Summer 25 HFLC Boot Camp: Week 2

prettybird · 11/08/2025 00:00

Good Morning Campers or it will be by the time most of you are reading this Wink

Here we are at Week 2 Shock This is my favourite week: the one where people (usually) see the biggest results. But if you haven’t, don’t despair. As long as you follow The Rules, the results will come Grin

It really helps that everyone - from newbies to experienced Boot Campers - is sharing their experiences, both the successes and the slip ups . You are all stars . I haven’t had to get the Big Stick out much as people have usually recognised what happened and worked out strategies for future challenges.

The link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hlJKScntZ78g7eAkaR7hF_uiL0t3WGumIFvHvDAvfJI/edit?usp=

I know some have already put in their weigh-in results. It is always really heartening to see the Week 1 whooshes.

But don't despair if you haven't lost as much as others. Remember, this isn't a competition . We're all here with different startpoints, and everyone loses at a different rate anyway. We all need to KOKO.

That’s also why we encourage taking measurements - usually if the scales aren’t moving, then the inches are! downwards of course Wink

One more week of strict Boot Camp and then we can choose to go on to Boot Canp Light for those of us who want to Smile

The Rules are still the same: you can find them on the OP of the Week 1 thread and also in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

DD1’s bday today so had a very special dinner out - but not very BC friendly! But was bloody gorgeous. Amuse buse of an amazing chorizo reduction thing, starter of Devonshire crab, with wasabi, avocado & fennel; main was tandoori cod loin with pea puree and potato coriander bhaji (bhaji far from ideal so left a little bc no one else wanted) Also far from ideal… I’m afraid to say I had all three courses, which included the chilli chocolate torte albeit VERY mindfully. It was so delicious but I do feel rather huge. Shouldn’t be any more excesses until 5th Sept - and that’s a degustation so heaven help me.

averywittyusername · 14/08/2025 06:44

Not Donna, that meal does sound gorgeous! I made courgette gratin last night (with not so much panache as the french guy) and it was .. ok, a bit too watery. Got more courgettes so I'll try again in a few days.

Glad to hear that others are daily weighers too. I've always felt a bit guilty about my habit but it does keep me accountable, good or bad. If I don't know, I obsess over what the result may be. I put the scales away for a whole 24 hours when i started this bootcamp to concentrate on changing food habits, but I really prefer to know. More impressively for me, I haven't had any alcohol for over a week.

NotDonna · 14/08/2025 06:56

@averywittyusername well done on the no booze! Last night’s dinner may have been lovely but the scales this morning aren’t great. But I’m back on it...

Perimenofullhalt · 14/08/2025 07:16

I fear I may have been deterred by courgettes thanks to a bad marrow experience as a youngster (a marrowing experience Grin) but those little ones are beautiful @prettybird, perhaps I need to have another go.

Well done on a booze free week @averywittyusername, how do you feel? I've only had a booze free few days so far, and I don’t think it's my imagination that I'm sleeping better and waking a bit more refreshed.

Lots of tomatoes to use up today so I think I'll make tomato and basil soup.

Shells · 14/08/2025 07:40

Totally fell off wagon last night as meal out with friends. No low carb options so had a risotto and way too much wine. Feel rubbish this morning, but will get back on it and just see it as a glitch.

prettybird · 14/08/2025 09:05

@venusandmars- dh splurted out some wine when I read out your post Grin (we were enjoying sitting out on the patio in the unusually warm evening Wink - I just had a glass of sparkling water Halo).

@lastchancesalmon- you will get there. There is still plenty of time. Double-check that low carb beer - sometimes they’re not as low as you think. Plus you’re not supposed to be having any alcohol in these first two weeks Hmm After the first two weeks, there’s a good flat bread recipe in the Veggie thread (based on Tom Kerridge’s one) if you’re wanting something naan like.

@NotDonna- meal sounds lovely (and least you went off piste mindfully Wink) but as you know, you’ve seen the results on the scales. This WoE is not very forgiving. Get back on the wagon and drink lots of water Halo

@averywittyusername- maybe try extra cheese next time and/or salt and drain the chopped courgettes in advance of cooking them?

@Perimenofullhalt- they were indeed very pretty. Didn’t take a picture of the salad but it was very thinly sliced (using a veg peeler) green and yellow courgettes (so still with their skins) and a lemon zest and juice olive oil dressing.

@Shells- I won’t get the Big Stick out just yet Wink as you seem to be berating yourself enough. Get back on the wagon and KOKO - and drink lots of water (will help with the after effects of the wine too Wink). If you know where you’re going out to, it helps to plan in advance and have a look at the menus for the best low-carb option. It’s often possible to ask for a substitute - for example, I ask for greens rather than mashed potatoes with a dish at Sarti’s (Glasgow’s best Italian restaurant imho ) - which is a lovely wilted spinach I think and garlic in butter concoction.

lastchancesalmon · 14/08/2025 12:31

Thanks @prettybirdit was alcohol free as well as low carb, not something I drink very often but a good way of removing the curry = beer association and breaking the boredom of constant water.

NotDonna · 14/08/2025 16:54

@lastchancesalmon do you like the ‘herbal’ teas? I adore peppermint & liquorice (weird as I can’t stand the black liquorice stuff). I make a big jug full and let it go cold - if the weather is hot then I add ice and pop in a nice glass, a sprig of fresh mint, maybe a slice of cucumber. There’s so so so many flavours and many are nice cold too. I was alcohol free for a year and these were great. If my mouth is moaning for something sweet they often do the trick too! Also just a big jug of water with either limes/lemons or lots of cucumber makes a big difference to plain water.

lastchancesalmon · 14/08/2025 17:01

@NotDonnathank you for the suggestion I often do drink herbal teas as an alternative but hadn’t thought of making them iced tea in this hot weather. I will certainly give it a try.

Perimenofullhalt · 14/08/2025 19:39

Thanks for the idea of the tea @notdonna I have buttermint teabags that I'd forgotten about but its been hot here lately and it sounds ideal to have iced!

And adding a summer evening photo....

Summer 25 HFLC Boot Camp: Week 2
venusandmars · 15/08/2025 18:31

Friends were going for a Chinese meal - I had somethng else on so won't join them, a blessing since I find eating out at Chinese restaurants the most challenging for this wowe However it did put me in the mood for something similar so I bought crispy duck / pancakes from the supermarket. I only had the duck with cucumber and spring onion, and all the crispy skin. But now I'm making duck soup from the bones / left over meat. Mmmm!

NotDonna · 15/08/2025 19:50

@venusandmarslovely photo - where are you?
Down 1lb and lots of new clothes arrived today where the 12 looked good! So returning the 14’s.
Took the dog out early for an hours walk and also went for a little swim. But too hot to do much today really. Lunch was a salad of chicken, lettuce, cucumber, mangetout, tomatoes, peppers. Dinner will be BBQ’d garlic prawns with lots of BBQ’d veg. I need to up the water a bit though!

venusandmars · 15/08/2025 22:31

@NotDonna nice food, but up the fat as well as the water. Otherwise you start to feel hungry.

I'm in Scotland. On the east coast - which makes it bizzare to see the sun setting, but the northern latitude combined with the slight westward facing curve of our coast...

NotDonna · 15/08/2025 23:15

Yes venus I was thinking that - I did have some BBQ halloumi with dinner too & the chicken was quite fatty but still… I’ve not felt remotely hungry probably because I’m having large portions and it’s so hot! I was very pleased not to succumb to a glass of wine despite DH having a couple of rather large pours! I noticed 👀
Your view is stunning!!

Shells · 16/08/2025 07:20

I've been back on track the last 2 days and finding that I quite like eating more or less the same thing every day. A bit of variation depending what else I'm cooking, but it sort of stops me fixating.

averywittyusername · 16/08/2025 08:04

Just checking in to say I'm feeling fabulous. Feeling full of energy and sharp of mind (IMHO) -it may be due to my delight at seeing the weight literally falling off while eating the most delicious food. Had a salad last night of leaves topped with smoked salmon and 1/2 the contents of an M&S charcuterie pack, topped with olive oil and lemon juice. And I am friends with my scale again. Waa ready to chuck it out the day I started this bootcamp!

prettybird · 16/08/2025 08:07

That’s good news @ShellsSmile

I’m KOKO here. Was rewarded with seeing 11st 11 and3/4lb on the scales yesterday. Back up a wee bit this morning but hopefully can get back down again in time for the weigh-in on Monday. Lots of water today Wink and no snacking Blush

Pork belly joint (on offer in Lidl) for dinner tonight Smile

NotDonna · 16/08/2025 08:08

@Shells theres nothing wrong with that and it’s something I do too - it saves thinking about it too much!

CherryogDog · 16/08/2025 10:35

I'm fully prepared for a bashing with the naughty stick but here goes!
I joined the thread late, haven't had the chance to fully stock up on proper low carb food, but I've been doing a combination of BC light, low carb and smaller portions and I've had a daily weight loss which I'm thrilled about, before adjusting my WOE I was having a daily weight gain.
Shopping today, lots of inspiration on this thread for meal ideas, which I can adapt as a pescatarian who's mainly vegetarian.
As a general rule I eat twice a day, which is when I'm hungry, and only snack on chocolate and crisps, but I've gone cold turkey on them.
Until last night, we went for an Indian, I had the salmon shaslick, so no creamy sauce. When we got home I ate both the little mint chocolate squares they give you afterwards, and crikey did that kick off a craving! Had to fight myself not to go out and buy more. I'll never be someone who can just a have a square of chocolate to satisfy a sweet craving.

venusandmars · 16/08/2025 14:23

@CherryogDog if you're mostly vegetarian then BC lite is possibly OK to keep your protein levels up from nuts and seeds etc. Do you eat eggs and cheese?

CherryogDog · 16/08/2025 16:20

Hi @venusandmars yes I do eat eggs and cheese. I lost shed loads on BC light before, so hoping it works again.

ZiggZagg · 16/08/2025 19:53

Hi everyone! Is it ok if I join? I’ve been losing weight but this WOE has more of a positive effect on my physical and mental health than others, so wanted to rejoin to keep me on track and get ideas! ☺️

NotDonna · 16/08/2025 23:39

👋🏼 welcome back ZiggZagg!
I definitely drank lots today but didn’t think about eating lunch til 4pm! Just a very busy day and totally forgot. Not ideal. Had a quick snack of full fat cottage cheese, raw peppers - didn’t want to eat too much as doing steak for a relatively early dinner. Had quite decent dinner portions of steak with creamy peppercorn sauce, carrots, courgettes, corn on the cob (lots of butter), halloumi and peppers.
