Jan '24 Dry Bootcamp - our last week

BIWI · 22/01/2024 10:49

Morning all. Hope Storm Isha didn't do any/too much damage.

Here's the spreadsheet - hopefully fixed now!

Although this started out as a 4-week challenge, I realise of course, that January is the never-ending month, so we'll continue right to the bitter end, which will be a week on Wednesday!

Don't panic though - I will be starting another one for February, only this time it doesn't have to be a dry one.

I'll start the next one 'afresh' so it gives other people a chance to join us, which means that (if you want to) the first two weeks will be the usual strict Bootcamp. If you're happy on Bootcamp Light, or you simply want to be able to have a drink (!), then it's entirely up to you.

So thinking about our last ten days - what do you realistically want to be able to achieve? I'm still hoping to get the scales to start with 9 rather than 10, but that does mean I'm going to have to be super strict, as that leaves me with 3.25 lbs to lose. I have two meals out before the end of the month, but they're both in places I know I can make good choices, and I'm finding it easier to forgo the alcohol too, so I'm not too worried about those.

For me, then, it's a weight challenge - but it doesn't have to be weight. It could be a specific item of clothing (thinking about those of us who have holidays coming up), or your measurements, or anything else that you think you can work towards over the next ten days.

My food diary in the fitbit app has 2 cals per espresso down for coffee

NotDonna · 25/01/2024 14:41

@RooRooCooChoo Im also going skiing on Sunday - France all inclusive (gorgeous French food) so will need to ensure I’m not loosening the Velcro waist tabs on my salopettes as the week progresses!

I’ve just been to Wagamama (soul bowl didn’t look tooooo bad as lots of salad and avoided the ‘caramelised onion’ option but expect the chilli glaze on the salmon had sugar). But a number of the black / green / fruit teas had calories. Unbelievable!!!

RooRooCooChoo · 25/01/2024 14:55

@NotDonna I'm off to Italy where, due to the proximity to Austria, the choice between schnitzel and pasta is going to be a daily struggle. Not to mention the hot chocolate with grappa... To the extent that I've decided to let myself indulge. I can only get a way for 4 days, so surely can't do THAT much damage, right?

Good luck with yours!

pinknsparkly · 25/01/2024 18:34

Hi all, I've been reading the posts but nof contributing due to really struggling with motivation. Yesterday I decided to start recording what I eat in MyFitnessPal. Not with the aim of calorie counting, more to get me thinking about everything I eat again. It seems to have done the trick and I'm back in the game! Hopefully for the long term this time.

There's also been chat of people recording weights daily. Is there an android app similar to HappyScale that anyone can recommend?

Thesoundofmusic23 · 25/01/2024 19:11

Beginning to feel amazing - but also starting to fancy something sweet 🫣. Enjoying a Lucky Saint right now which is delicious and quenching the thirst. We are away this weekend so already planning things that are compliant but treaty. Am tantalisingly close to loosing a stone so don’t want to loose momentum. Definitely helps having this group for keeping us all on course, thanks 🙏

blackteaplease · 25/01/2024 19:44

@pinknsparkly you can log weight in myfitnesspal.

@Thesoundofmusic23 just be careful with the Lucky Saint - it tastes really lovely, and it is low alcohol (not no alcohol though), but it is quite carby. 11.55g carbs per 330ml.

Well done @RooRooCooChoo bet that feels great. I am skiing this weekend for first time this year and sadly wearing new larger size ski trousers because despite successes this BC I am still a long way to go to fit in my lovely ski trousers. Have bought cheap ones (as won’t wear them again I hope) in the same lipstick pink as the ones I love. Makes me feel less compromised. Happy skiing.
Successfully navigated a few potential obstacles yesterday. Was working from my ‘home’ office to catch my evening flight but as I am normally in a project office a colleague I am close to asked me to have lunch with them. That means a coffee and a sandwich. I was struggling to find anywhere in the area that had seating and a salad option researching in line before. So we had a lovely walk picked up a salad from Pret and ate in the office social area instead. Better than a noisy carby cafe too. Dinner was 2 delicious snack pots bought at the airport resulting in 2 boiled eggs smoked salmon and spinach. I know I was lucky yesterday because planning was incomplete and it could have gone pretty wrong.
Glad to see clarification on coffee calories bought l had a macdonalds black coffee last weekend and noted 26 calories. Worried that it may have an odd ingredient but sounds like coffee is not zero. ☹️

Still got some catching up but will do after I post.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 26/01/2024 07:24

The scales are moving again - 2.5lb since Monday!!!! No idea what the last few weeks were about, it's been so frustrating but I'm glad I stuck with it. Just hoping it sticks now til Monday.

PurpleWhirple · 26/01/2024 09:48

Hi all, haven't had time to post this week as work has been crazy and been travelling a lot. Have managed to stick to BC compliant food, although a lot of it has been very disappointing and bland. When you're focused on finding low carb options on the go it really drives home how much the food offerings you can buy ready to eat are just stuffed full of cheap carbs

Sainsburys meal deal was particularly awful and I ended up having to buy a yo sushi poke bowl and just leave the rice, which was over 50% of the dish. Tesco not great either, got a very bland egg and ham salad and left the new potatoes. Am pleased with myself for sticking with it, although the scales have barely moved. Typical week 4 for me. I'm away for the weekend and there will be alcohol so dry Jan ends for me this weekend, hopefully I can maintain sensible choices for the next 2 nights. Am going to bundobust tomorrow which will be very carby (vegetarian) so I plan to study the menu in advance and then not look at it when I actually sit down to eat.

Am only just catching up on the thread todya and bloody love how supportive it is and how we all give each other a boost (and much needed food ideas) when needed. Have a great weekend campers, I'll check in on Monday .

BIWI · 26/01/2024 10:09

Hmm. Something has gone wrong with the spreadsheet! We're all out of order, and I definitely didn't gain 40lbs in week 2! Shock

We need help @FinallyHere!

hello lovely people, looks as if something has gone awry in the engine room.

Please very kindly do not make any changes to the spreadsheet of fabulousness which we have a look under the bonnet. many thanks

poorbuthappy · 26/01/2024 10:57

To echo everyone else's lunch time dilemmas ...I found myself in Asda yesterday buying iceberg lettuce bag, cheese meat and mayo. 😂
I have completely lost my appetite so the fact it was a weird thrown together lunch did not phase me at all. It was just food I needed for fuel. It's an odd mindset

FinallyHere · 26/01/2024 11:14

Hello lovely bootcampers, the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness has had its ears and whiskers trimmed and is (as far as I can tell) back in business, freshly A-Z'ed, too

There may be updates which have been lost, I have caught the ones I could see but know there are others. Ive kept everything so if your records are wrong, please let me know with an @here or by DM if you prefer. As you were..

Just to echo and support @FinallyHere - please, please, please only use the spreadsheet to add your weight.

Don't try and add anything else or do anything else with the data.

Another one catching up on a few days posts.

@Metabolicallycomplicated well done for responding to your MIL. I have a SIL who is very opinionated (but poorly read) and I used to be very reluctant to say anything. I did pluck up courage though and now when she raises the topic again I'm just a very polite grey rock "Thanks. We've had this conversation before." Smile and change the subject.

I bought the bluetooth headphone band recommended but it seems that my ears are in the wrong place and I can get the earphones onto both ears at once. I'll have another look before sending it back or getting my ears transplanted

Was out on Wednesday and with the exception of one cocktail I stuck to plan, choosing a rillette of crab, avocado, cucumber, capers, shallots radish and mayonnaise. Followed by chargrilled chicken breast, french beans, endive, lettuce, topped with hazelnuts, with a tarragon & caper dressing.

Yesterday was haggis etc, best not to say anymore about that, except that I was driving so drank only fizzy water.

Today I've got leeks and halloumi but I can't find the recipe on the veg recipe thread, could anyone point me in the right direction? tia

venusandmars · 26/01/2024 12:42

@RooRooCooChoo that must feel great to fit into your ski outfit. On letting yourself indulge... I know that the real killer for me is the combination of high fat AND lots of carb AND alcohol, so maybe be mindful even when goining 'off piste' in terms of this woe. For example relaxing your eating while you're in the ski resort but asking yourself whether you also need to give in at the airport and have the full burger, bun and chips.

Not trying to lecture, hopefully you'll get what I mean.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 26/01/2024 13:10

On my headband you can manoeuvre the headphones around to fit @venusandmars just need to give them a bit of a wiggle. Maybe give that a try?

It appears to often be the case that the Whoosh Fairy arrives and removes up to 3lbs of fat at a time!

RooRooCooChoo · 26/01/2024 13:28

@venusandmars You're absolutely right. The killer is eating all the BC foods PLUS carbs. It did occur to me that if I were in France I might do better as fondue and raclette are essentially LC. Nevertheless, your words are well noted. For now. Let's see if my best self can assert itself in the next few days. This is the first time we're going away without the kids, so I'm pretty giddy.

@FinallyHere I'm afraid the spreadsheet is still a bit wonky. I put in my (meagre) loss and it is telling me that I have gained 159lbs this week. Admittedly, it hasn't been my most effective week, but that's taking it a bit too far. 😁

FinallyHere · 26/01/2024 13:37

Thank you for the heads up @RooRooCooChoo I'm out and about on phone only. Shall have a look right away but if it does need my laptop that won't be until later this afternoon.

AIBConsiderate · 26/01/2024 13:40

I am absolutely dripping with lurgy today, I've been trying be productive at home while working and now I accept that I'm an idiot and have retired to bed instead. But at least I've made a moussaka ready to go in the oven and the cheese sauce tastes like such a treat! Back to drinking lots of water and a nap.

FinallyHere · 26/01/2024 13:41

Sorry to read you are not well @AIBConsiderate Hope you feel better soon
