Slimming World to Harcombe?

FourArms · 02/12/2013 11:30

I've been doing SW since 29/8. Initially on EE and now mainly on red days.

However although I've lost 1lb short of 2
stone I haven't lost any weight this week and I've stuck to the plan with the exception of maybe not enough syns / HEB.

Have seen the Harcombe diet and this seems to be more like what I'm doing at the moment although I'll have to swap coffee and skimmed milk for herbal tea and stop my 10 a day satsuma habit ;)

Just wondered what people's losses had been in phase 1 switching from SW? My BMI is still in the low 30s so I've got plenty to lose!

Notsurehowthathappened - I've noticed a lot more definition to my waist as well. I've definitely lost weight in all the places I'd like it to be going from! My cellulite is also looking much better.

perrinelli - I don't think 300g is that excessive (I've eaten 1kg some days Shock) But do try the Total yoghurt which is really low (but expensive), or other LC yoghurts. The massive tubs can be cheaper and lower carb.

WRT eating out, I'd just do your best. You could say you're avoiding wheat or carbs, whatever you're most comfortable with. However, when I've gone off plan, although I've gained due to uncontrollable meals, it has disappeared again very quickly.

kazzawazzawoo - Hope your meatloaf turned out well? I was going to buy some pork mince to make scotch eggs yesterday, but I have soooooo much food in my freezer that I need to use up that I decided not to. I've probably got some pork mince in there somewhere!! (I've got two freezers - a fridge freezer style one and a chest freezer in the garage)

Meals today:

B - fried egg, bacon & mushrooms

L - belly pork, cabbage, leek and spring greens and mushrooms fried in butter and a slosh of cream and a tea spoon of mustard. Lovely! :) Followed by lots of crackling. Very naughty and I didn't even feel remotely hungry until long after normal dinner time.

D - gammon, cauliflower and cabbage, leek and spring greens fried in butter with a slosh of cream

The cream is a bit of the bootcamp that I'm embracing. I'll give it a week and if significant harm is done I'll go back to normal!

I've also drunk a significant amount of water today... will measure my jug shortly to find out how much! A sliced lemon in the water makes a lot of difference.

Gain today! Cream? TOTM? Gammon & bacon yesterday?

Will be eating gammon for 3 meals today, but the cream will go!

FA i would be more suspicious of the Gammon.

I have lost another 0.4lb today so it appears that Monday was the blip.

I cooked a Gammon on Friday and ate it Friday, Saturday, Sunday. I now reckon that the fact I had gainned last week (but then lost 2lb Tuseday) was because I had retained fluid due to the saltiness of the Gammon.

It shouldn't do lasting damage but might create confusion on the scales !!

FourArms · 15/01/2014 09:42

Could be - and in combination with the bacon too which I've seen have an impact on the scales before. I am thirsty today. But my trousers are looser (used to get period bloating around my tummy but no evidence of that today).

Oh well, it's got to be eaten! Maybe I'll skip it for lunch and share it with the DSs for dinner.

Great news on the continued loss :)

OP posts:
Notsurehowthathappened · 15/01/2014 10:02

I would just eat it FA

If it is just leading to fluid retention that will come off the day after you stop.

kazzawazzawoo · 15/01/2014 14:28

Having a good day so far.

B: bacon and eggs
L: chicken and veg HM soup and cold meatloaf
S: salami and cheese
D: gammon and veg and fried egg

FourArms · 15/01/2014 18:12

The gammon is gone! I had a tuna mayo salad for lunch instead and then gammon salad with buttered cauli for dinner. I'll see what the scales say tomorrow. Feel very sore round the middle today, but my trousers aren't tight so I don't think I'm bloated.

Kazza - how was the meatloaf?

OP posts:
kazzawazzawoo · 15/01/2014 18:26

The meatloaf was lovely, although maybe a bit dry. I used pork mince and lined the loaf tin with prosciutto, mixed in some anchovies, tomato purée and mustard. I had chicken soup as well and some salami and cheese rolls, but was still starving this afternoon. Maybe I need to eat more egg for breakfast.

Notsurehowthathappened · 15/01/2014 19:28

Did you add fried shallots Kazz and bind the loaf with Egg ?

If dry it is because there isn't enough fat in the mixture. Pork mince is quite low in fat. You coud add lardons. Alternatively wrap in foil during the first part of the bake and then unwrap towards the end to brown.

I really fancy one now so will add Mince to the shop next week.

Are you sure you are hungry in the afternoon and not just bored and fantisising about food? I find the more bored I get at work the hungrier I get.

kazzawazzawoo · 15/01/2014 19:38

I did add shallots, but didn't fry them first. I added chopped up prosciutto, egg and chopped up anchovies too - and herbs. I'll try covering it in fool next time. It was very tasty though and handy to take to work.

I probably am bored, it was a quiet afternoon and I'd eaten everything by 1 pm. I had a cereal bar still in my drawer but didn't eat it, so feel quite virtuous.

perrinelli · 15/01/2014 20:44

Have you been able to find gammon without added sugar? When I looked the other day in tesco they all had sugar on the label.
I'm trying v hard not to weigh myself as I'm not sure I've lost much more than the initial 5/6lb but am feeling so much better and my tummy has gone down.
Massive craving for salt and vinegar crisps today, wonder if I'll ever be able to think if them without salivating!

kazzawazzawoo · 15/01/2014 20:48

Oh I didn't check Hmm Label gone now, so can't check.

FourArms · 16/01/2014 07:13

Kazza - I know if I get bored I think about food more. Usually try and have a coffee which sorts it out.

My gammon was a joint of meat type that they sell at Christmas (vastly reduced afterwards!) so didn't have sugar in.

I'm down 0.4lb from yesterday, but that's still 1.2lb higher than Tue :( Hoping for something dramatic to happen tomorrow or Sat if it is fluid retention. Will drink lots today :)

B - 2 buttery scrambled eggs

L - tuna mayo salad

D - chicken fajitas (baby gem lettuce wraps)

OP posts:
FourArms · 16/01/2014 07:24

Hmmm....tinned tuna (brine) can also cause fluid retention. I've eaten it almost daily for the last fortnight!

OP posts:
kazzawazzawoo · 16/01/2014 07:58

Fourarms, try getting tuna in oil - you need the fat anyway. I get the No need to drain tins, they're nice and not as messy.

Notsurehowthathappened · 16/01/2014 08:36

I have got to the stage where I need to weigh weekly FA. The roller coaster of weight up and down can be so demoralising.

If you now have to worry about foods that might cause slight fluid retention on top of all the other rules, this WOE will become a nightmare.

Neither Gammon or Tuna are naughties in Harcombe terms and given that both are lean Protien they should not lead to long term weight issues.

Just enjoy them !!

kazzawazzawoo · 16/01/2014 11:34

I measured myself for the first time this morning and I've lost an inch off my waist and boobs. SmileSmile

kazzawazzawoo · 16/01/2014 11:35

I stay away from weighing completely, because I can't deal with the fluctuations.

kazzawazzawoo · 16/01/2014 17:33

Today has been a bit rubbish, so comforted myself with two very small squares of dark chocolate. It could have been much worse, I just wanted something sweet! May have wine tonight though Sad

Brunch (my day off) omelette with red pepper, shallots, ham and a little grated cheese.

Snack: salami and cheese rolls

Dinner: cold ham, cauliflower and peppers and tomatoes fried in butter.

Notsurehowthathappened · 16/01/2014 17:47

Also had a rubbish day today.

Very headachy and for some reason desperate for Chocolate !! I am not sure why as I dont normally crave anything.

As I am not at home I can't solve it all with 'good 90% chocolate' so have had a handful of peanuts instead.

I know that isn't a perfect solution but have followed Zoe's advice that nuts are better than sweets.

Notsurehowthathappened · 16/01/2014 17:48

Congratulations on your inch loss Kazz !!!

kazzawazzawoo · 16/01/2014 17:55

Well done Notsure on withstanding temptation. I had no nuts here, but lots of cereal bars and biscuits. Feel quite pleased that I only had tiny amount of dark chocolate.

FourArms · 16/01/2014 18:49

Well done on restraint in the face of adversity ladies!! It's all about making the right choices :)

You're completely right re not stressing about fluctuations. I love tuna and don't want to stop eating it. I know I'm losing - the trousers that were tight pre-Xmas are too big now. Going to try on my starting trousers tonight to boost my confidence.

Good day here -

B - scrambled egg
L - salad, mayo & tub of Yeo Valley NLY
D - chicken fajitas (in lettuce) with sour cream but no cheese. Actually had chicken with tikka spices not fajita spices as they had sugar in.

Very full, but sore right through my back with TOTM. :( Going to have a nice cup of coffee later. :)

kazzawazzawoo · 16/01/2014 19:02

Well done re your trousers FourArms Smile

I made some HM mayo today, as I found my omelette a bit dry today. I can't eat it without a little grated cheese, in fact I struggle with Harcombe without cheese full stop. I'll just see how it affects me for a bit.

FourArms · 16/01/2014 20:33

I'm finding HM mayo much nicer with a teaspoon of whole grain mustard.

I'm having a lot of mayo lately. It tastes sooooo lovely.

Just bought some new trousers :) Size down. I haven't been a comfy 14 in trousers for about 6 years. I wouldn't say they're comfy yet, but I'll get there!

Try the cheese and see what happens, the bootcampers all seem to be eating it!
