Wow, we got to 1000 messages!

Welcome back from the previous thread and welcome to all new!

I have been Paleo since September last year, I started as an ex-vegetarian/vegan, I wanted to give up gluten and I had been doing 5:2/IF, which lead me to Paleo/primal. I am 40, I have 2 kids age 8 and 6. I have no major health issues, but I would like it to stay that way. I have bad skin, which has improved since starting Paleo and my dandruff has disappeared. I have gained some weight since starting Paleo, but I was not overweight before, although I would like to get back on my pre Paleo weight - I just love Paleo mayonnaise too much ;) I still practice IF and I lift weights 2-3 times per week. My family is also Paleo.

I have just come back from a camping weekend where I was not strict Paleo as I was camping with other families and I just didn't want to spend my entire weekend telling my kids "no, you cant have it". I do think that Paleo camping is entirely possible, think tinned fish, nuts, sausages, eggs etc.

My boobs never ever shrink. Weight comes off my stomach first Smile

RawCoconutMacaroon · 04/09/2013 17:37

Same here!

Snap. Boobage preserved. Grin.

FavadiCacao · 04/09/2013 19:26

ohdaddypig thank you. I'm most definitely a social cook; I think is the Italian in me.
Re the sugary cravings. I think it depends on the person. I never had a particularly sweet tooth, so I only had cravings for wheat but not sugar. Dh and ds still very much crave after years! and I suspect my niece will too! Wink She coped for 3 weeks before begging for cake! I had already provided the crackers and bread substitute but cake is apparently a different ball game Grin

Wow, good ! The first lot of pictures looked great and these look amazing. Grin

Are we sisters, Raw ? I'm proportionally the same as you. 10/12 on the bottom, 12/14 on top (8 on waist for A-line skirts). On 'conventional' diet the boobs were the first to go and tummy the last but on paleo boobs have stayed (from 40DD to 34G).

Fav Grin

goodasitgets · 04/09/2013 20:31

Not eaten much today
B - total yoghurt, strawberries, vanilla powder
L - post workout - protein, almond milk, greens powder and PB2 in a shake
Supplements (gag!) - feroglobin (liquid iron), Centrium multi vit, omega 3 oil
Juice - carrot, spinach, celery, ginger, lime

Not sure about tea yet. Have a huge batch of chilli cooking

giraffeseatpineapples · 04/09/2013 22:28

goodas forget lbs you have lost years in those photos! Grin
sooo Envy of all the boobage, my boobs evaporate on low carb. Think it must be hormones making them artficially bigger when I eat bread and stuff Confused

Glad you had a good hol snow

oohdaddypig whole 30 is where you keep it clean and don't eat paleo deserts, alcohol, dairy etc for 30 days, you are also supposed to avoid snacking. Quite a challenge and dep on weight and eating habits before starting it you are not guaranteed weight loss. It is described as a nutritional resest! whole9life.com/category/whole-30/

snowlie · 05/09/2013 09:32

goodas I can scarcely believe your weight - you carry it very well.
Thanks Giraffe - are you doing the whole30 now? I'm planning to do it in January.

Made a Thai yellow curry last night - quick, easy, full of veg and the dcs loved it. Definitely a family fav.

I'm going to make a real effort to eat more fish over winter, I guess I'm always slightly nervous about cooking with it.

And still haven't managed to eat much Offal, although in France we ate a mystery dish which turned out to be duck's stomach marinated in garlic, it was tender and tasty and even a hit with the kids. Am going to learn to make my own Pate as I find the shop bought stuff tastes far too processed.

goodasitgets · 05/09/2013 10:03

Thank you. I get a little infuriated at posts on here (not in this thread!) suggesting a certain weight is heavy and unfit etc.
Although I am a little sore from 3 spin classes in 3 days!!

goodasitgets · 05/09/2013 17:32

So far this week 3 spin classes done, 1 horse ridden and now I'm off to pole fitness Grin

giraffeseatpineapples · 06/09/2013 13:55

snow i still havent officially startes w30 - infact I am having chicken leftover risotto tonight. Going to focus on better sleep routines (not falling asleep on sofa reading a book / watching tv) taking my supplements and possibly reintroducing excersise for a week first.

Talking of weight I found robb wolf's book in oxfam for £2 (yay) and he himself and one of the other case studies gained weight on the scales doing paleo (but lost fat) so ignore the scales goodas you look fab Grin he says it is all about being strong and healthy.

Itstartshere · 07/09/2013 09:17

My boobs have shrunk since I started Paleo. So sad!

I've just had a bad month with food, mainly because I went on holiday and they served vegetarian food only so I ate more nuts and some bread to fill up. And I had friends to stay so we had a bit of chocolate cake. Ok a lot.

I've put on weight, I'm upset about it, BUT I've been dying to get back to this way of eating as I haven't been enjoying my food at all, have never been full and I hate the idea of putting on weight having done so well at losing it. So back to eating properly, and very relieved to be doing so. I'm just glad I didn't put on a catastrophic amount. But definitely want to nip this kind of thing in the bud, I don't want to swing between losing lots and essentially binging.

giraffeseatpineapples · 07/09/2013 13:40

itstartshere we sound similar - shrinking boobs on paleo and quick weight gain with bread. I think a lot of the gain after eating wheat is to do with water retention so I think its unavoidable to eat some without quickly gaining lbs, so not necc a sign of huge excess. Problem is though that added to that it is addictive too making it all a bit harder to have wheat occasionally Sad.

QueenofWhatever · 08/09/2013 09:50

I've been a long time lurker on both threads, and hoped you could help me with food allergy testing. I thought it was gluten I was reacting so strongly to, but I'm grain free but can tolerate small amounts here and there. However I went out for a curry last week (wheat free and eaten there many times before), and my digestion was just all over the place for the next 48 hours. The same thing has happened a few times before.

I've googled allergy testing, but keep coming up with a load of Daily Mail links or companies who just sound like chancers. Any advice?

I've been primal/paleo since the start of the year, and really rate it. I have some kind of sub-clinical autoimmune disorder and my symptoms have massively improved. I've also lost a lot of fat, and generally feel so much better. I'm a strong advocate of the whole primal lifestyle, rather than seeing it as a diet. Love these threads, and also like the Primal Britain Facebook page.

buildingmycorestrength · 08/09/2013 10:38

Hey Queen, just a thought....garlic? I know a couple of people with a garlic allergy and even small amounts gives them a bad tummy for a night or so afterwards. Obv lots of garlic in curry so 48 hee might be right. Took my friends ages to figure it out and it is quite an unfortunate allergy to have. Sad.

QueenofWhatever · 08/09/2013 16:30

Hmm, garlic? I hadn't thought about that building. I eat garlic several times a week though, and chilli. I eat a pretty varied diet, so I'm struggling to think what it might be.

giraffeseatpineapples · 08/09/2013 18:54

Could it have been msg?

BadSeedsAddict · 08/09/2013 19:24

Hi, can I join please? I have been trying to get into Paleo for ages but as I have ADD and bulimia/binge/disordered eating it's hard for me to get organised with it. I do find that my focus and concentration are far better when on it, that's probably obvious Smile marking my place so I can go through the thread properly later on!

QueenofWhatever · 08/09/2013 20:00

giraffes I'd be surprised if it's MSG, as it's a family-run Keralan restaurant (the food is amazing!), and they stress that everything is cooked to order in sunflower oil and low salt.

I've been racking my brains, but can't work out what it could potentially be. As I said, it's happened a couple of times, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason.

giraffeseatpineapples · 08/09/2013 20:09

could be a totally random spice you dont use at home - cumin? {Grasps at straw!}

welcome bad seed! Sorry its been difficult but even small changes prob help loads.

BadSeedsAddict · 08/09/2013 21:52

Thanks giraffeseatpineapples! How do you go straight to the last post on these threads by the way, driving me mad scrolling for ages on my iPhone! Just skimmed through what looks like tons of great info and links Grin need to go to bed though so when kids at school tomorrow - dd2 starting full days tomorrow erk - am going to make a point of figuring out how to get back into it. The hardest part seems to be the enormous range of tempting non-Paleo food that is available; that, and the assumption of family etc that it's a 'faddy' diet thing and that wheat etc is good for you. I'm going to be seeing someone about my eating problems so hopefully will be able to work around what I want to achieve with them.

giraffeseatpineapples · 08/09/2013 22:20

Go to flip this thread under the topic bar. Good luck for your dd tomorrow! Def difficult when people think wheat is healthy, I had a lecture from a friend the other day but I dropped the subject before it turned into a row!

giraffeseatpineapples · 08/09/2013 22:23

Oh actually I think its different on phones, you might need to look for some kind of page set up preferences button - I had mine set up to load that way, sorry my phone is broken so cant check how.

Wiifitmama · 08/09/2013 22:42

Hi all. I would like to join in please :)

I have been eating low carb in one way or another for the last 13 years on and off. But three years ago I finally committed properly and over the course of a year and a half I lost all my excess weight - 110 pounds. I have been maintaining ow for a year and a half. Well mostly. I a, bouncing a fair bit but never out of "normal" BMI range.

I eat mostly Paleo. Over a lifetime I have learned that it works best for me. I am not 100% Paleo as I have milk in coffee and I also have a spoonful of oat groat grains in my breakfast eggs. I have added these after a lot of experimentation as despite huge amount of veggies each day, constipation was a constant problem. This seems to sort that out. I also eat a square or dark chocolate each day.

Now I have to confess to having eaten off plan and very badly this last week. Resulting of course in digestive discomfort, bloating, no doubt weight gain, and I even get a bruising type pain all over my body when I eat badly (inflammation?). Anyway, back on track tomorrow ad looking forwa to feeling much better.

Looking forward to getting lots of inspiration here :)

BadSeedsAddict · 08/09/2013 22:43

Ah! Think I have it right now. Thank you :) Will get on properly tomorrow. Thanks about dd, she is excited!
