Right chaps, while BIWI is drinking prosecco in sunny Italy away being busy and important, I'm your supply teacher for the next couple of days. BIWI has given me temporary responsibility for the Big Stick, so no messing about at the back there!

Well done on getting to week five, it's not easy and despite the fab support on here you've done this yourself, so remember how far you've come.

Please record your weight on the spreadsheet and marvel at your progress!

Temptations will come along, especially over bank holidays and half term treats, but remember that you're doing this for yourself, so be kind to yourself by not giving in to the temptation from things that do you harm and risk derailing you, as every time you look after yourself in this way it get easier. If you have a wobble, post on here - we'll remind you of all the tasty things you can have instead and why.

Have a lovely week!

Evening all,

Reining in the inner gobbler is to this bootcamp what the sugary twats were to January's!

Not alone in my struggles I have felt really propped up by the thread this week. Tank you everyone for sharing.

Today has been delicious using up of leftovers before uber camp tomorrow

B Greek yog with a few blueberries, cinnamon and a slosh of cream
L salad, oily dressing, cold roast chicken thighs
D pork chop pan fried with butter with wilted greens and brocolli drenched in garlic butter
S 2 decaf cofee and cream, one fennel tea.

couch i don't think it will be carb flu on day 8 if you have stuck to the rules... For me that one slice of toast would have made me feel horrible sonit might be that or just that you are coming down with something. Are you eating enough fat? Drinking enough water? and sticking carefully to the rules? If you do you will generally feel fine and have lots of energy (except when unwell obvs!).

B - eggs, mushrooms and bacon fried in butter
L - salad (at London zoo, ignored all the warm carby food despite being wet and cold )
D - rib steak, green beans, cabbage/mushroom/bacon/cream and some fried onions

I have had the WTO balance of coffee and water so far though! It was VERY wet and cold this afternoon!

BIWI's twitching stick just managed to keep me in line. Feeling absolutely rubbish today though, and thoroughly fed up.

B - smoked salmon with loads of creme fraiche
L - baked camembert with celery
D - leftover guinea fowl with broccoli
S - greek yoghurt with double cream and vanilla

2 cups tea, loads of water

Thanks Midnight, have added my pound loss to the spreadsheet!

Yesterday:

B - Lidl yoghurt, 2 Lidl low-carb sausages with avacado and mayo

L- omelette with asparagus, mushroom and shallot and mayo

D - No-spag Bol with creme fraiche with pine nuts (I don't recommend putting artistic garnish of pine nuts on top - I lost them in the bolognese and thought I'd cracked a tooth on one)

S - portion of edam cheese, 2 squares dark chocolate.

Today:

B - Lidl yoghurt, an egg scrambled on avacado and cucumber with mayo

L - Starter sized chicken wings and celery with sour cream (out)

D - No-spag Bol - that's a great quick easy recipe in the low-carb recipe section. Had it with creme fraiche on top.

S - 2 squares of dark chocolate

Have been successfully reducing cheese but notice that creme fraiche appears to be taking its place! Dark choc not meant to be a habit, just the time of the month..

Although have just been reading about 99per cent dark chocolate Lindt on a low-carb site but I feel that's a step too far. It would cease to be chocolate to me and become something else entirely.

Tea was a very lazy very quick but totally yummy salmon steak x 2 with buttery courgette and mushrooms.

Thanks crabby. I think maybe its just been a crappy day and nothing else. I had my toast yesterday morning and have 100% stuck to the plan since, but for the first time since starting his WOE I didn't sleep well. I'm not going to let it get me down :)

Another question- how do I gratinee/dauphinoise a celeriac? I have a gain Cooke door tomorrow and would normally have potato dauphinoise. Do I need to par boil. Ashamed to say I've never eaten celeriac before.

Report
CiderwithBuda · 28/05/2013 21:32

Couch - I use a celeriac dauphinoise recipe from a BBC.co.UK. It's a Lesley waters recipe. Very easy.

I had a reasonable day today food wise but succumbed to wine again. It's so miserable I was very peed off so decided to have one. Had three.

Went to cinema today with DS and had.......... A cup of tea. Took a couple of Babybels in case I was hungry but didn't need them.

I feel I am a bit all over the place at the moment with processed meats, too much dairy, too many cups of tea and too many tomatoes. Thinking of ubercamping to get back to basics.

I need to drink more water! Some days I am fine but others I struggle.

couch you will love celeriac dauphnoise, it's delish. I made it for the 1st time a few weeks ago and I was very impressed - more restaurant-like food! You dont need to parboil, just slice very thinly and put in a pan with cream and seasoning. When it comes to the boil tip into a buttered baking dish and bake til golden and soft. It takes less time than spud. You can add all sorts of variations - garlic, herbs like thyme, crispy lardons, cheese etc

crabby sorry to hear you are feeling low, but mrsHP is right, stick with it and you will feel loads better

I was up at 4.30am with ds2 this morning, he thought it was time to get up. Work was fun.Hmm

B: 2 hb eggs with butter
L: 1.5 burgers with melted cheese, veg with butter
S: lots of cheddar (my go to snack of the moment)
D: mackerel fillet, poached egg, big salad with lots of oily dressing, lump of feta

I've been reading about a movie called "Fathead" - has anyone seen it? It's sort of a reply to Morgan Spurlock's "supersize me" as in, it's not the fat that makes people fat, it's the carbs. The film maker, Tom Naughton has a really excellent blog which I've been reading over the weekend.

Hi couch

No, you don't need to cook it, slice as thin as you can, I usually cut it in half first, layer it in a dish and cover with cream and maybe a splash of home made stock. Cooks in 35-40 mins or so, on gas 4.

Utterly. Delicious!

My mum had kittens today at the news that I'm not eating fruit ("but its GOOD for you...!") and no amount of "it all makes sense let me explain" or even "look its working" got through. I had to just call a halt to the urge to convert her to this WOE.

Courage to all of you and those getting back on wagons! Its week 5 of 10, you are half-way through. (I started 1 week late). Think of the positives, we'll all have to buy new clothes soon eh?!

iheartshoes good luck. Maybe you could think of making a salad or making a sandwich being about the same time? I made packed lunches for 6 today (5 lots of sandwiches and 1 box of mayo-rich salad for me) I swear my bit didn't take any more time than a sandwich. Or can you freeze stews/soups etc so you don't have to start from scratch each day?

I got a new bike at the weekend, and have been out for the last 2 days, 11 miles each time. I am hoping that some exercise will help my metabolism.

I feel great, loads of energy, although I haven't lost much weight in the last couple of weeks.

I wish I wasn't quite as pudgy though.

Couch I think you gave me a thank you meant for MrsHP... Wink

Thanks Mary. I'm pleased I made it through the day without giving in to the cravings. Tomorrow will be better, hopefully. Bloody weather doesn't help, does it, although the bank holiday weekend was glorious so can't complain too much.

Well I can heartily recommend salmon fillets served up with mustard cauliflower mash and broccoli... 2 pints of water with it and two squares of v dark chocolate. I feel I am on top of it more this time, though the lbs are coming off soooo slowly!

Weighed in tonight as had an alcohol-fuelled long weekend. A lb down (don't deserve it!). I need to get back into it as I seem to have lost my WOE mojo! Had a picky day food wise too.

I'm definitely getting back in the saddle tomorrow!

woohoo, a full night's sleep. Thank you children

Lily a colleague who saw me reading Gary Taubes Diet Delusion said my diet was no good if it didn't include fruit - I read about the amazing marketing campaign to promote fruit and veg sales on Zoe Harcombe's blog here. When I started LCing I did have an apple most days as I liked apples but after reading about the sugar content I gave them a miss and never even think about eating an apple now. I just remember in my low fat days eating so much fruit to fill up between meals because I was starving! and it made me hungrier - now I know it's because of the sugar.

There's a bit in The Diet Delusion about two guys who went to live for a long period of time (a year I think?) with a people who only ate protein - no fruit or veg. They took all manner of health measurements before they left, and then when they returned. Their health hadn't suffered, in fact their dental health had actually improved - presumably as they hadn't been eating so much sugar! I will look that up and reference it properly later - it's a chapter definitely worth reading. (Not that I'm suggesting we should be protein-only, but it's useful 'ammunition' for those who are adamant that fruit, or even vegetables, are essential for our health)

Just received an email from my healthcare co - including a 7 day healthy eating plan which it claims will boost my metabolism!

The plan contains such delights as:

125ml fat-free fruit-flavoured
yoghurt, and 1 small banana
chopped into the bowl with 5
raw, unsalted cashew nuts

Lentil pie: 1 cup tinned lentils, 30g
grated cheese, 90g sliced potatoes,
sliced onion, 150ml stock. Layer half
potatoes/onions in a greased dish,
top with lentil/cheese mix, cover
with rest of potato mix. Add stock,
cover in foil, bake at 180°C for 1 hr

Turkey sandwich: 2 thin slices
toasted rye bread, 1/3 cup fat-free
cottage cheese, 2 thin slices turkey,
5 sliced olives, lettuce and sliced
cucumber and tomato

A smoothie made with 175ml
fat free vanilla yoghurt, 3/4 cup
frozen mixed berries and 1 small
banana. Sprinkle with 4 almonds

200g lean steak with all the fat
cut off (pan fried, grilled or baked)
with black mushrooms topped
with spinach

Omelette made with 2?3 egg
whites and filled with sautéed
mushrooms, aubergine and
tomatoes, served with 1 medium
slice of toasted rye bread. Use
1tsp olive oil for cooking

A roast: 3 thin slices lean beef
(90g), served with English mustard,
180g sweet potato (roasted with
vegetables like onions, mushrooms,
baby marrows and mixed peppers),
1tsp olive oil used in cooking

If that lot doesn't make your heart sing that you found LCHF I dont know what will!

Had a bit of a slip up last night. We're still in the grip of a wretched cold at the moment. Felt too damned ill to cook last night. DP ordered us a curry to share. I ate half a naan bread, but no rice.

This morning I had egg in a cloud with buttered mushrooms and spinach for breakfast. Absolutely delicious!

Lunch: pork fillet in some form. DP suggested tortillas, I'll work out something different to do with it I think.
