Feb 24 Boot Camp: Week 6, still time to achieve results

prettybird · 11/03/2024 07:47

Here we are at Week 6 already, the one where - ideally - you get beyond the Weeks 3, 4 and 5 doldrums and achieve your objectives before Easter. And if, for whatever reason, you're not, then KOKO,, drink all the water and maybe post what you've been eating so we can see if there is anything you can tweak. We're all here both to support and be supported.

@FinallyHere will be along shortly to post the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness (I’m on my phone at the airport and links from the App seem to cause difficulties for anyone not using the app Confused). It truly is fabulous to see the results coming in Smile

There are a few newbies who have either only started recently or only recently de-lurked. Welcome Flowers. We're a friendly bunch and as long as you follow the Rules you'll see the Results And if you're not seeing the results that you'd like, then post what you've been eating on here and ask for some advice.

Remember, as with any healthy diet, weight loss will stabilise (after the initial whoosh) at an average of 1-2lb a week.

There are only three weeks left of this Boot Camp, so let’s make a concerted effort to finish with a flourish Smile

Challenge for this week is to do something nice for yourself Flowers Because you are worth it Smile. So, whether it’s taking time to put a facemask on, doing your nails, booking a hair appointment or spending some time reading a book or magazine, take time for you FlowersSmile I’ve got a face mask with me to put on in the plane Grin (and some more in my suitcase for while we’re there and on the way back)

Even though I’m away, I’ll still be checking in regularly and my Big Stick has been packed Grin

I hear you @TheOnlyMrsW . Struggling for motivation here too but I'm ploughing on. Just had some funny looks eating pepperami on the train before 9am but I'm hungry and it's going to be a long day. Bloody hate trekking to Birmingham!

Small gain for me this week which is no surprise after my carby escapades last week, but hopefully it will be off as quickly as it went on. I'm out for lunch today in a bloody pizza place (not my choice and not able to influence unfortunately) but they do have a couple of salads on the menu so I'm planning to have one of those. I know I'm going to be jealous of all the lovely pizza though so need to focus on how much better I'll feel after the salad

PurpleWhirple · 13/03/2024 09:05

Sloppy Joe peppers here last night. Always a hit with the family. I just didn't have potato wedges and added a big blob of mayonnaise to my salad

I think I shared the recipe last bootcamp but here it is again just in case useful.

realfood.tesco.com/recipes/sloppy-joe-stuffed-peppers-with-wedges.html

I really like Tesco's recipes, they are often low fat but easily adaptable for bootcamp in lots of cases. I used fatty pork mince instead of lean turkey here.

TheOnlyMrsW · 13/03/2024 09:58

@PurpleWhirple never been a fan of Birmingham and New Street confuses me every time I go! Those sloppy joe peppers sound lovely.

Better day food wise yesterday, stuck to the plan of leftover lamb shoulder with peppers, spinach, onions and a tin of chopped tomatoes, blob of harissa and roast courgette & cauliflower. Plenty leftover for today's lunch, I also have two cooked chicken thighs in the fridge that I need to do something with so need to have a think. Not enough herbal tea yesterday - it's been so cold this week that I've retreated to the attic to work and I cba trekking down two flights of stairs to refresh my cup - must do better today!

Gig tomorrow night with DD, thankfully she's opted to eat at home first so I don't have to navigate rubbish food which are the only options nearby.............

Still so grey and dreary, I'm so fed up of not seeing the sun and it being wet - had a couple of dry days last week where the washing went out but other than that it seems to have been wet since way before Christmas, starting to absolutely dread festival season if it doesn't improve soon!!!

catwithflowers · 13/03/2024 18:35

Dinner tonight is pork and courgette burgers in romaine lettuce wraps with cucumber and a dipping sauce with soy, fish sauce, garlic and chilli. To tell the truth I'm not at all hungry and am only eating dinner because my (low carbing) husband would protest!

I'm missing a crunchy texture very much so today I bought some seaweed thins which are ultra low carb but also (because we have family to stay over for the next few days and a cheese board will definitely make an appearance) a pack of Ryvita multi grain crisp bread. Not at all Bootcamp I know but 5.8g carb per slice and they are huge. So one slice will be a vehicle for all my cheese. Hoping I won't be hit with the stick 😬

prettybird · 13/03/2024 21:23

Sorry I've not been around much to wield the Big Stick. There has been a problem with the WiFi in our room in the hotel Hmm which had meant that I've chewed through my normal data allowance Sad. They say they've fixed it and even gave me a basket of fruit and half a bottle of wine as an apology for the problems Hmm but the problem still isn't fixed Angry

Now on an esim that I've had to purchase so that I can access data when we're out and about as I've even gone beyond my £10 safety buffer Shock - but fortunately my data allowance renews tomorrow Smile

Had a lovely steak sandwich tonight. 3 strips of steak, onions and mushrooms fried with garlic powder and celery salt, the Waitrose low carb bread, lettuce, tomatoes and mayonnaise. So yum! I was really hungry as I went out to lunch today with a friend. She had ham and cheese toasties with salad and crisps while I only had tea and 2 seeded crackers with peanut butter!

Goodiewhemper · 14/03/2024 06:12

Good morning everyone. I have been missing the past few weeks. We have had a family bereavement and my daughter has been having a challenging time. I have been trying to keep to BC and mostly succeeding but there have been a few fuckits. I just weighed in and have had a wee loss since my last weigh in but am still 3kg away from my BC target. I really need to refocus over the next few weeks so I don't slip.

One thing I really need to work on is cardio or HIIT. I usually get my 10,000 steps in but just don't have time for the gym for more intense movement. I also have a rotator cuff problem which can be quite painful. I have been doing Gillian Michaels 10 minute beginner HIIT on YouTube every other day over the past week or so and so far so good but would love other recommendations that I can do online and are sufficiently challenging.

Have a great day everyone.

EndlesslyDistracted · 14/03/2024 06:55

Morning, I'm struggling too, with my evening meals. I don't eat breakfast and normally have a substantial salad with meat/fish/cheese and mayo for lunch. But when it comes to evening meals I really don't fancy another helping of meat or fish, it feels too much twice in a day and the high fat aspect feels too much as well by then. So I am ending up just snacking on low-ish carb crackers and cheese, nuts etc and a green smoothie but too much in the way of the crackers and stuff. I haven't cooked or eaten a proper main meal all week this week. I keep reading everyone else's meals and going "no, don't fancy that, too rich". Another thing that isn't helping is that I cracked open a rotten egg last week and haven't been able to face another one since apart from for making mayo. I'm not particularly asking for suggestions here, this is my problem to solve but writing it down helps work through it.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 14/03/2024 10:49

Jumping on to shout my shit - hi everyone, well done to those doing well, Flowers for anyone feeling unwell/generally rubbish and KOKO to anyone struggling. Oh and drink all the water.

Can you tell I'm behind with the thread? Grin

Doing ok here, back to my all time low this morning after Saturday's wine and Sunday's Yorkshire pudding incident. Work is bonkers, early starts, no lunch and late finishes have helped I think, but I'm ready for a break of some kind as I'm so tired.

I've used my slow cooker every day this week so that has helped keep the Can't Be Arseds away when it comes to the evening. Got a chicken curry for tonight, beef stroganoff, spag Bol and chicken in tomatoes have also featured. Tomorrow it's carnitas from the recipe thread. I hate having to do all the prep in the morning but am always so grateful at teatime.

Have a good day everyone Smile

catwithflowers · 14/03/2024 10:58

@AllTheBlackCoffee Ooh well done! 🎉. Prep really is the answer isn't it. I'm in awe of all of you who work full time and still manage to do this!

I'm out for an Indian meal tonight but have scanned the menu and can choose sensible options. No rice and possibly the tiniest bit of naan might pass my lips but apart from that it will be chicken, lamb and salad.

I'm baking at the minute for a party in a few week's time. Blueberry muffins in the oven as I type. Fortunately I don't have a particularly sweet tooth so will cool them down and put them straight into the freezer before my husband sees them 😂

EndlesslyDistracted · 14/03/2024 11:29

Slow cooking might be a good idea here thinking about it, if I have put something on in the morning that's the decision part made early. We don't have a separate slow cooker but have a slow oven so I could prep into a dish the night before when I do my packed lunch and put it in the fridge overnight.

Whicker · 14/03/2024 12:59

Exciting almost NSV today. I can almost transfer a ring from my fourth finger to my middle finger. If it were a different style of ring it would definitely transfer. Hurrah for thinner fingers!

TheBorderBinLiner · 14/03/2024 13:27

Headspace victory - sinned against low carb yesterday, so was feeling a bit 'fuck it' today as well.... So I reminded myself how much I want to be thinner than my Sil (she has no idea, this competition is unfairly but motivatingly only in my head). Then I plugged all my sins into MFP to discover it wasn't horrific, it was actually pretty normal. So feel re-energized and looking forward to tonight's leftovers minus the naan and being back in the zone.

Almahart · 14/03/2024 21:20

Koko here. Brunch of cauliflower cheese, snack of two hard boiled eggs and a prawn laksa for dinner. Lots of water.

prettybird · 15/03/2024 09:08

Well done @Appalonia with your lunch out with your friend on Wednesday.

Sorry to hear about the family bereavement @Goodiewhemper Hope your dd is having a little less of a challenging time. I've done both Gillian Michaels The Shred and Ripped DVDs in the past but am currently doing the Natural Health Sherpa (think that's his name) exercise programme which is about 10 minutes, 3 times a week plus an optional 5 minute burnout at the end. I paid something like $30 for it (also gives access to diet stuff which is pretty much HFLC).

@catwithflowers - I know what you mean about missing crunch. For future reference and to avoid the Big Stick Wink, stock up on some of the properly low carb seed crackers that have been recommended on these threads (iirc, Waitrose do sone good ones). Or even make your own Grin

catwithflowers · 15/03/2024 12:37

@prettybird Thanks for the threat of the stick 😂. I've just bought this from Holland and Barrett. Not exactly cheap at £4 per loaf but will last the two of us a week in the freezer. And the best thing is it actually tastes like bread 🎉🎉🎉

Just having two slices with avocado for lunch

prettybird · 15/03/2024 12:48

@EndlesslyDistracted - what about something like a flattened and griddled turkey steak. Rub some olive oil over it to stop it sticking and serve with shocked sprout, baby sweet corn or cauliflower (roasted if you don't fancy shoogled in butter)

Lamb kebabs marinaded in olive oil and ras-al-hanout and served with either tzatziki or FF Greek Yougurt with some chopped/crushed garlic though are another light but easy option.

Hope you've managed to get beyond your understandable issue with eggs Shock

OP posts:
prettybird · 15/03/2024 12:59

@Whicker - that's not an "almost" NSV, your ring being looser. I'd count that as a real NSV Grin

I do like that sort of food and we do make lamb kebabs with tzatziki etc every now and then (although DD hates lamb). The problem really is that I just don't fancy anything enough to be bothered with cooking it at the moment, I just get home from work feeling meh, I have really lost my enjoyment of food a bit, I think partly because I don't get ravenous like I used to pre BC. It doesn't help that I have a fussy family TBH or that I go out a lot in the evenings (10+ years of ferrying the DCs to every sport and hobby imaginable have left me with a strange compulsion to go out somewhere every evening, whether that is the gym, a class, a walk, the allotment in summer, the pub or just a walk). So cooking is taking a bit of a back seat.

Anyway, yesterday we had a lot of cooked chicken leftover so I put it in a low oven with some vegetables and gravy for a few hours and that was nice when I got back from the gym, today I put a spag bol mix in the low oven before work, so those are good steps in the right direction.

BIWI · 15/03/2024 13:50

Really quick dinner idea:

Put salmon fillet(s)in a bowl, season, drizzle with olive oil and a squeeze of lemon. Cover, then microwave* on high for 2 minutes (probably a bit longer if you’re cooking more than one). Serve with a handful of leaves from a bag of salad. Or some frozen veg of your choice, which you could also cook in the microwave.

*if no microwave, wrap salmon in foil, along with seasonings/oil/lemon, and bake for 15 mins.

EndlesslyDistracted · 15/03/2024 14:04

Yes, we do that one sometimes too, or poach the salmon on the hob (we don't have a microwave in the kitchen).

Whicker · 16/03/2024 07:34

2lbs off since last weekend. 2.4lbs to go to meet my Easter target. This feels like it really could be within reach. I won’t pretend I’m not massively looking forward to an Easter egg though.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 16/03/2024 08:13

Morning everyone, another new low on the scales this morning. Movement is so slow but I just keep going - what's the alternative? Now as almost 13 lbs for the year. Would love to crack a stone by Easter but if not, I'll KOKO and get there eventually.

I don't know what's changed but this time feels different. Normally by now I'd be frustrated and ready to jack it in but I can honestly say I'm just plodding on this time and the scales are dropping millimetre by millimetre. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to lose 2lb+ a week but I have accepted that's just not the way my body works.

A day of shorting stuff awaits. We've got a skip on the drive that's going back next week so I want to use as much of it as I possibly can. Will be a windows open, beds stripped, towels washed kinda day here.

Tonight we're trying carnitas from the recipe thread. I've wanted to give this a go for so long so I'm really looking forward to it. Will be served with salad and coleslaw.

catwithflowers · 16/03/2024 09:57

6lbs down since 12th Feb. That's mostly sticking to plan (apart from some wine and a few G&Ts 😬). We go on holiday in 2 weeks so I'm hoping for another couple of lbs before then 🙏🏻

Made a delicious aubergine involtini last night. Very cheesy and low carb
