep rereading the article to remind myself why I'm doing it however - she said her friends said she looked great after - mainly belly fat loss and mystified as to why I didn't lose more weight when I went vegan for Lent.

GrandTheftQuarto · 07/01/2015 19:03

Since when is quinoa no carb?

miffy49 · 07/01/2015 19:32

Hardly at 40gr+ for 1 cup of cooked!

GrandTheftQuarto · 07/01/2015 20:43

It's no good for super-low-carb diets but I try to eat high-fat, moderate-carb, and low-GI, and really enjoy chips made from Chinese yam (also known as French yam) as a treat. Much, much chippier than celeriac "chips" and still lowish on the carbs (but no good for people trying to stay in ketosis, obviously). You can get a decentish portion for 20g of carbs.

GrandTheftQuarto · 07/01/2015 21:21

12g carbs per 100g compared to 17ish for potato.

Not a mahoosive saving, but, like I said, a treat.

suiz · 07/01/2015 21:45

Ugh, I thought as it's a seed and high protein... Thanks I won't have it for lunch too

GrandTheftQuarto · 07/01/2015 22:02

Sorry, went off on my own little tangent there without making it obvious.

sergeantmajor · 08/01/2015 11:14

I am trying this. It is actually my first ever diet and I am on day 3. I don't have much weight to lose, just some Christmas inches, but hard to do when I'm already a mostly healthy eater.

The reason why I was motivated to try it was because the stuff about carbs giving you quick peaks then crashing down really hit home for me. I think it is why I am constantly looking for my next snack.

I feel really blaaaah at it on the moment, dying for some zingy fruit just to break up the fatty mouthfeel, but truth to tell, I don't feel hungry and it is 11 am! By now I would have already had a substantial mid morning snack on top of breakfast, so maybe there is something in it.

And if it doesn't work, at least I am enjoying eating all the cheese!

suiz · 09/01/2015 01:27

I find drinking loads helps the queasiness, I'm on 3rd day too. Not sure if it's allowed but a wee squeeze of lemon juice in water is good. And when I'm hungry red bush tea feels really nourishing, might help with the fruit urges? According to the Times the 4th day you feel really energised, hope so. I've also cottoned on that the blitz gets even richer and the yoghrt and peas must have been to ease you in gradually.

Palooza · 09/01/2015 01:41

This was popular a few years back (well more like ten Blush ) as the 'fat flush' iirc.

balancingfigure · 09/01/2015 20:34

Ohh glad people are trying it. Please keep updating! DH and I are doing from next Saturday as there are various odd things that make it tricky before. I've preordered the book from Amazon for extra info.

I think it will be hard although I do like all the food on the plan (I'm not particularly fussy but diets often seem to have things I would't like!)

I'm starting this next week. On shakes ATM and that will be the next thing I do. Good to hear how others are doing. But in the meantime what is the low carb bootcamp? I can see a post but it's just names.

craftykits · 12/01/2015 20:30

I started the Sunday Times Zana Morris one last week. I should be on the first day of the 10 day blitz.....I've done the four days (first four I felt pretty light headed and had a horrible headache) and feel a bit better today - but I'm not sure I can do another 10. There's a LOT of cream cheese/boursin mixed in with what would otherwise be quite nice tasting greens. I can't see any other way round it but I made my way through a pile of spinach with cream cheese with a steak on Saturday night and really felt very queasy afterwards......not sure of a way round it. Lunches are fine - finding the breakfasts a bit much. I love breakfast but not this way.....I'm not fussed about losing loads of weight quickly but I'm really not sure how long I can sustain this one !

Kinraddie · 15/01/2015 09:20

I've done the 4 day pretox (fairly easy) and this is day 2 of the 10 day blitz. I have lost 6 pounds so far, started at 10st 7. Would like to get to 9st 7, so all my clothes fit again! Breakfasts and lunches are fine, quite enjoy avocado or smoked salmon. But would agree, by evening I'm struggling to get through the dinners. Think ill switch to more fish rather than lamb and steak. Can't say I feel more energised, but I do feel so motivated by the weight loss so will keep going. A cup of peppermint tea at night is what I look forward to! And on the plus side, I'm definitely not hungry - it's just a low level craving for something sweet or crispy.

pootlebug · 15/01/2015 13:16

Quangle - details on the low carb bootcamp here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/low_carb_bootcamp/2280764-Ive-just-signed-up-for-the-Bootcamp-but-can-someone-give-me-a-rough-idea-of-how-it-works and further info on the spreadsheet BIWI linked in that thread.

balancingfigure · 16/01/2015 09:48

Wow Kinraddie that's great! The book came yesterday and my grocery shop is coming this afternoon so all set to start tomorrow.

Apparently it's fine to cut portion size as long as you keep the ratios of fat and protein the same. Also ok to skip a meal if you're not hungry. Might be worth a try Crafty?

Belindabelle · 18/01/2015 19:31

I started this yesterday. I have done low carb before but not with such a high fat:protien ratio. Lots of butter and coconut oil for me as I am trying to reduce dairy.

balancingfigure · 20/01/2015 11:29

Day 4 of the pretox today and it's a bit of a struggle! The food is nice and I'm not hungry but lots of headaches and felt very sick today. Is this sugar withdrawal? DH seems to be coping really and I'm determined to stick with it but we shall see!

OP posts:
sergeantmajor · 20/01/2015 14:19

I finished the 10th day of the blitz (14th day overall) yesterday. I can't tell you exactly how much I've lost cos I didn't weigh and measure beforehand, but I've lost the Xmas bulge, my jeans are loose and I look visibly shrunken!

For the first week of the diet I felt like I was walking through treacle. I didn't feel hungry (unbelievable for me!) but I really missed the joy of snacking.

So here I am ready to eat what I want again and I find that this way of eating has kinda got under my skin! I don't really want to go back to the carbs much, especially not to all those ups and downs on the sugar rollercoaster. The only thing is that all that protein is more expensive than a good ole jacket potato.

I will try not to undo my good work, but I can see me combining the cream and fat from this diet with the sugar and carbs of my old lifestyle to deadly effect!

Belindabelle · 21/01/2015 09:39

Well done serge.

Did you do the exercises?

I am struggling a bit as I am trying to eliminate dairy and go easy on the nuts as these usually cause me to stall. Eating 70g of fat is challenging. Thankfully I do love avocado.

digitalcaroline · 21/01/2015 12:59

There seems to be a video for the HIT workout that goes with it (The High Fat Diet) on youtube has anyone tried it? It looks like a home workout.

Quitelikely · 21/01/2015 13:11

Can anyone provide a link to this diet plan? I have tried googling without success!

Thank you

digitalcaroline · 21/01/2015 13:39
